tareef32ParticipantAssuming that the first four players picked are Wiggins, Embiid, Parker, and Exum (not necessarily in that order) who does Utah pick? Just curious what everybody thinks.

BallinmvpParticipantI have 3 options take vonleh or randle or trade down. The three most logical choices.

AstroParticipantAssuming they stay pat, probably Noah Vonleh. He has better defensive potential than Randle due to his length and vert, and Utah really needs the D.

HazelParticipantVonleh makes a lot of sense as does Gordon, except that Kanter is there. What about Then trading Kanter for a mid lottery pick? Does he have that value?

Moon RiverParticipantI would really like Gordon in that spot. I think he could be a valuable asset as that hyper active guy who can defend the Blake Griffin types out west.

jtthebrickParticipantBased on what I’m hearing from Jazz GM Dennis Lindsey, they are still in a mode where they are thinking long term and making whatever decision they think will be good in the long term. They know that barring a trade to speed up the rebuild process, they won’t likely be a playoff team next year. So with that in mind, I think they would go with the guy who is the concensus for most upside and Vonleh.
I know that Randle and Gordon have a lot of upside too, and I wouldn’t hate to pick those guys either, but I do not think Utah takes Smart. I’ve read that they are not as high on him as other teams and they obviously just traded up for Trey Burke last year.
The Jazz plan of attack will be to first try to trade into the top 4 I believe. I see some real trade possibilities with Orlando at 4 if it’s true that Orlando likes Smart about as much as Exum. Yes, I think the Jazz would give up the #23 just to move up one spot and secure Exum, who most project playing the 2, despite Exum’s insistence that he wants to be a point guard.

Captain LParticipantGetting into the top 3 would be the ideal thing but I don’t see that happening so as a Jazz fan I’d like to see them take Gordon or Saric, if they could do that by trading down a few spots so much the better but I like their potential and ability play both the 3 and the 4 spots and both players have potential to be drafted higher but in Gordon’s case it’s his shooting that takes him out of the talk for a top 4 spot and I think he has the work ethic to make shooting a positive, Karl Malone came into the league as a poor shooter and because of his work ethic he made it a strength. Saric is a great passer and I love players who pass and make the game easier for teammates, he also has great ball handling skills, good rebounder, and maybe most important he is a leader , who led his team to a championship. Saric would be considered higher than he is if he wasn’t vasulating about whether or not he is willing to come over this year. Both Gordon and Saric have the potential to be all stars .

NtsapParticipantBut they would have to give up #5 + Favors and that would be stupid. I would see if I could get a better guard for Kanter and take the big that meshes with Favors the most. What about trading down with Charlotte? Then using 23 and 24 to move up or for a pick next year?

Captain LParticipantAs a Jazz fan I’d say we have 5 pretty good players, who still have potential to improve and I think they will, Favors, Kanter, Hayward, Burks, & Burke. Unless we were able to get into the top 3 it probably wouldn’t matter who we picked they would probably be coming off the bench behind one of those 5, at least at first , so that is why I’d like to see them go for the players with the highest potential, Gordon, Saric, LaVine, all would be fine with me and if we could move down and get one of those and gain an asset so much the better. At 23 & 35 I’d also like to see them go for potential with someone like Porzingis or Kyle Anderson/Robinson III, players with lottery potential but not there yet.

HitsterParticipantI have put Vonleh on my mock for Utah and the reasons are the same the guys above have given.
I don’t see any of the top 3 trading down to 5 personally and Orlando maybe have better trade up options anyway.
Utah might be able to do a deal with Orlando but if Orlando are set on Exum it won’t happen. The only way it might happen would be if Orlando were set on taking Smart and Rod Hennigan decided to see if he could trade down and effectively try to auction off the 4th pick to get first shot at Exum, Randle etc.

TheLastWordParticipantUtah’s young guys are getting older and decisions are probably best made this year when they still have some value. I would view Kanter as the odd man out and grab Vonleh who has 3 inches of wingspan on Kanter and about 5 inches of vertical. Use Kanter to move up from your 23rd pick, or shop him for a vet.

Captain LParticipantI could see the Jazz using Kanter in a trade but i think they see alot of potential that he hasn’t had playing time enough to develop, one thing is, I think he will start shooting the 3’s next year and if he can he will stretch the floor, open up the floor and give the Jazz a stretch 4/5 like Okur and that would fit nicely with Favors. I like Vonleh and see alot of talent in him but I also like Gordon and see that he can play the 3 and the 4 and is a very versitile player, high motor, good handles , good defender, defend both the 3&4, good passer, shooting is his weakness but think his work ethic is good enough to fix that.
