ropeParticipantThe WBNA is in the middle of their Finals? With all due respect, it is amazing that it is almost a secret. I know the league has a really low profile, but the really get no coverage whatsoever.

TimberTrollParticipantHere in Minnesota I was disapointed that the Conference Finals versus Phoenix the first and third games were only broadcasted on NBATV.

ProudGrandpaParticipantI think a tiny bit of WNBA coverage would be a nice break from the Ray Rice drama we’re about to be inundated with.

ropeParticipantI used to go with my daughters to watch the Shock when they were in Detroit. The games were good, but the crowds were dwarfed by the size of the Palace. Really, smaller venues in smaller towns might be the ticket, but I still don’t see that changing the coverage. It really is somewhere on par with the coverage of minor league baseball.

doubledribblerParticipantI get what the OP is saying. The sport doesn’t get any coverage. I don’t hear about baseball much unless some guy does something ridiculously hard or teams get into a fight. We can thank Disney/ESPN for a huge chunk of that. All stories basically revolve around LeBron, some college guy Skip Bayless falls in love with that most pros don’t care for, with a little Tiger Woods mixed in. You get the occassional big story that becomes the non-stop focus or they try to create a story out of nothing. I can’t watch the stuff anymore. I would love to hear coverage about teams that I’m not even fans of.

Rip255Its cos womens basketball sucks in comparison to mens basketball.
Its great that they have a league, but the lack of interest is due to a lack of exciting action on the court.
At least sports like women’s tennis closely resemble the entertainment level of the male equivalent.

dcaseParticipantWhy does women’s basketball suck compared to men’s basketball? I understand that the NBA is much more popular than the WNBA. This is due in part to the coverage that many people have already discussed, better marketing, and the fact that men’s professional basketball has been around for much longer. However, from a true basketball sense I would disagree with your comment about a lack of exciting action. Yeah, there isn’t the above the rim action that is seen in the NBA, but there is really solid basketball being played in every other facet of the game. Some could argue there are certain aspects of the WNBA that are played at a better level than many teams in the NBA….such as mid range shooting and the lost concept of team basketball (i.e. making the extra pass to get a better shot and less isolation). The main exception for this in the NBA would be the Spurs. Think about how impressive the Spurs looked from a team standpoint in the finals this past year and how exciting it was to watch. There are a lot of similarities seen in many WNBA games…..they just aren’t televised and marketed to highlight this. Aside from dunking what does the WNBA lack on the court when it comes to the game of basketball?

Memphis MadnessParticipantYep, you can’t watch the thing.
I would rather watch the WNBA playoffs/Finals than the NFL regular season. Especially since I had Wes Welker and Jason Whitten on my team for Week 1.
NFL is being shoved down my throat. But I would rather watch ANY type of basketball, NHL hockey, and even golf (great US Open down the stretch).
I would even rather watch a WNBA draft than the NFL.
Maybe they should have the WNBA during the regular basketball season instead of in the summer.
They could do WNBA-NBA double headers.
If they change their season and do it as a typical fall to spring league maybe they can do a gimmick like only playing once a week or something.
They could start their season around Christmas and play the majority of their season after the football season has ended.
Let basketball DOMINATE the schedule after the Super Bowl with the NBA, WNBA, and college.
Another thing they could try then would be to have the WNBA All Star Game during the NBA All-Star Weekend. Maybe put the WNBA game on Saturday, or even make Sunday a double header with the WNBA All Star Game first.
Maybe even have a minor league WNBA. Each WNBA team has a minor league team in smaller cities and towns that plays in the summer with a championship finals in October or November (before the WNBA regular season starts).
Looks like there are 12 WNBA teams. That sounds about right. I wouldn’t expand that, just add minor league WNBA teams that are affiliated with each WNBA team.
The NBA does a GREAT job with the major league but a bad job with the D League and WNBA.

ProudGrandpaParticipantLeroy, sorry to burst your bubble, but a large portion of those "honey dips" are more interested into dipping into each other’s honey than letting you have a taste, ya dig?
