This could have been a team that developed into a Solid 45-50 win team. Now i think they will lose DWill & D12.
Things are not looking good for the Nets, now or in the Future.
1 great scenario could be DWill going to play in Dallas.
| One scenario involving Deron Williams and Dwight Howard could sink two teams. If the Magic elect not to trade Howard -- thus showing their fan base that they did everything in their power to keep him and he still wouldn't stay -- or trade him somewhere besides New Jersey, the Nets would be sunk. Having given up Derrick Favors, two first-round picks and Devin Harris for Williams, the Nets would be devastated if Williams passed up the money for a chance to return home to Dallas ... Throw into the mix that with a couple of moves -- amnestying Brendan Haywood and buying out Lamar Odom -- the Mavs would have room for both Williams and Howard, and this cruel game of musical chairs could bring two franchises to their knees.
The Nets might be screwed, sure, but it still absolutely makes sense to try for a Deron/Dwight core. Avery has to go, but that's neither here nor there. If Deron and Dwight go, this team is barren, but they'll be terrible with a high pick this year, keep Brook, and still have loads of money to entice a big name to play in Brooklyn. It's not ideal, sure, and it certainly isn't as good as a Brook/Favors/Knight/Whoever this year core, but when measured against the Deron/Dwight/Whoever this Year (imagine Gilchrist or Anthony Davis!?), it's a worthwhile gamble.
They just gave up so much for a cloudy future 2 #3 picks & and Former AllStar PG
This team is not really that good at all honestly. This a pretty decent offensive team, but is one that would give up just as many points on defense IMO. Too many players who need the ball to be effective. Maybe this is a fringe playoff team but certaintly not one that would get past the first round of the playoffs.....
See what people fail to see in this scenario(which is what i wanted to happen) is that harris probably would have been traded, and we would be building through the draft, and minor fa signings. This is the patient way of becoming good ieOKC. Instead we followed the trend without thinking about the future we took the high risk high rewards path instead of the low risk high rewards path. Instead of building a team within 3-5 years its going to take about a lot longer as no fa will come to brookyln in that kind of mess expect draft picks.
But the future isn't really neccessarily comprimised. And if it is, then it'll be rebuilt a bit behind schedule through the draft.. just as it was being before.
There is no way that team would have been a 45 or 50 win team. I do agree that if they did not trade for D-Will that they would be better off right now, but if they get Howard then it will be all worth it.
^^^ Your right its not too late to build through the draft(never is) but I was talking as if we were still planning for a nice core going into brookyln...if the nets don't get dwight howard and dwilliams leaves then that plan failed. Instead we if we didnt make the dwill trade we would have had lopez, favors, last years draft pick, this years draft pick and whatever we would have gotten from the harris trade. My approach was preparing a set core for brooklyn instead of starting IN brooklyn.
But your absolutely right its never too late to build through the draft but i was speaking more in terms of having something set in time for the move to brooklyn.
expectation was placed on Billy King and Avery Johnson. You see how Sonics went into Okl with a Young Stud and built through the Draft. The Nets should have done.
If the Mavs can get Howard and Williams they should by far be the favorites to win the title
