BajeebzParticipantI’ve noticed within the last few days multiple threads have disappeared from the forum. Does anybody know why? They seem to be off-topic subjects, on Richard Sherman, or more recently posts about espn insider content. I understand why they might be taken down, but they’ve never been before. So I am wondering, is there’s a new nbadraft.net policy in place? Anybody else notice this new trend? Does this mean 1984 is real?

tli232Please post in <off-topic> if your new forum topic is blatantly off-topic.
MODs will take it down if posted in <NBA Draft> section of the forum.
Thanks.

TyroberParticipantI’v saw a lot get deleted or moved. 90% of stuff posted in the main part isn’t about the NBA draft so I don’t know why some stuff is moved and some isn’t

tli232Guys, MODs are people too.
They don’t check every topic.
There’s no favouritism here.

mikeyvthedonParticipantWill say, it is not censorship. Here are my reasons for either deleting or removing threads.- Have been cracking down on ESPN Insider posting. Think the reason is that we do not want to be the site that is known as "the site that posts ESPN Insider articles". That could gain attention from them that we do not want, as it is not entirely out of the realm of possibility that some of them visit us from time to time. If something is REALLY interesting, guessing people will post it. Otherwise, Google is your friend. Copy the title, first few sentences and you can probably find what you are looking for. Just think it got out of control on here.
- Another thing I have been doing is trying to keep control on multiple threads speaking about the same topic. Their used to be a trend here of having about 2-3 people report the breaking news story or the latest big article/highlight of the day. Find it is so much better when people post under a singular thread, think everyone gets a lot more out of it.
- Double posts. If you end up double or triple posting, try to fix that for you. Sometimes, unfortunately, that means deleting possible comments on that post. It happens on occasion, wish it wouldn’t, though it is one of the downsides of a double post on a thread.
Now, as far as relocating, if a post is either really low on content or completely Off-Topic, to the point of little interest, than it might be moved off of the main "NBA Draft" board. The "Off-Topic" board used to be awesome and now, is not. It does get SPAM-med quite a bit, which I try to delete whenever I notice it happening. Not always the first thing on my mind, though.
Will say, no idea what happened to the Richard Sherman thread, though their already was one before than. Did not delete it, though Aran is in the Bay Area, so I will leave it at that. With Off-Topic posts, it is really all about how things are going. If the board is slow, they may get a pass. If their is a lot of news, than it may get moved. I try not to delete anything that has some thought put into it or could start discussion.
So, do not exactly see any of this as "censorship". I also do not know all of the mods, though I really do not think they have been going overboard. Just trying to keep the board basketball focused, which is what ultimately brings us all here. Getting upset about Insider seems to be the ultimate thing and just realize, it all comes out eventually and can be found. Do not think this is a good congregating place for that, especially seeing that this site provides draft content that tends to precede them anyway.

mikeyvthedonParticipantYeah, I have had Mod capabilities for only a while now. Definitely up for communication if anyone has questions. You can e-mail me at:
If you want to talk basketball or have a question, will definitely do my best to respond in a timely manner. Believe me, have no intention of going all Orwell on people. I am absolutely fine with opinions different than my own. Just ultimately hope they have actual content and can provide discussion. That is what makes this board great. Single sentence posts, re-hashes on already active topics or blatant trolling, those are the posts that I am pretty sure most mods go after.
We still go by this rule as well:
http://nbadraft.net/forum/forum-quality-have-take-dont-suck
It is all good if you want to know the opinions of others. Just think the best posts also give a take of their own, in some shape or form. So, do not be afraid, take a stance. If you do your research and think it out, chances are you will get positive response. Also, if you post here a lot, check the board for topics. It will probably help response to your posts as well.
(By "you" or "your" am talking universally, not just to the person or people I responded to on here)

ChewyParticipant1. I love the George Orwell references… mixing classical literature with hoop talk is hilariously intelligent!
2. Props to everyone on here who took a stand against rating 5th/6th/7th graders.
3. I find it incredibly annoying that ESPN has made 70% of their content "insider," but I get that you don’t want this site to turn into an "Insider Repost" webpage. Makes complete sense.
4. Go Broncos, Welker was big for my fantasy team this year.
5. Look forward to arguing with you all in the future!

CynthiaParticipantAs someone who has created and ran gaming forums in the past I have my own two cents to toss in to the moderators of this site.
First off, I can totally understand moving or even deleting the ESPN Insider posts/requests because this is not related to this website and also violates copyright issues, you cannot legally provide a paid service to users for free.
However, this is where my agreeing with the mods ends. We all know the NBA Draft section is not only the most dominant section but the only one 90% of users ever go to. To move a thread away from this section is effectively killing the thread, I could understand if the Off-Topic section was populated, however it’s nothing but spam bots and no one visits this section anymore due to this. Therefore once moving a thread here is a death setence. If the thread has little-to-no interest it can be an understandable move, but as of late there has been A LOT less posting on this site, so having more content on the most popular section will improve views.
The Off-Topic section, I’m not going to delve much into this because I’ve already explained a way the spam bots can be fixed a long time ago, if you do not wish to take my advice then that’s your own issue. Long story short, change the title of this section to something less generic, bots are programmed to target generic forum topics such as "General" "Miscellaneous" "Off Topic", etc. If you change the name to something less obvious these bots will have a significantly harder time finding them and posting in them.
One thing MikeyV said kind of angered me, the part about moving threads because multiple existed. These is not something any admin/mod should ever do. Why? This promotes favoritism, if three theads are similar and a mod decides to kick out two and leave one that’s not fair to the other two posters. Also again as stated before there isn’t as many people posting these days so leaving as many threads up for people to read is going to help grow the forum. If someone does not want to read the same topic three times, then they can choose on their own to pick one and disregard the other two, but no mod should be moving them at their own will. This is an abuse of power.
I have more I wish to say but can leave this for another day, as at this time I need to leave for work.
Thanks!

mikeyvthedonParticipantI rarely, if ever, have done this. Especially if the person has a well thought out opinion and has put time into writing something. If I ever have moved something, it is under the circumstances of someone posting the same link/news story with no other content being present. Think this goes under the "Have a take, don’t suck" guideline. With a breaking news story, some people will post at the same time, usually just wanting to discuss said story. If that person either regrets doing so or has no additional content, than I will delete it.
Again, this does depend on how busy the forum is and what kind of discussion is going on. What you can do, is check either the "NBA" or "Off-Topic" board yourself to see just how much power abuse has been going on as far as that is concerned. As far as me moving something to a different board, do not recall doing so in months and would do so quite rarely. Only if the topic was either blatantly trolling, off-topic without any activity or a double post. So, if your thread is just a repeat of an earlier topic, I am not picking favorites or squashing users. Odds are, I didn’t touch it, move it or delete it. So, do not think power abuse by mod’s is a major issue.
As for changing the name of the "Off-Topic" section, am not able to do that. Will talk to Aran and see if we can figure something else. The best way to make changes to technical aspects of the site is more than likely not on a thread. It is in an e-mail to Aran, or I gave mine as well. Fairly certain Aran does not check the forums as often as I do. Know that I miss threads from time to time as well. Hope that alleviates concern of mod abuse and lets you know that no one is picking favorites when it comes to posts that have had work or thought put into them.
