Why is Marcus Smart 3rd?

Why is marcus smart third on the mock draft? i dont see it fit?, its better if Marcus was drafted by the Magic,

The wizards has drafted Beal last year and looks like a legit scorer, and the running mate of john wall, he is just 19 and an earlier post says that the wizards are ready to trade anybody except Wall,Beal and Okafor for josh smith. Beal is showing he could score in bunches like the game in Milwaukee where he shoot Lights out, 28 pts for 58.8% FG along with 80% percent from beyond the arc, he is averaging only 13pts per game but will improve once he gets more confidence, sometimes he forcing some shots, but its because he is young! By drafting Zeller, He could fill in some void when Nene gets Injured (Sure happens alot) and slowly getting his minutes, by slowly giving zeller the Starting Job and easing of the pressure i know Nene has a huge contract but he could be a Trade asset, Everybody needs a Bigman!

I'm pretty positive that

I'm pretty positive that right now, since it is still early in the season, that the website is on more of a Big Board thing, not yet putting players according to value and needs of teams. Not 100% on that but I've read it as being the case before

It's just a big board of the

It's just a big board of the top players. When we know the order of the draft things will get a little more clear, but until then it's just the best rank players.

I think Zeller is a very

I think Zeller is a very smart and safe pick however they just drafted 2 PFs and have one of the best young Centers in the league. They badly need a PG so I would take Smart if I were them...even second overall. I think Porter will be a good pick as well and would fit nicely on their roster. They already have Afflalo at the 2 so Smart or Porter should be the pick. I guess Shabazz could also be a darkhorse if they are high on him but I don't think he fits as well as the others.

Smart

I think he's probably the safest pick at PG, and Orlando has a glaring need for a good PG. Even though he may not be the best shooter, he's a lockdown defender at the PG spot, and he'll be better than Jameer Nelson. He also has that intangible will to win/hard work that the Magic could use. That said, the rankings are based on the big board right now, and this could totally change depending on how OSU does in the tourney, what the pre-draft process is like, and what the Magic decides their needs are.

without upsetting the players

without upsetting the players now, i think the safe choice would be either Porter or Smart, they have Big baby Davis, Andrew Nicholson and Al harrington, but i guess all of them are expendable but glen Davis, he gives the hustle, heart and character for the team, But with drafting Either Porter/Smart, they could embrace the sixth man/emerging starter, replacing Jameer Nelson and Hedo "Steroids" Turk, Jameer could be eventually the spark in the bench, his range is still there,

Haven't seen Smart play, but

Haven't seen Smart play, but at his size can he play the 2? I see someone states he's not a shooter, but is he that terrible, does he show potential? And what NBA player would you compare him to? Also, while they are deep at the 4, when you talk about building a team, I think Zeller would pair well with Vuvecic. Nicholson shows promise, but he and Vuvecic are both finesse players, not exactly what you want out of both your bigs. Smart, if he can play both guard positions, will be the smart pick since it offers flexibility for the future.

I have seen a lot of

I have seen a lot of comparisons to James Harden. He isn't really a pure PG but will thrive with the ball in his hands. He is very strong and will attack the rim relentlessly while also setting up his teammates. He is also a great defender. He can't shoot as well as Harden so he could be a Tyreke Evans type player as well. There are a lot of similarities here; size, strength, ability to attack the tin, struggles with outside shooting, versatility, lack of a true position. What separates Smart from Evans is his competitive fire and effort on the defensive end. I'm not sure Smart will ever be a 20 point-per-night type of guy like Evans was during his rookie year, but I wouldn't rule it out down the road.

I see Smart as a Chauncey

I see Smart as a Chauncey Billups type but with less shooting skills.

I just looked at some of his

I just looked at some of his highlights. He at least has decent form. That offers hope that he can improve his shooting. Dude looks good though. I need to catch up on my college games

Honestly if Orlando thinks it

Honestly if Orlando thinks it is a reach to take Smart that early. They could take Zeller and move him for a piece or pieces they need. They could trade best available talent and draft Noel and just wake for him to him and develop with no pressure. Glen Davis is not the future. I like Nicholson but he may not be that once in a lifetime talent that Noel could be.

Orlando is young enough and unless they gamble on potential star they need to trade for a young vet like Maynor, etc.

To clarify: The mock

To clarify:

The mock doesn't take team needs into consideration until the draft order is set (before the lotto, but after the regular season ends).

We differentiate the big board and the mock to show the difference between where we would take players and where teams would take them.

The way we approach the big board and mock draft is as follows... the big board is a reflection of where we see the player's value if every eligible player were to enter the draft this year and what their long term value is to teams. Some players would rank higher if it were based on them leaving in future seasons (for instance we think Andre Hollins will stay this year and ultimately end up better than Trey Burke in the NBA, but we project Burke higher on the big board because it's based on both players leaving this year and Burke is further along and more NBA ready).

The mock is how we see the draft going including which year we think the player will enter. Some teams needs and players don't match up, but the player order takes precedence as the team order is still in flux.

Other things you should keep in mind: Trades are made. In 2008 OJ Mayo was considered the consensus 3rd best player. But people knew Minnesota didn't want him. Mayo ended up going 3rd via trade. Also, IMO teams at the top of the draft really shouldn't take team needs into consideration. For instance, Cleveland would be MUCH better off with Damian Lillard than Dion Waiters right now. Imagine the upgrade they could make at 2guard over Waiters using Lillard as trade bait. Heck, play Kyrie and Lillard together! As the old saying goes, draft for talent, trade for need.

The consensus for magic fans

The consensus for magic fans is Marcus Smart. For the longest time they have wanted a potential point guard who has the chance to be special. However i feel as long as orlando comes away with a perimeter player who can create his own shot or a guy who can get you that basket late in the 4th i would be pleased. Orlando lacks a go to scorer right now. Muhammad fits the bill

i haven't seen enough of his

i haven't seen enough of his play but considering this is not a sure shot draft and Orlando has Aaron Afflalo who shoots a good percentage on FG and 3PT. He gets to the line at a decent clip and makes them. It took Aaron a while to get to this point. I am still not sold on Muhammed as being a 3 man unless he grows a couple of inches.

Orlando needs post up 4 man and a better point guard. They are decent at Center, Shooting guard, power forward except none of their 4's demand a double team.

they have too many young players so getting a young vet could help.

After this current trade they have Harkless/Harris at the sf spot who were hyped out of college and may have more long term potential than Muhammed and most of the small forwards in this draft.

There is no 2 guard save for the Ben MccLemore that would start over Aaron Afflalo and even that could be a stretch because Aaron is solid and is a good NBA defender. Most rookies struggle on defense for a while especially the really young ones.

Smart plays like a vet and should be the pick but he may also fall due to many teams not needing point guard so Orlando could grab a big that most teams need and than trade for a pick and a nice young players and get the PG that they need and another solid bench piece that they could use.
