afree15ParticipantMy friend and I arguing between who would win.
UConn’s Women’s basketball team + Brittany Griner
vs
UMass Men’s Basketball Team.
We go to UMass, so thats why I put them, but any similar team would work.
I think it would be a blowout with the men winning, because of the athletecism/height is not even comparable. I can’t even believe he would make such a statement.

NbanflguyParticipantUMass would win for sure. It would not be competitive

JoeWolf1I think you would have to go down to NAIA or Juco Men’s teams to give the women a chance. Any D1 Mens team would destroy them. Griner is a monster in the women’s game, but she’s listed at 6’7” 175, she’d be a skinny small forward in the men’s game.

afree15Participantthank you. the kid is dumb

NbanflguyParticipantI dont think that would even be enough. There are alot of great players in JUCO and NAIA.
I think even men’s highscool teams would still be bigger and stronger and faster. The girls team would probaly be better shooters, but the guys would still be more athletic.

HaleParticipantU-Conn with Griner would beat most HS teams that aren’t powerhouses. I know nothing about NAIA so i can’t comment on that. JUCO usually gets great talent with character issues so I think they would beat down U-Conn too.

JoeWolf1Yeah, you’re probably right. From a purely athletic standpoint (not basketball skills) I could probably go to the gym I play at during peak hours and grab 8 guys over 6′ foot with better athletic ability than a women’s team.

sheltwon3ParticipantI see what you are saying with this but I think even high schools with NBA type prospects would beat they women’s team because there is huge different in height, athleticism and roles from men to women’s ball. Dudes would also have the size advantage. You have guys that are 6’11" that can guard smaller faster players. I think low level high school teams and some average teams would lose but other than that no.

NbanflguyParticipantYeah you could find plenty of tall athletic guys at a random gym. Most girl centers are like 6’2-6’4 i think. Maybe not even that. You could find a 6’4 mens point guard.

HaleParticipantYou can probably find women centers around 6′ or maybe even slightly under.

NbanflguyParticipantYeah i think one good point is that i am almost 5’8 130 some pounds. Always the shortest player during games, but i would have decent size for a Div 1 college girls team. haha

mmmchickenParticipantI don’t think it would be a blowout. I think UMass would prolly win, but give the girls credit.
Griner will post up against the fools from UMass and Maya will drain threes in the faces of all the little punks over therir.
They would absolutely destroy any highschool team and shit on the lower division college teams. WAKE THE FUCK UP!

NbanflguyParticipantWait a sec! How is this even an argument? Umass went 7-9 in the atlantic 10 and took a good Temple team to OT before losing. They have a 7’1 center and a 18 ppg scorer. They would destroy Uconn. Maya moore is a great player, but she couldnt beat a D1 mens team by herself. Part of the reason Griner is so good is cuz she is a good 4 or 5 inches taller then her opponents. She would not have that advantage against UMass.

JoeWolf1I always cite this article when talking about men’s and womens’ basketball. I read it years ago and I think it pertains here if anyone wants to read it. Many D-1 women’s teams scrimmage against college guys on campus who played high school ball, and are familiar with organized basketball, but didn’t go on to college. They aren’t allowed to play above the rim or use physicality when competing with the womens team. ( I totally understand this because it would be a poor move if a player got hurt during a scrimmage against dudes) but even these guys playing all out could hang with a womens team.
Here is the article, it was in a SI 99′

Malik-UniversalParticipantis this even a question???????
UMass mens would destroy them….
first compare the height of all the men to the girls
then the athelism, then the skills
it would be a blowout by like 60+
i know it sounds mean or i dont know what im talkin bout… think about it
most girl players are what… bout 5’8
the average men college player is about 6’5”
its not even close…. how can u compare those two… ur friend clearly doesnt know his bball

0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/22/2011 - 4:49pm #512649
NbanflguyParticipantYeah exactly. When i saw this, i just assumed that Umass was some 1 win team in the summit league or something. They were 7-9 in the atlantic 10 and beat a very solid 20 win Rhode Island team twice, and took temple to OT.
They have a 18 ppg scorer. Who originaly played in the ACC (Wake)
9 players 6’7 or taller
8 Players 200 pounds or more.
13.3 Offensive Rebounds per game against D1 Men. Tied for 27 In D1 Men’s bball.
