To me he is one of the most overrated players in the draft.
Ok he has size and knows the game but i dont see why that is so appealing to GMs and Teams?
Plenty of other guards have size (tyreke evans and jrue holiday) and have a much better skill set. Rubio has average athleticism and a sub-par jumpshot (slow release and not that consistent). I just dont see him flourishing in a league where most guards are exceptional athletes. Im not saying it couldnt happen but to me it is highly unlikely. To me even the smaller guards (Jonny Flynn and Jennings) are better than him.
All of these guards should be ahead of him in my opinion:
rubio is just rubio and a lot of teams have seen him play in the Olympics and they were bought by that.
i had a dollar for every time someone posted this exact thread.......
read archives for last god knows how many weeks.
will find your answer there.
will summarize it for you though: he almost definitely wont win rookie of the year, but hes more likely to one day win an mvp award than anyone ese in this draft.
from what ive seen of him he has better court vision and passing than these other guys. and if he works at it he can develop a killer jump shot, it will help when his body fully develops, the name value/Hype also play a role in his stock but i think he is deserving of it and will be a good player in the NBA
he's only 18 but he's got the court vision of a veteran pg. that's why teams like him. that's why he's rated high.
a one of a kind tatent
Bigdog, you contradicted yourself in your first sentence. Scouts are looking for true point guards like Rubio who know the game and the nba point guard of the future calls for a tall point guard. Name one other guard in this draft who will IMMIDIATLEY be able to help a team and be a true point guard, something that Rubio will be. Basketball iq and vision are so undervalued in terms of prospects now a days. All people care about is how high someone can jump or what their "upside" is. It doesn't matter how high you can jump if you don't know the game.
Yea Im tired of Austin Daye and Rubio posts. Im not impressed by Rubio, I think Jennings and Flynn are better players than Rubio but can this be the last Rubio topic please???
Good post bigdog_jones,
You are 100% right. He is overrated and is certainly not the best point guard... even with potential.
Posting anything negative on Rubio will result in losing many points, but don't get discouraged. 90% of the people raving on Rubio on this site haven't seen him play a full game. They watch 2 minute highlights of his play and assume he is the next Steve Nash. They fail to admit that Rubio only averaged 2.4 pts and 2.3 turnovers in Euroleague play (better resembles NBA play). They fail to admit that he does not have NBA 3 pt range. They fail to admit that he is not very athletic as is necessary in the ISO NBA league.
I also don't understand people arguing he did so well in the Olympics. He was like the 8th best player on Spain. There are plenty of younger guys in other countries that play equally well.
Here's my formula for Rubio=
Rubio - (youtube)(media) = Late 1st rounder.
Rubio is ahead cause his passing, easy way to get to the rims.
It's all about the fact that he could be the next Steve Nash. (I'm not saying he will or will not be)
THERE IS A CROPPED 4 MINUTE YOUTUBE VIDEO OF HIGHLIGHTS.
Maybe I should make a edit of all my high school highlights.... I could look this awesome too. Plus I'll def put in some dramatic music in the background.
maybe you should...of HIGH SCHOOL highlights. not pro highlights
I'm getting annoyed by your theory. Either way he'd still be the same kid with the same skills and still be able to play in the league. All the High Schoolers play against some garbage talent compared to the NBA while Rubio plays against MEN, NBA type Players, Former NBA Players, and whatnot. I swear, this kid takes so much crap from people the Fact that he can keep going says alot. When Kobe compliments someone shouldn't you at least think he has something. -.-"
I'll try and stop commenting on Rubio post because it's stupid. You guys talk about media and hype is his reason yet you give him more attention by all this posting. The only difference is you are negative while most of the time, Rubio's side usually has better points then just saying the same thing in: No shot, Spanish, Small, and etc. I honestly believe if he was black people would love on him like they did to LeBron. Instead it's 60% for him and 40% against him.
Why is Griffin ahead of other forwards?
your and idot i just thought id say that
The reason people hyped up LeBron was because night in and night out he performed at an extremely high level, even though he was playing against high school talent. James had elite physical tools for an NBA player, even though he was still in high school. Rubio isnt a prodigy like Lebron is, we will all see that. So dont think because Lebron is black that people will believe his hype more than Rubio's. Rubio has flaws in his game that are harder to overcome (strength, shooting, quickness) than Lebron's ("too flashy", inconsistent shooting) so people dont think he will be good
from the highlights he looks great. but a few tips, these are highlights and show none of his negatives. it looks like the guy makes the correct basketball play but most of those passes are deflected or stolen in the nba. i think turnovers will be a problem in the nba for him for a little bit. i saw little of his jumpshot which is suspect at best. overall he is worth any pick except the 1st. his potential is very good. just dont pin this guy as the next anything because he has accomplished nothing except youtube highlight reels. and pgs like johnny flynn and brandon jennings have similar reports, suspect shooting, and look good in highlights. so as of right now i think they are even players with advantage rubio because of height, then jennings and flynn. but i think all 3 could be atleast all stars once or could be backups. they are all potential. curry not included because i think he is a combo guard and wont play pg full time.
His stats are nothing special... even for a 18 year old. Yes he was on Spain's Olympic roster, but Spain wouldn't of accomplished anything less without him.
He is a high risk pick. All his credibility comes from potential and that he has played professionally from a young age.
Few players live up to the potential. Only Lebron lived up to the hype.
He may have a solid NBA future, but he is not worth a top 5 pick. Too risky. I think GMs may take him just to sell tickets though with all the noise about him.
bigdog_jones has right!!I watch Rubio's games in Europe and he is nothing special!!Flynn, Jennings, Curry and Jeff Teague are way better!! trust me...
going to keep my mouth shut and let the players do the talking during the season. Every week I'll compare the following PGs stats and by who they play against and head to head match ups against each other if any that week. I'm only comparing, Holiday, Rubio, Jennings, Flynn, and Teague. I don't consider Curry a PG, and the others I don't think I need to compare unless they really start doing good. Also depends on their team by who they play with as well.
thats what i was gonna go to shut up the rubio haters good idea
Ufff. Also i dont want to reply more about this, i don't want to try to convince more about this. You can take your point of view and very respected. Only i want to say than maybe lets talk people about what they know, and listen about when we don't know much. I saw for 3 years to RR. I was on dude on him when he goes to junior national team, when he goes to pro national competition, when he goes to Europe pro, and when he goes to the Olympics, and ever he convince me. I can not be now sceptic about him. And sorry for my "english". :)
actually he wont immidiately help teams and other gms have said so..the consensious is it will take him 2 years to adjust to the nba game ..hes getting picked on what he could possible do in the future....and in the olympics (to the other guy who commented on that) hes wasnt that great...( 4pts 3ast 2 turnovers a game)
Yeah you probably are right about Rubio being able to help a team right away but, it really depends on what kind of situation he is put in to. If he is drafted by the Thunder, I think they would move Westbrook to the 2 and he would play starting point guard in a starting lineup with three guys averaging more than 15 points per game, including Kevin Durant. If they Thunder draft Rubio this year and they can sign a big man in the 2010 free agency sweepstakes(they have cap space galore), I could see them being incredibly deadly down the road with Rubio as their point guard of the future.
Race___Hype_____He is amazing in he mod o pis pete but so is Jennings and Curry!
