Who is the best center in the league?

Everyone says Dwight is the best center in the entire league. I have never bought into this. He is a big guy that blocks shots and rebounds and does what a center is supposed to do but do people really think he is the best? I agree that he is the best defensive center in the league but who is the best offensive or overall center in the league in your opinions?

C is a relatively weak

C is a relatively weak position in the NBA right now. But regardless, I still would take Howard b4 any other center in the league.

But for arguments sake...

When healthy, Yao Ming is up there.

Brook Lopez.

Maybe Joakim Noah. Check out his stats. Very impressive.

Al Horford isn't a bad option either.

I think Pau is more of a PF

I think Pau is more of a PF who is capable of playing C against weaker opponents.

Definently howard, he is the most consistant shot blocker and rebounder in the NBA

Gotta be Mr. Ming

He can guard any center in the post. He can shoot from outside till atleast 15 feet with a high%. He is the Rockets tech free throw shooter too if you can believe that. He has a complete Off game. No weakness i can think of except he is passive at times.

I was thinking about this just the other day. What happened to the Ewing and Hakeem type centers of 10-20 years ago. Great all around D and a multitude of offensive moves from all over the floor. If Garnett wasnt so thin he might be the closest to those types of centers. (I know hes a PF...just saying) Its been a couple decades since the NBA has had a fresh one come in who could do those types of things. What happened to player development for the bigs...

please

i cant make forum topics so will some one re post this. http://www.nbadraft.net/nba_mock_drafts/comments/37019

also howard is clearly the best center. its not his fault the magic are getting killed. you cant win when barnes and a struggling lewis are playing the two forward spots.

Currently, it's Dwight

Currently, it's Dwight Howard. If Yao returns, it's him. He was the best before he was injured.

Dwight is right

even if Yao comes back healthy I think Howard is still the best. He is so quick, explosive and powerful that he matches up well with any center out there.

perhaps howards the best D center

I think if were talking overall game, Its Ming hands down. Howard has zero offensive game. He cant even beat Perkins one on one. He is a garbage man Offensively against other centers he cant physically push around. Smaller centers he just outmuscles or out jumps them but he has one move only with one variation. Its that god awful jump hook and sometimes he spins quickly first before chucking it up there. His free throws are still terrible. He is a liability late in games. The celtics decided to play him straight untill he gets close to the basket and then foul him when he gets close enough to dunk without a real shot at an AND1. Its a sound strategy. Howard has NO game on one side of the court.

Ming plays both sides very well. Shoots awsome from everywhere. Has a good offensive repitore. This isnt ven a real conversation. Mings only real flaw other then being injured all the time is he moves fairly slow. Its ok to be a touch slow when you have a 6-10 inch reach and length advantage on every other player in the NBA though.

When Bynum is healthy

When Bynum is healthy I think he is the best overall C in the league. Just look at his stats when he is healthy, he pretty much dominates. And if youve ever seen him going against D Howard, he makes Howard look small.

tough call

i think dwight is prob the most DOMINANT center but the best i still have a thing 4 yao ming. i mean Yao can score, rebound and defend the paint. He passes well and the most important thing of all ......he hits his FREE THROWS! You can go 2 yao at then end of the game becuz u can get u a bucket in clutch situations. i dont feel dwight is even close 2 being able to be a player who gets baskets 4 u at the end of a game. and i dont like the Noah and horford being considered as centers becuz they are not. They are natural 4's and u hear about it all the time. They are havin to play the center position 4 their teams and they do a great job but thats not their positions.

Center has become the weakest

Center has become the weakest position in the NBA...its a sad sad thing to see being a post player.

Howard is probably the best Center in the NBA...but not by as much as people think. Even though before this series I'm sure everybody wouldve said Howard no doubt. His offensive game still hasnt developed much. He has an ok jump hook, and an explosive first step, but he doesnt have much of a go to move, and a counter game. He has a hard time manufacturing his own offense because his post game simply isnt very refined. Who knows if it ever will be, but if it can be, man he could be a monster. He's already the best player in the NBA without the ball in his hands.

I think there a couple guys that are getting overlooked though.

1. Chris Kamen...solid 17 to 20 ppg guy, good offensiv skill set with good post moves and solid elbow j...good rebounder and decent defensive player. Very underrated being on the Clippers team

2. Brook Lopez...Only in his 2nd season and already showing the ability to be a 20 and 10 guy for years...very good low post scoring ability, go to moves, good counter moves, good face up game on the block , and an improving mid range jumper. I dont know how good defensivly he is, but he's known as a good shotblocker from what I hear. I think he could be the best offensive Center in the NBA if he keeps improving like he's shown, and If Yao doesnt make a full recovery.

3. Marc Gasol...Not a dominant Center, but certainly a very solid one and pretty underrated. I think he averaged about 14 and 8 this past season. He's a good passer, solid mid range game, pretty fundamentally sound. Big solid body. He's a guy who I could see jumping up into the top tier of Centers in the near future...especially if Memphis keeps improving as a team and he gets noticed more.

re: who is the best center in the league

Best offensive center is Yao. Footwork, jumper, touch.. and for the fantasy basketball players.. ft% is huge.

Best defensive center & overall best center is dwight.

I'd put Bogut #3. He really showed what he could do last yr, and that's enough for me to put him there. He can use either hand on the block, has great footwork, he's athletic, and he's an legit defensive presence.. (IMO, the best other than dwight).

For centers, he was 6th in ppg, 4th in rpg, 2th in bpg, and averaged almost two apg.

Its Dwight Howard by default.

Its Dwight Howard by default. NBA lacks great Centers now a days. I can remember the 90's when David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaq O'Neil, and even Rik Smits were all in their prime and playing against each other. Now that era is gone.

With Yao history with

With Yao history with injuries I think the only 2 Centers that can compete with Howard for the best Center in the league are Bogut&B.Loopez
there are some other good players at this position like Bynum,Kaman,R.Loopez,Noah M.Gasol etc
but for now Howard is still the best

I don't think Noah deserves

I don't think Noah deserves to be in the discussion of top 5 centers in the league. The guy performed well in the playoffs this year, but his best season in the NBA has been 10.7 pts/game and 11 boards, which is solid, but it's only one season. Guys I would put ahead of Noah:

Marc Gasol
Dwight Howard
Al Jefferson
Brook Lopez
Bogut
Kaman
Yao
Bynum

On a side note, I would like to see what Gortat could do if given starter minutes.
