Why are most of the best Defenders a LITTLE WACKY? lol

I've always notice that some of the best defenders are a little wacky..Do they do that to motivate themselves or to scare opponents? here are a few of the best defenders ..i guess do what makes u successful...lol

Dennis Rodman..Dying his hair,Marrying himself,Kicking photographers,

Ron Artest..Caused a mass riot ..some wonder who did his class work while he was at St. Johns...

Bruce Bowen..Some say he use cheap tactics like tripping people and doing what ever it took to stop an opponent..Vince Carter once called him the Dirtiest player in the league..

Lebron James..Nike Begged & offered him money not to wear the number 23..
But he wore it anyway..Then said 23 should be retired..Then Announce he's changing it to 6..Dont he know that 2 of the most Legendary players ever Dr. J & Bill Russell wore number 6?

Gary Payton..The Human Bobble-Head Trash Talkin Guard..got into players jerseys..

Rajon Rondo..Hands bigger then a baseball mitt..

Ben Wallace..Big Ben's wild Fro..made him a fan favorite..

Kevin Garnett..Dude slaps opponents on the head..get in teammates faces..
Dwight Howard..Despite his care-free attitude..Dwight doesnt play when it comes to defense..

Alonzo Mourning...Have been known to talk to himself on the court..

Latrell Sprewell...Dude said he cant feed his family on 10 million dollars...

To be fair to Ron Artest, Ben Wallace really started that mass riot...but then again he is also one of the best defenders ever.

i do think wallace started the whole riot situation as well. But ron should never have ran into the stands. A lot of people defend him by saying thats how anyone would respnd and fans dont have the right to throw things at athletes(very true) but he didnt even know who to go after. He ran right past the guy who threw the drink and started kicking some innocnent poor fans ass who was just there to watch the game

This is definitely true. I think its because it takes a different kind of guy to take the long journey of making it to the NBA and then to get there and predicate their identity as a defensive stopper from day 1. Think, if you make it to the NBA the way to get in the spotlight is by trying to be a great scorer or shooter, dunker etc. but if theres a guy who can make it and say I want to be known as a defensive menace, it takes a different kind of person to do that hence the obscurities of the guys you mentioned (matt barnes, ron artest) having said that lebron is NOT one of the best defenders. He has the tools but he wont be the caliber defender as guys who make it their top priority

I think you have to add Ruben Patterson to that list. He was a good defender, but he had to go and call himself "The Kobe Stopper". A bit over the top if you ask me.

Its because Patterson hated

Its because Patterson hated Kobe when Patterson was on the Lakers he was trying to make the roster and they had heated battles everyday and there was apperently no love lost among them

yeah, kobe and petterson

yeah, kobe and petterson never got along and patterson believed the lakers got rid of him becasue of kobe. I will say this in pattersons defense, i think he gaurded kobe better then anyone i have seen. Kobe always took that matchup personal and had to work extra hard to get his numbers.
