BleedGreen808ParticipantJonathan Jeanne was diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome a couple weeks ago. That prompted draft sites to remove him from their mock drafts. Now nbadraft.net and DX have him back in their latest mocks. Both have him being drafted by the Spurs with the 59th pick.I’m confused if this is just in case a team takes him on the off chance he could get cleared down the road or if there are actual whispers about a team drafting him in the 2nd round. The initial reports made it sound like this would end his basketball career. However Isaiah Austin who was also diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome was cleared to return to basketball and played overseas this year.

MopgrassParticipantI wish I knew what cleared Austin. What do you have to demonstrate? What doctor cleared him. I’d knock on his door tomorrow. He has great talent. I’d love if he could play. I think teams will wait until he clears to sign him, but drop whispers in his about signing with them later.

BleedGreen808ParticipantThat’s why I was wondering if a team especially in the late 2nd round might draft him. If somehow he ends up cleared you have the rights to a player who had been considered a 1st round talent.I honestly don’t know how Austin got cleared when Marfan Syndrome is genetic and from what I understand there is no cure. The fact that this site and DX put him back in their mocks just piqued my interest.

brodiejayParticipantI work with people with disabilities and know a few people with Marfan Syndrome. The main thing they’d be checking is his heart.
Marfan syndrome affects the body’s connective tissue and can cause pretty serious issues with people’s aorta.
There is medication that may help these days, so my guess is they’d need to at least check out his heart and see if he responds to medication.
I’m not a doctor though, so just my basic understanding. The other important thing to note is that the severity of Marfan Syndrome varies hugely. Some people my have no complications at all and some may have severe challenges.

HobbyOGParticipantI think he’ll go in the 2nd round. Teams draft these "stash"players all the time and they never come over. Might as well take a chance on a guy who wants to play here and could be cleared in a year or two.

nill650ParticipantThey will have an honorary the NBA selects Jonathan Jeanne just like they did for Austin.
He will not likely be able to meet the health standards required by the NBA to play even if he was drafted. So he won’t be imo.
damn shame
