Here's my top 4:
Jared Sullinger: As much as I hate OSU, the guy's a beast. One of the best true PF's to play in college ball in a long time. Averaging 17 and 10 on the (currently) #1 team, he fits the "Best player on the best team" argument.
Kemba Walker: Having a ridiculous year after an underwhelming season last year. He's hit at least 2 game winners this year, and pretty much single-handedly wills his team to win tough games. Of course, averaging 25, 5, and 4 doesn't hurt either.
Jimmer Fredette: I'll admit, I haven't seen any BYU this year, but when I watched him in the tourney last year, this guy was lighting people up. I think he's the nation's leading scorer (? I know he's at least in the top 5), and his team is doing very well. That said, he's in a small-market team, and that could hurt him when it comes to the idiot voters who love the big-name teams.
Kyle Singler: He didn't have the greatest start to the year, but he's really come on strong since the Irving injury. In fact, I would have had Irving at the top of this list if he were still healthy; you could argue that Singler isn't even the best player on his team. But he's the biggest name on Duke, and that counts for something.
I'm sure I'm forgetting people, but I think Sullinger has to be considered the front-runner. Having an OSU player win it 2 years in a row would be lame, though. I hope someone steps up and crushes them in Big-Ten play.
good list. Sullinger's a straight up beast, to big and to strong for anyone they've faced to guard one on one. He almost reminds me of Blake at Oklahoma in the sense that he gets the other team into foul trouble. Another person im really high on, but hesitant to mention because it doesn't seem like anyone else is, is Derrick Williams. He's averaging 20ppg on 65% shooting and 69% from 3. His shooting percentages show no signs of coming back down to earth, and he's still averaging 2.2 points per shot on top of eight rebounds, an assist, a steal, and a block. Has to at least be in the discussion.
Right now I think it's Kemba Walker.
It's got to be Kemba Walker. He's been consistent day in and day out, and just look at that team of scrubs he plays with. Besides Oriaki no one on that team is a legit player, yet he still leads them to wins and a top rank. And as you've mentioned he's made so many game winners against great teams. Villanova, Texas, and other teams know what im talking about.
Switch Singler with Nolan Smith all its all gravy
I have to go with kemba. just a side note, shabazz napier will be the next great guard from UCONN in 2 years
I think everyone hit the nail on the head, its Kemba's award to lose. Followed by Fredette, Nolan Smith, and Jujaun Johnson (who has been given little credit even though he is being a beast).
renardo sidney..no just kidding..lol
3 guys have separated themselves from the pack...They are
Jared Sullinger-Its amazing what he's doing as a freshman..AP was right..A freshman will be on the All American 1st Team, but i'll be Sullinger, not Barnes...It will be hard not to vote for him as POY if Ohio State remain number 1 or 2 in the Polls...
Kemba Walker-Walker had been a 1 man gang ,for most of the season..Until Calhoun started getting a little help from the frontline..Voters will say ,he's the winner becuz he doesnt have the supporting cast that Sullinger have...
Jimmer Fredette-He's an outstanding shooter, fearless and a better playmaker than people thought..Teams wont be afraid to take him in the 15 to 20 range...
This might be 1 of those years where several media outlets will have a different College Player of the Year...Sullinger and Walker will be chosen the winners by different media types...
Yeah ur probably rite rudeboy. They probably won't be a consensus NPOY like Blake Griffin or Evan Turner was. To many quality candidates that you can make an argument for. Hopefully guys separate themselves as the grind of conference play moves on. I'm really liking Jimmer though man.
I'm going with Kemba but Sullinger is having a monster season and Ohio is still undefeated so it's close. Whatever happened to Harrison Barnes? He was expected to have a great season and was even put in the All NCAA team in the preaseaon but so far he is lacking the leadership quality NC needs and doesn't seem to have the drive to just take over games although he does sometimes but not enough and always have on and off games. I hope he gets back on track soon or it's gonna a long road to NBA stardom.
Its a toss up between Walker and Sullinger.
Let me say this about Sullinger...this guy will not be a force in the NBA. He is 6 9, plays entirely under neath the rim has no outside game what so ever....hes basically a less fat big baby with no jump shot and more polished inside game. He can make moves in the post but he isnt going to get position on NBA bigs and he isnt going to be able to just go through NBA bigs. To me, hes essentially Hansbrough.
Kyrie Irving wuld have been my favorite barring a toe injury, geesh bad luck for him.
Id love to give Walker the lead since Ive been a big fan of his for a long time, and remember watching games last year where he was doing this (inconsistantly. The talent was there but the team just had so many issues and he wasnt focsed like this year.
To be honest what Sulli is doing this year cannot be taken for granted. He is a Fresman, on a team alot of people said would have no guidance de to eak PG play, and he is guding them from a frontcourt position in a league, and sport that has definitely become gaurd dominant and perimeter oientated. Alot of people are saying hes like Kevin Love, or Blake Grifin but Id say hes more of a dedicated Zach Randolph. He has so many skills he doesnt even show us at this point bcause they are outside of the teams concept. He is a bull, but his wieght and condtioning looks fine up to this point, and only improving. Rght now Id say Jared is a Top 3 Pick, I wouldnt be shocked if he goes to Cleveland.
Mine would be between Kemba walker, Jimmer Fredette and Nolan smith. I saw kyle singlers name but if anything its been nolan smith carrying that team. Hes gone for sum huge scoring numbers since kyrie has been out. But if i had to pick one it may be kemba walker slightly over jimmer but only because he plays in a power conference and faces tougher competition
Zach Randolph is dedicated...hes just alittle bit of a loose cannon sometimes.
Jimmer, Kemba or Sullinger...Jimmer is up there and thats not debateable. He gives good teams buckets as well as bad teams and his conference is ranked 3rd if im not mistaken( might be fourth) which makes it a power conference.
Those 3 do seem to stand out, Sullinger, Walker and Jimmer. I feel Nolan Smith is having the better season of he and Singler, though Singler is the better NBA prospect. Still, feel they kind of cancel each other out, and that the other 3 are ahead of them in the race for MVP awards. First Team All-American would probably be those 5, and right now I like Sullinger for Player of the Year. I think Jimmer is runner up at this point, though earlier in the year Kemba was incredible. Still have a feeling Big East play will be very tough for the Huskies though, so we will see if Kemba does not drop a bit in the rankings. He already has seemed to drop on draft boards, which is slightly surprising.
