I know there are so many threads about the Cavs having the 1st pick, but I thought it would be nice to have an official one. Who do they pick? why?

Embiid has been mentioned and it seems it’s a no brainer if he’s cleared by the medical staff.

    What do you guys think?

I could see CAV fans pushing for Wiggins to fill that LeBron void they still have.. but if the team was smart they would make sure Embiid is medically cleared and take him number 1.. he is about as rare as they come as far as size and being able to run the floor..

I’d like Embiid for them.  I am really torn between Wiggins and Embiid for the first pick, but I think the Cavs are a potential great fit for Embiid.  Varejao could teach him the ropes and split minutes with him early in his career and then Embiid could take over when Varejao is gone.  Embiid could be the defensive anchor they really need while giving them an interior scorer.

I worry Wiggins could be lost in the shuffle in Cleveland, because they aren’t known for their ball movement and already have two dominant perimeter scorers, so the Cavs just wouldn’t be a great fit for Wiggins. Wiggins skills without the ball could help the team, but I think it may be more important that they go big and get an interior presence.

And Parker would be solid, I’m sure, but they already have two scoring guards and they don’t really have great shooting down low, unless Bennett develops, so I fear Parker won’t get enough touches in paint or shots at the hoop if he goes to the Cavs.

Definitely Embiid pending a medical review. Wiggins would be the next option in my opinion. However, I think if Wiggins were to be picked that Waiters would have to go.

This is the Cavs we are talking about so nothing is clear. They took Bennett as 1 last year when most of us had him in the 8-10 range

New GM, new Coach….zero reason to believe they’d deviate from standard expectation any more than any other team would.

I would have to go with Wiggins.  You just don’t find many guys with that kind of athleticism.  He has the highest ceiling out of anybody in the draft.  The only question now is if he has the desire and work ethic to be great.

Has to be wiggins. They can’t afford to try to hit a home run in embiid and him not turn out to be great. Gotta be Andrew Wiggins

I think it will go 1. Wiggins 2. Parker 3. Embiid? (I’m really not sure what Sixers would do, maybe Exum?) 4. Exum 5. Vonleh 6. Randle 7. Smart. After that it’s anyones guess.

In my mock, I have them picking Wiggins because he fills a need for them a talent wing scorer. I think he’d fit in at the 2 or 3 just fine.

The only Cavs lottery pick people expected in the last four years was Kyrie Irving. Tristan Thompson, Dion Waiters, and Anthony Bennett were all surprises with Bennett undoubtably being the biggest surprise of the bunch.

I think they go Wiggins. He has superstar potential, but has also proved that he doesn’t neccessarily need the ball to be effective. Kyrie and Waiters need the ball in their hands. The Cavaliers also need someone who knows how to play defense on the wing.

I don’t think they chose Embiid because he isn’t a sure thing, plus he has injury concerns. While he does have the potential to be the next great center, the Cavs can’t afford to mess up with this pick.

I don’t think they can chose Parker because they would just be adding another player who needs the ball in his hands and has questionable defense.

Well we thought they needed a 3 last year and everybody was thinking Otto Porter until they landed the 1st overall pick. Now they filled that void with Luol Deng..(if they resign him). That leaves a big hole inside after picking guys like Bennett, Thompson and Zeller who haven’t exactly been great players. Embiid should be their pick if they are going with need. He could help instantly with the Cavs defense and his offense could be brought along slowly.

I could see them going Wiggins as well but as a Sixers fan I am still hoping he somehow falls to 3rd.

Personally I’d be surprised to see Deng resign with the Cavs. Their management has done a poor job even as far back as when they had Lebron and I’m sure a lot of contenders will have interest in bringing the hardworking Deng into the fold.

Wiggins is my favorite player in the draft, but im torn…

1)Going to the cavs, hes a clear cut number 3 option with Irving and Waiters there,so expectations could be sorta tamed for now.He is not ready to be a number 1 in my opinion, not because of his so called lack of agression, but because hes right now below average at finishing at the rim and dribbling. So going to the cavs would be good.

2)Expectations would actually go insane, with him being number 1 pick ,cavs fan/media would expect him to come in and be the next Lebron, cavs fans/media  now could say they dont need Lebron all that much anymore…I dont think Wiggins would need that at all for his developpement right now,but  thats probably the likeliest thing to happen if he goes number 1.

Regardless,if Embiid checks out 100% medically,i tdoubt anyone would actually have passed on him number 1 so hes the pick. And being a Wiggins fan, because of 2),i hope he doesnt go there,or to Milwaukee with the second pick for that matter.

I think Wiggins makes sense as well, but Embiid’s skillset is unique and they don’t have similar players in the East. That would give them a great all around lineup. I do believe they’ll end up moving Dion, though.

    Wiggins.

Embiid and Wiggins are rated extremely closely. Embiid is a lot riskier though, and I think if given the choice they avoid the heightened risk. They swung for the fences last year and paid. This year, Wiggins is the smarter pick.

Further, if the Cavaliers really are looking for the guy that fits best with the talent they have its going to be Wiggins. He’s a great fit with Waiters and Irving in a three guard rotation and can slide to SF as needed. He can protect Kyrie defensively with some match ups and he’s ready to catch and shoot off their penetration from day 1.

Embiid may seem like the best fit but Parker and Wiggins are still ahead to me.

Embiid makes a ridiculous amount of sense from an x’s and o’s standpoint. Having a stretch four Bennett, Thompson a grungy PF/C to get tough baskets, boards, loose balls and make tough plays. And a true C with low post and high post offense, and very active defender at 7’feet tall. Surround that with two great scoring gaurds and find a SF that can play 3 and D maybe Hayward. Now they can also move Varejao and get rid of that last piece from the Lebron reign.

Although Wiggins and Parker make sense with media, marketing, relations, branding and all the little "buisness" things.

Media- Parker and Wiggins have both already shown to be huge media hits in comparison to Embiid. I think they are more capable of being an image for a team then Embiid. They have been preparing for it abiut 4 years each.

Marketing-As mentioned above it is alot easier to market the end of a rebuild with a player that they can sell as the next Lebron. The Cavs are very interactive with their fans and try to do things that make them happy or try not to upset them depending how you look at it. Like not drafting Valanciunas.

Relations-Cavs could build on a Duke relationship or a Canadian relationshio with Parker or Wiggins. Bringing in Parker could be a good pitch to Irving to stay longterm, eapecially with some wins. Although Wiggins has played multiple tournaments with Bennett and with Anthony and Tristan in Cleveland they could really help eachothers transition to the NBA and progression. They can help eachother stay down to earth and not let being top picks get to thier heads.

Totally agree with OhCanada-. I think the Cavs would be smart to pair a Wiggins or Parker with Kyrie and co. I think they could easily be one of the best PG/wing combos in the game. Although Embiid would also be a solid choice, I think Cleveland has ‘learned their lesson’ (ahem Bynum) with picking potential game-changing big men to play the 5.
