The only guys I've heard of are Jahlil Okafor and Karl Towns.
I don't like handing titles to guys who have yet played in the NBA. So i'm gonna go with some young guys. I think Andre Drummond can be the next great big man in the NBA. And if he goes to psychiatrist this off season and get his act together, Demarcus Cousins has a chance to be as well. He needs to hit up Ron Artest and get the number to his psychiatrist lol.
Andre Drummond, Anthony Davis, Jonas Valanciunas.
Drummond and Davis have a chance to both be top 20 players in the NBA. Dakari hasnt developed quite as much as I Hoped, and is far from the athlete that Drummond and Davis is. But he's big, strong, and aggressive. I'm really looking forward to seeing Dakari Johnson and Julius Randle team up at Kentucky, and that to me is the key to Kentucky's success.
Plus big men are the most volatile position to predict because health is paramount and tall people have lots of room to get injured.
Kanter was a monster when he received playing time this year. If Jefferson doesn't return, I think he'll have a huge season.
I have a feeling that Thon Maker will be special.. He's huge!
Huge isn't the right word. He might be 7' or whatever, but he's also about 200 lbs with a rail thin frame.
The biased Kansas fan in me really likes Joel's chances. If we are talking about current NBA guys then Anthony Davis for sure has the tools if he keeps developing but back to Joel. He started playing basketball two years ago and was unranked on the espn100 for a while and moved up and up to #6, where he is now in their final update. I think after staying in college 1-2 years he can take the NBA by storm.
I think he has a chance as long as he doesn't jump straight into the NBA after 1 season. He'll need 2 seasons minimum in college for him to have a shot at becoming an elite guy in the NBA.
either he needs to stay in college for 2 to 4 years or if he does go to the NBA early his chances of succeeding will be based on what ever team drafts him at least in college the environment is good for a player to develop, in the NBA it all depends on who drafts you because if demarcus cousins was on a team that had some leadership and coaches focused on developing him he would be an all star
If The Kings Clean Up Their Roster And Put Together Some Type Of Structure To Thier System Demarcus Cousins Will Without A Doubt Be The Top Big Man In The League. He Has The Aggression Of Shaq (Agression Not Power) But He Is Powerful On The Block. He Can Run The Floor As Well As Knock Down A Mid-Range Shot. Not To Mention He Hold's His Own On The Defensive End. No Other Big Man Can Contain Him When He Is Focused.
P.S I Feel Like A Focused Javale Mcgee Can Be A Problem In The League
Tone down on the caps mate. I agree with you but your post burned my eyes.
Did this post make anyone else read slower?
I have been COusins fan and I still believe he 'at least' will be an allstar but now the first name i want to say is Andre Drummond..
kid has all the tools to be DOMINANT
A lot of young and talented bigs out there, including Cousins, Drummond, Davis, Kanter, Favors, Sanders.
I'm putting my money on Jonas Valanciunas.
Greg Monroe has already proven he's a great player, he just doesn't get the media attention. He averaged 16 and 10 this season. I still don't understand how he goes unnoticed.
Probably this really big dude Detroit drafted out of UConn....
andrew bynum and his knees are destined for greatness.......
Out of the names mentioned in this thread I'd have to go with Kanter because he's big, strong, athletic and actually has skill.
The next great big man is Andre Drummond. Jonas Valanciunas will be a great player too.
From this draft, I really like Alex Len. Oddly enough, Len gets Valanciunas comparisons on this site.
His unique skill set, nose for rebounds, and making other big men cringe when he's down low make it hard not to select him as the next great big man. However someone on this site once said he's suffering from the worst injury an up and coming star can have. A "Dislocated Brain".
With the right player development possibly Meyers Leonard. The guy is a freak in terms of length, size, and athleticism, and is noted for having a strong work ethic. Not saying he will be but don't count him out.
While I don't think he'll be great I'm glad you pointed him out. He does have the right set of tools necessary to have an impact in this league. Very, very athletic for his size and controls his body quite well actually. Offensive game is a work in progress but few big men come in with good offensive games as rookies. I think he can be a solid player in this league with some tweaks.
Drummond and Cousins for me are right now 2 most talented young big man in NBA,and if you looking for players that are in high school,Okafor and Cliff Alexander, the're class 2014,for younger guys you'll have to wait beacuse every year someone show up
In five years there will be plenty of good to great rim protectors, but Anthony Davis and Andre Drummond will be great on both the offensive and defensive end.
Edit: Kanter too.
Too difficult to gauge college prospects.
im hoping dakari johnson can put it together, im not saying hes the next great big man but he could be reallllly good
I love Kanter's game, he has the mentality to be really good, he has shown he can be the best at every level . He is smart and works really hard, Big Al says I show Kanter something once and he shows he can do it almost immediately. He really has the tools to be effective both on the inside and outside. He is still really young and will just get better and better.
As a Jazz fan I'd love to say Favors will be on that list and he definitely has the potential to be great, how hard he works and how much he can develop on the offensive end will determine how good he becomes, defensively he can be like Howard, offensively he can be better than Howard but at this point he needs alot of work. This next yr will probably show us how good he can become, how hard he works this summer will be key.
I really like what Drummond has shown and he could be terrific , he has great size and great athleticism for a man his size.
Britney Griner...just kidding.
