I’m piggy backing off the last question posted..

Who have you played against, rather it’s HS, pick-up, college, etc. and your thoughts on them…

1.Kwame Brown (HS) dude was just a beast because he was just so bigger then everyone..

    2. Lou Williams (pick up ball)-Has a very quick first step, was very cocky..he was very young at the time.

    3. Joddie Meeks (pick up ball)-he could stroke the ball, him and Lou were going head to head

    4. Gerald Wilkins (Pick up ball) He was a very big and athletic dude, kept stopping the game to coach us younger guys, we appricaited it.

5.Damian Wilikins (Pick up ball) I don’t think he missed a 3, glad he was on my team.

    6. Nick Young (Pick up ball) He was the first, played agianst him at the park all the time in middle school…this dude was like 6’6 and eight grade dunking on everybody..people pick on him for "swag" but dude really is kind of slow in real life..but was a nice kid growing up.

    7. Eddie Jones (pick up ball) might of been the most quiet person I’ve ever played against..

I’ve played against Steve Nash, Connie Hawkins, Raja Bell, and a few other Suns/former Suns at basketball camps. It was a camp setting for little kids so it obviously was nothing crazy. As an adult, I haven’t had a chance to hoop with too many NBA players but have played pick up against a couple of NFL players.

We walk into the gym and he lis of names. My friend and I go to put our names for next and we see Donovan McNabb’s name on the list. My friend thinks it’s a joke, scratches D Nabb’s name off and writes his. D Nabb ACTUALLY walks in lol. He asks some guy if he put his name of the list and the guy nods his head. D Nabb goes to check the list and sees his name scratched out. “Who scratched out my name? Who’s…. Anthony?.. I like you Anthony, you on my team!” Lmao my friend was scared shitless for a second. I forgot that D Nabb had hooped in college, and you definitely could tell. He had handle, could shoot, and a great bball IQ.

I also hooped with Legarrette Blount a couple of times. I didn’t know it was him until a couple days later and our friend was talking about how crazy it was that we hooped with Legarrette Blount lol. He’s BIG AS HELL. Like I thought he was just some muscle head dude who was just trying to get cardio in after a workout. Definitely put into perspective how beastly NFL players are. Dude is a running back but at first glance you’d legit think he was a defensive end. He was OK, didn’t do too much. You could tell he didn’t want to get hurt.

I also played against McNabb in pickup games and intramurals at Syracuse.  He and some of the other football players (Keith Bullock, Roland Williams) had an intramural team.  McNabb was really good and a real down to earth dude.  I remember an interview Boeheim once gave where he said if McNabb concentrated on basketball he could have been one of the top 5 players to play at the Cuse.

As far as playing against actual NBA players, I got to play against Jason Hart, John Wallace, Etan Thomas.

I’ve played against Brad Beal at an AAU tournament, he’s a bit older than me. He talked a lot…Malcolm Brogdon was older than me as well but have seen him play at workouts. Jeremy Lamb is signficantly older than me, but a nice guy who I said hello to when we had a big workout of all age groups.

Jordan Adams from UCLA who was in the league for a minute or might still be?

There are a slew of other guys who I thought for sure would make it to the league and didn’t. Wild.

I played against both Chris Paul and pj Tucker at a high school AAU tournament once. Paul was very unremarkable physically but his handle and quickness were unbelievable. I had no idea who he was at the time. Tucker was a beast physically. Built like a linebacker and impossible to keep off the boards. Strictly a post player back then. His outside game didn’t develop until much later.

I also played against jr Smith in high school. Easily the most naturally talented guy I’ve ever played against. Freakish athlete. I always thought he kind of underachieved in the nba, despite the fact he’s had a solid overall career.

I played against al Harrington once at a basketball camp as a kid. He wasn’t trying very hard but was a very nice guy. This was probably 1-2 years before he got drafted.

Malachi Richardson used to work out at the gym I went to and I played pick up ball with him a few times. Granted I was much older and didn’t actually talk to him or anything. Had a nice shot and good size and athleticism but didn’t really strike me as a future nba player at the time.

There’s a bunch of fringe nba guys that I’ve competed against in one form or another over the years but nobody else really recognizable I can think of.

Played against Danny Green in HS. He was the best player in Long Island at the time by a long shot, and his team who also featured Danny’s brother, Rashad, who played D1 at Manhattan and USF, was the best team in our conference by far. First play of the game he stole the ball from by friend at half court and proceeded to do a 360 dunk on the other end. We still never let him hear the end of that. I think they beat us by about 60 when all was said and done.

Tobias Harris (In HS) the most notable player I’ve hooped against. Was young at the the time, but already knew who he was and that he was likely league bond considering his family ties and having George Gervin as a godfather.

Another guy I was suprised by was Scotty Hopson (Think he only had a cup of tea in the NBA). Played against him in pick up ball him freshman year at Tennessee, believe he was McDonald’s AA. He was filthy in pick up setting.. Good athlete tight handle. Ridiculous range not sure why he didn’t stick in the league.

David West, Ansu Sesay, Eldridge Recasner, Phil Davis (drafted, never played), Horace "Helicopter" Jenkins. Ryan Hollins.

Most of the guys I run with (ran, mostly…I’m getting old) were overseas pros who would come back for the offseason and run locally. Occassionally one of their boys who had made it would come out. When he was young, David West was a monster. Impossible to guard as whatever big guy you had would be about 25-30 lbs in the hole. Horace was amazing. I played often against him before he came close to the league. If you guys don’t know his story then look it up. One of the most amazing, improbable NBA stories ever.

Jarred Bayless – He played at my rival highschool and our teams met 6-8 times. My team lost every time and he must have averaged 40+. Thought he would have had a better NBA career.

James Harden – Played at rec center with him at ASU. Will never forget when he rolled up wearing crocs and was dunking on everyone. He was great but never expected him to be MVP. I thought Bayless was more impressive

Also had the chance to play with Kurt Warner and Donavan Mcnabb in some pick up games. Both are great ball players. Kurt is an unbelievable mid-range shooter and Mcnabb has a great feel for the game. Got a chance to play with Vontaze Burfict in pick up but his game wasnt memorable besides him dunking on my good friend pretty hard. Played with Michael Bush in a rec league game and his athleticism stood out and had impressive touch/feel for game.

Arizona connect. You must’ve went to Brophy. I never played against JB but I’ve seen him play in person numerous times. I’m with you on the thought that he’d be a better player. I though he’s be what Damian Lillard is right now. He’s in the D league but Nick Johnson was another ridiculous guy who I thought would be better. We played their Premier team one summer during AAU and my teammate went up for a lay up.. Nick just jumps straight up, hands at his side, blocks it with his &$#%#&@! chest, comes down with the ball, sprints down for a NASTY windmill. I grew up with Alan Williams as well.

Thats cool. Went to Horizon. At the time St. Mary’s was in our division. I agree I thought Bayless would be a 20+ scorer like Lillard or Arenas. Never saw Nick Johnson play is HS but heard he was pretty nasty.

Played against Shaq once. Completely destroyed him: I was too big, too quick, and way too powerful. He said to me: ‘Bro, you should come down to LA, you could play on my team, the Fakers (or maybe "Makers", I don’t quite remember)". I declined: I was already 42 at the time. Still happy I whipped his ass back then, though.

I played against Peja Stojakovic in a pick up game in Greece. He killed me, kept shooting over my head… Best shooter I have ever seen.

I also played against Bargnani in a friendly game in Italy. He was one of the talented players I had ever seen, but he was soooooo soft… He scored 35 points and grabbed 1 rebound I think!

You must be from the LA area, I take it? My cousin is from there, and has played pick-up ball a few times with both Jamie Foxx and Adam Sandler.

My cousin was a JUCO college quarterback and was thought of to be NFL-bound before a string of concussions and a diabetes diagnosis got in the way, so he’s a pretty big dude, and Foxx calls him "shoulders" whenever he sees him. Also, apparently Sandlers is a HUUUGEEEE trash talker.

Yeah, I’m kinda surprised this many people have played against pros. Just by sheer probability, there’s got to be at least one or two people lying in this thread.

I’ve played against several NBA players. I’m sure I’ll miss some.

Harrison Barnes, Blake Griffin, James Harden, Baynes, Klay Thompson, Bradley Beal, Draymond Green, KJ McDaniels, Eric Bledsoe, JaMychal Green (one of my best friends still), DeMarcus Cousins, Derrick Favors, Jimmy Butler, Gordon Hayward, Kemba Walker (lost to him in the Peach Jam Championship Game. Quickest player I’ve ever seen.), Shelvin Mack, Greg Monroe, Patrick Patterson (Probably the toughest player I faced, he was extremely physical.) Ed Davis, Vic Oladipo, Demarre Carrol, Isaiah Thomas (He gave us 31), Chandler Parsons, Al Farouq Aminu, DeAndre Liggins, Tyler Zeller. It’s probably a whole lot more. This is just off the top of my head.

I played on a pretty good Nike Team and played some of those guys in college.

Matisse Thybulle…current UW senior. Incredible athlete…I’ve never seen anyone in person rise up and dunk the ball with ease like he does. He was crossing guys left and right on the court, but at UW he’s still more of a spot-up guy…Goes to show the level of talent when you go D1 vs. pickup game at 24 hour fitness

Gilbert Arenas, pick up game in LA when he was attending Arizona.  He threw the ball off the backboard to himself and dunked it, dang,we loved it.  He was constantly doubled but his handle was tight and he easily dribbled through and split traffic.  I recall his range was easily 30 feet.

I’m 24 from Richmond, VA, played against some of the best to come through here recently in high school.  Not many guys that have been succesful in the league (Mike Gbinije, Andrew White, Robert Johnson, soon to be Jalen Hudson/Kenny Williams)  Best guy I probably ever faced though was Melo Trimble, he was a 6’1 sophmore at O’Connell who no one knew about before the game – made 30 points look easy and eliminated us from the state tournament. Not sure if he’s an NBA athlete but man he can fill it up

I played with Clint Capela, super long and athletic but that’s pretty much it (his brother is a "friend" of mine), Thabo Sefolosha not that impressed, always had the "I made it to the NBA now i don’t need to improve anymore" mentality.

Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot and I played in the same club but he was way younger (He was 12 and I was 16yo) he was already really advanced, and tall compared to other french players and I knew he could be something special back then. I remember we used to play outside, even though he broke his left wrist or something, he was still playing haha.

I hope he has a chance to shine in OKC!
