Why I believe DeMarcus Cousins is the top prospect in the draft.
I want to start this thread off by saying I do not think John Wall is a bad player or that he will not be the #1 pick in the NBA draft.
Though, DeMarcus Cousins' size and skill set could have him flirting with a 20/10 rookie year. Also, DeMarcus Cousins' competition is a lot less rigorous than John Wall's competition.
Say John Wall gets drafted #1 overall by the Nets, this is what his season will look like.
Rajon Rondo- 4 times
Derrick Rose- 3-4 times
Dwyane Wade- 3-4 times
Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Chauncey Billups, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Tyreke Evans, and Stephen Curry two times each. Wall is going to be constantly challenged.
Say DeMarcus Cousins gets drafted 3rd overall by the Kings, this is what he'll have to go up against.
Dwight Howard- 2 times
Andrew Bynum- 4 times
Portland's frontcourt, maybe a healthy Greg Oden- 3-4 times
Marc Gasol- 3-4 times
Brook Lopez- 2 times
Robin Lopez- 4 times
Andrins Biedrins- 4 times
Point is the point guard position is extremely deep, and unless John Wall is the next Lebron, which he is not, he is going to be in the same pool as the rest those guys, very good no doubt, but not over the top.
Cousins on the other hand if he gets his attitude right has the potential to be a very dominant player for a long time, and with the right personnel around him you can build championship teams.
...gets into better shape he will no doubt be a top 5 center in the league next year
^Next year? A top 5 center? Let's be patient
I Agree that DeMarcus Cousins COULD be the best prospect
but i do not agree with the reasoning
a thing that could set DeMarcus aside is His Size,Strength and The Knack of getting the rebound
Now, the NBA lacks of great Big Men, it is now a point guards Game.
8 elite Centers
Now name me 10 elite point guards
Im pretty sure you would be able to say the point guards easier
The NBA Lacks True Big Men
Sure You Have Dwight, now who else,
Andrew Bynum, he still needs to grow has great potential, but still has alot to learn,
Brook Lopez, will be in his 3rd year, has yet to be dominant, Yao ming = Injured
Greg Oden=Injured,Al Horford = 6'9
When you draft DeMarcus he COULD be the next great bigman.. or not
Good Point Big Country will have a good season. maybe 18 and 8 is more possible but other than that he will go to a team that is gonna go to him first because teams go inside out unless you have LeBron
Reading this makes me think one question: How good could Rubio be in the NBA
Stf, I am not sure about what you're saying and how it is different from what I am saying. The only way Cousins fails is 3 things; Injuries, poor attitude, and/or poor conditioning. The guy has the skill set to be an all-star in the NBA, that goes unquestioned.
knicksfan, i'm not disagreeing or anything
i just dont see how who you play against (in your position)
matter about how good your going to be
i agree with everything else
I can't wait until Cousins turns into Eddy Curry 2.0.....you all be eating your ridiculous comments, at which point you'll probably flip flop harder than Jay Mariotti.
His skill set is unquestioned?? He won't be able to muscle through centers in the NBA like he did in college... Greg Oden's skill set was unquestioned too huh???
cousins isn't the top, just like kobe shouldn't have gotten on top of that girl that said no, but that didn't stop kobe from thrusting himself on her.
I believe he is talented to be a top 5 center in a year if he gets his stamina up and loses some body fat. He is Shaq like to me but because of questions about his maturity and John Wall's and Turner's hype he does not get look at as such.
Nooo... He's not Shaq like Sheltwon lol.
he is shaq like, he dominates physically. just like how kobe physically dominated that innocent little girl who was crying for him to stop but kobe wouldn't.
I see your point knicksfan but wouldnt you want a top guard on your team like Wall going toe to toe with the other top guards because your more likely to lose a game to a great guard than a great big man since there are so few in today's game
lets not forget bogut, all nba third team center
Demarcus cousins is so big that only Dwight Howard or centers with a high
motor and lots of activity will be able to disrupt him. Dwight does that to everyone and there's nothing anyone can do about it. Other than that no one is good enough to fluster him. Bynum will get exposed due to his lack of tenacity which cousins has. Oden will probably only face him once or twice before he's out for the year. Also I think what separates Demarcus from eddy curry is that cosuins has a mean streak that curry didn't have. Reallistically the only thing that held him back was his heart problem where he didn't play for that entire season. If you remember he Les centers in scoring when he was in Chicago back in around 03 or 04
sacphil, Curry only sat out the post season, and a small portion of regular season games. That was very unfortunate for that to happen to Curry.
True knicksfan but he had a heart problem that means that he couldn't do basketball or anything that would accelerate his heart rate and being that big it's tough to come back from that as we've seen. His career went downhill even more when he had the knee injury and d'antoni came over as coach. Curry has gotten lost in the mess that is the knicks (no offense) and they're probably just looking to get rid of his contract now. If he were in the right situation all his career he wouldve been very solid. Besides I think cousins is better than curry was coming in anyway
Not even the best big man in the draft.
Name another big man in college basketball that had a better season than DeMarcus Cousins.
