It’s about time. While he has never been considered a superstar, Ellis has been a model of a consistent scorer over his ten-year career. Except for his rookie season, he has averaged at least 16.5 points every year.

He has the highest career scoring average (19.4 points per game) of any player who has never been an All-Star.

Ellis, who is averaging 20.7 points, 4.8 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.6 steals while shooting a respectable 46.0 percent from the floor in his second year with the Mavericks, is generating some hype…

He has played for three teams in his career: the Golden State Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks and now the Mavs. For a brief time, before Stephen Curry’s arrival, he was the Warriors’ best player. He was the Bucks’ No. 1 scoring option in both seasons he was in Milwaukee, and now he is arguably the go-to guy in Dallas. His history as a deserving player who has been snubbed has to be part of his case now.

It must be mentioned that the talent pool of guards in the western conference is bottomless. There are so many deserving guards—it’s just silly.

So, it’s fair to say that as well as Ellis has played, he will have quite a difficult time earning a trip to New York.

Also, keep in mind that if Ellis is selected, he will certainly not be a starter. That seems obvious, but it’s critical to stay grounded in making his case.

Ellis’ best chance to be an All-Star this season is through the coaches’ vote. While he will receive a solid amount of fan votes, he will get beat out rather easily by more established superstars in this portion of the voting.

Ellis will have to rely on his status as a historically deserving player. In a conference where Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul and possibly even Damian Lillard, Tony Parker will be on the bench, Ellis will have a tough time actually being selected.

But in my mind, he still deserves a selection. That hasn’t ever changed.

that was clearly a travel, amazing shot, but still walked, not ripping Ellis, just saying refs missed an easy one.

I view Monta Ellis not being named an All-Star in 2010 as possibly the biggest snub I have ever seen for as long as I have been following the NBA. Averaged 25 ppg for the Warriors and they gave the last spot to the old beaten up Jason Kidd. Kidd was still a solid player in his later years for the Mavs, but I will never agree with the fact that he was a better player than Monta Ellis in 2010.

It’s going to be hard for him to make it in the West but he certainly has a pretty good chance. Right now if I had to choose 5 guards in the West I’d go with Curry and Harden as starters. With Paul, Lillard and Klay Thompson off the bench. Ellis, Parker and Kobe would just miss the cut.

A lot will depend on how the voting goes, a player like Kobe will get a huge public vote and if he is leading the NBA in scoring he deserves to be in, likewise CP3 will get a load of public votes so Ellis gets in on the coaches’ choice if he does get in I’d assume.

Personally I’d say his weight of scoring since 2006 should be recognised perhaps more so than guys in 3rd or 4th years having a couple of big seasons. Also he has played virtually full seasons in recent years so we cannot say injuries have ruled him out.

He is a full 1ppg higher than the similarly overlooked Rudy Gay and 2ppg higher than Al Jefferson which shows how consistent Monta has been.

I do wonder sometimes whether the All Star voting also gets broken down into – the no brainers e.g Franchise level players, hot new stars guys who have franchise potential and maybe a legend vote where guys might get one more All Star game if they are still playing to a decent level but not at the level that someone like Monta or Rudy Gay currently is.

So you might have a player like Monta who doesn’t quite fit into the above categories so can get overlooked. Hopefully he’d be the sort of player who the Commissioner would call up if he was overlooked and someone dropped out.

Montae has always been my favorite player, His supreme confidence in his game and will battle anyone on the court. He took some heat when he said the only differnece between the two is rings

Ive modelled my game after Monta Ellis and Russell Westbrook. Being an Ellis fan for so long it is outrageous how disrespected he is. He beat the Toronto Raptors in the game where Derozan was injured and helped completely shutdown Demar before gis injury. His defence is underrated and albeit known as a selfish player he is completely team oriented and selfless. I want the Mavs to make it out of the West they really deserve it this year cant cheer for them to win it all with the Raps as legit contenders but I really like thier team.

Monta is playing some great basketball and is arguably the best second option in the league right now. I dont consider Bosh or Wade as a 1st or 2nd option its more like two 1st options. Same with Durant and Westbrook, Paul and Griffin, or Lowry and Derozan.

To me guys like Klay Thompson, Brad Beal, Damien Lillard are legit second options.

I hope Ellis makes gets selected but he will defenitely be competing for the position. Even with GSW on top of the NBA right now I still believe Ellis deserves a selection ahead of him just due to the fact that he has been ripped off so many times for that position. Same goes for other young guys like Klay Thompson lets face it any of them deserve a selection although Lilliard and Thompson are much younger and have alot more time. An allstar appearance goes a long way for a mans pride especially a guy like Ellis who probally still thinks he is the best player in the league and has worked every day and mentally prepared to be that guy for the last 15 years.

Give the guy an appearance. Ellis is the most underrated player of the last decade.
