Why Would Dwight Howard Go To BK?

First off 2nd teams in NY dont do well, impact wise. See the mets, jets, and islanders.

Second Deron Williams has been exposed. He couldn't even dominate overseas and he's slightly overweight. See T.O. Donovan McNabb

Third the Nets are inexperienced from the ownership all the way down to the player roster.

4th he doesn't make the Nets better than he makes Orlando.

He's 26 now...he wont be taken serious if after this trade he wants another years down the line.

This evidence tells me he wants to be a Laker and he's using the Nets just like Melo did.

Does anyone remember...

...when Dwight Howard was coming out of high school, supposedly he was really religious and virtuous, and then he knocked up some chick during his first season?

Moral: Dwight's just a big kid who doesn't really know what he wants.

Go to LA Already

It really depends what LA has to give up to get him, but I am not even sure if that makes LA the favorites if they land Howard. They are not looking so great and clearly are older than dirt.

Back to your post, I don't get the move to BK either. Although the new owner will be spending a ton of cash to make his players comfortable, ala, Mark Cuban.

The truth is though that

The truth is though that "Brooklyn" could be a very enticing destination for DHoward provided he isn't traded there. It looks more and more like the Magic will hold onto Dwight for this year unless someone blows us away with an offer. In that case Howard will be able to hit the open market this offseason (which is really what he has wanted this whole time).

Provided the Nets continue to stink (which in all probability they will), they should end up with a pretty high pick in the draft and be able to grab a Harrison Barnes or a Jared Sullinger/Thomas Robinson type player. They also have enough money to resign DWill and make a max offer to Dwight and STILL have money left over to round out their roster. They could probably even trade BLopez for a swingman or power forward to complement whomever they draft.

With a lineup like this, Brooklyn would look pretty strong:

PG Deron Williams/Jordan Farmar

SG Marshon Brooks/Anthony Morrow

SF Harrison Barnes/Damion Jones

PF Someone traded for with Brook Lopez

C Dwight Howard/Johan Petro

A major market like NY and big time owner willing to spend would be attractive qualities for sure. There's not going to be that many teams that can straight up sign Dwight in the offseason anyway.

What on earth are you talking

What on earth are you talking about with Melo using the Nets? The Nuggets used the Nets not Melo. Why on earth would Melo want the Knicks to give up more than they had too to get him?

And Deron Williams wasn't amazing over there, but its not like he was bad. He had 19ppg and 6.5apg. He also shot .500 from the floor and .450 from 3.

I wouldn't say DWill has been exposed. And it took him a while to adjust to the European game but once he did he was dominant. His team around him in NJ is awful. He is trying to do too much because he has to in order for them to have any chance of winning. In 2 of his last 4 games he was the best player on the court and carried the Nets to victories. I would still take DWill over any PG in the game not name Chris Paul or Derrick Rose.

So many band wagon jumpers on this board.

Dwight could also end up in Dallas

I'm thinking more and more that Dwight will leave via free agency instead of through a trade. Offers aren't likely to get that much bigger for Orlando. Both LA and Brooklyn are going to need to add additional players to the roster in order to entice Orlando. This whole scenario with Dwight is beginning to look a lot like what happened with Melo last year. Melo's old team (Denver) was in dissarray and need a whole new locker room change especially from a disgrutled star player (Melo). In the end he ended up getting traded to his "dream team" the Knicks. Which would mean that the same scenario would happen here, in other words, eventually LA or Brooklyn would get enough trade assets to get an offer together. Orlando is not liking Brooklyn's main attraction of Brook Lopez (probably because he's not much of a rebounder) LA is reluctant to add both Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum so therefore Orlando is likely to turn down any offer they may receive for Howard. (Bynum alone is just not enough for Howard, because of Bynum's inability to still perform effectively when the competition is keying in on him every time, and the fact that he is injury prone).

With that being said its looking like Dwight will end up in Dallas via free agency. (of course Dallas would Jason Kidd, Shawn Marion and maybe Lamar Odom leave via free agency as well in order to clear for Dwight.)

I don't see the Magic trading

I don't see the Magic trading Dwight because I doubt he will agree to sign an extension wherever he goes. Like a poster above said, he wants to be a free agent and go wherever he wants. I still think that LA is where he truly wants to be. If I were the Lakers I would put myself in a position to get him via trades that still allow them to be competitive this year. Call the Boston Celtics and try to get a deal done that brings KG to the Lakers and sends Bynum to the Celtics therefore creating cap space for the Lakers while giving the Celtics something to build around in Bynum and Rondo.

Then use the cap space to sign Dwight outright this summer.

B/C ITS BROOKLYN

Dwight would want to play alongside an elite point guard, there will be a new arena there, the NY media to supply the attention he craves, along with millions in endorsements. Also the new owner wants to win so he'll do all he can to be competitive.

The Magic keep taking steps back ever since tgey made the finals. True the Nets are horrible but so are the Magic w/o Dwight

As much as it hurts me to

As much as it hurts me to admit it Brooklyn or Texas looks like a likely destination for Dwight. Dallas has been talked about a lot but I feel like Houston is a bit of a dark horse as well. They've been looking for a franchise player for a little while now (tried to trade for Melo last year), and would have a good core to surround Dwight. Kyle Lowry, Kevin Martin, Luis Scola, Marcus Morris, Courtney Lee and Chandler Parsons I'm pretty sure are the only guys definitly under contract for next year (they have alot of team options on the books) and Daryl Morey is a promising young GM.

Didnt Williams put up 50 in a game over seas and have his number retired? That sounds like he dominated...

Don't underestimate the cash

Don't underestimate the cash the Brooklyn stadium is going to bring in. That and a better TV contract as they become more and more associated with New York City will mean the Nets are going to be one of the deeper pocket teams even if their owner didn't have a penny. The Knicks also have plenty of cash, but Dolan will always screw things up, so that is going to be a big problem for that team for decades. I think LA is a more likely destination, but BK is definitely in the running.

Deron Williams is playing with non-starter level NBA talent. He is also playing in a lame-duck arena in front of fans that are going to be all but abandoned next year in the move to Brooklyn. Victories for the Nets just gets them a worse draft pick next year, so I'm not even sure what incentive there is for him to play really hard as winning games is probably not even good for the team.

When I clicked on this thread, I honestly thought Dwight was going to do Burger King commercials.

With all this talk about the

With all this talk about the Lakers and Nets, i think he'll end up riding the season out with the Magic and then fall to the Mavs or Boston, that's my gamble on it all.
