Wolves/Gasol?

Gasol's suitors

11:21AM ET

Pau Gasol | Lakers

UPDATE: Sam Amick of Sports Illustrated offered this Saturday: "Sources say Minnesota general manager David Kahn is still attempting to land Gasol, and that push is likely to continue all the way until the deadline. Houston general manager Daryl Morey remains equally enamored with the player he thought he landed in the vetoed three-team deal with the Lakers and New Orleans on Dec. 8, but the Rockets' love of point guard Kyle Lowry (who the Lakers would also love) has likely ended any possibilities there."

---

While no deal is imminent and the Lakers aren't just going to give him up, the overarching perception is the Lakers view Pau Gasol as a trade chip -- one they could use to plug a few gaping holes on the roster.

It's a topic ESPN's John Hollinger wrote about in a Feb. 22 PER Diem.

And Hollinger noted the Rockets, who almost landed Gasol in the nixed Chris Paul deal, and Pacers as potential fits for Gasol.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why, Minnesota, why?! Why right when you are on the verge of beginning to be good, would you gut a promising core for someone on the bottom end of their prime and declining, in a position you don't even need?! Wolves fans would riot if this deal were done. STOP IT KAHN kthxbai
Gawd.. Please don't kahn.. I
Gawd.. Please don't kahn.. I agree with you FireKahn (subtle name by the way..) if Minnesota pulls a trade that doesn't involve them receiving a SG my head will explode... I'm still nauseous from remembering that of all the SG's that were available over summer we only got Barea, he's great, but he's not an answer at all...
Yeah...
Kahn is delusional...I don't know why he won't do anything about the gaping, mile-wide hole at the SG. Johnson is a bust- he should seriously be sent to the D league. Or, he's horribly out of position. Either way, it's time to end the Wes Johnson experiment, he's not a good fit in Minny. The only trade they should *maybe* do with the lakers was that one they offered- Beasley for a first rounder; but even then, the lakers turned it down. Maybe offer some combo of Johnson, Beasley, and Randolph to the Sixers for ET? He really needs a change of scenery.
What if teams dont want to
What if teams dont want to trade their shooting guards to Minnesota? Everybody knows the Twolves a good SG away from being really scary, and what SGs are on the market really? Do we have players those teams want? Do the Salaries match up? Ask these questions before simply judging David Kahn.
Adding Gasol would be interesting. If we give up Dwill, I would pause and maybe question it since he has been playing really well lately, but Gasol is still an elite NBA player and will be a really good one for another 5 years (not elite but still effective).
Actually Gasol is playing
Actually Gasol is playing pretty much his same game. He's simply having to split more touches now with Bynum and is having to play further away from the basket thus shooting more jumpers. A move to Minnesota would actually be pretty good for him given Love's love for shooting the long ball. Not to mention he happens to be good friends and a terrific mentor to a certain up and coming young Spanish PG that plays for Minny.
I love Gasol - when he's on
I love Gasol - when he's on he's a matchup nightmare on both sides of the court, but good god at his salary is he in no way worth D-Will at this point, especially at the cost of stunting Pek's growth. Of course, I'd actually bet a ton of money this would be a 3-way with Houston to get Kevin Martin and some depth, at which point we're really on a different topic, no?
