I’m seldom right on these types of predictions…… but I find this inevitable trade super interesting for several reasons. The first is Jimmy’s contract status. Will teams outside of his wish list deal for him without the gaurantee that he’ll re-sign? I think several will make strong offers to support this notion.

Personally, I think Jimmy’s headed to the Clippers. The obvious question is though, what will LA give up to grab him? Could LA elect to stand pat & try to get him for free next offseason? Minnesota would likely want to include Gorgui Dieng’s 17mill per year contract with him, but that will make it very difficult for LA to sign a 2nd max free agent next offseason.

    *Dark horse teams that were not on his wish list, that I think have a decent chance are;

Miami Heat – They will have to include Richardson or Bam to get a deal done though…

Milwaukee Bucks – Maybe include Middleton….. but that’s super risky for the Bucks since Jimmy could bolt next season & Khris is under contract for a while longer. This would be quite similar to the Toronto / Spurs deal

Portland Trailblazers – Would CJ McCollum have to be included? Unlikely Jimmy stays though unless Portland makes it to the conference finals

Denver Nuggets – Maybe roll the dice & include Gary Harris? I like Harris though, and his timeline better matches this current Nuggets team. But Butler is just a better player

Washington Wizards – Maybe package Otto Porter & Troy Brown. Love it or hate it….. this would make the Wiz interesting in the East

I don’t think he ends up in the Clippers. He may end up in the East

I could see Houston at least trying to get involved somehow. Adding butler to the mix would seem to put them in better position to take down the warriors. Getting an actual deal done would be challenging though. It would probably require them giving up both Gordon and Tucker, which would leave them with a very thin bench rotation. Still a cp3/harden/butler/Carmelo/capela starting 5 seems very formidable on paper. It’s probably a longshot but I wouldn’t rule it out.

I think he’ll get traded to the east, MN trade him to the Nuggets or Clippers and it’ll hurt thier playoff chances.

& where he can get a Max contract & where selling Tickets & filling seats is paramount & winning is not the most important priority to Ownership

Butler puts up Big #’s on Low Seeds & Lottery teams & when you dig deeper you see he is dependant on running Iso’s to generate those #’s & he is Not efficient

We hear constant complaints from Butler about younger Teammates – well how about showing Leadership & setting a great example to bring a team together. In 2 seasons in 2 different Locker Rooms in Minnesota & Chicago w/ young talented Teammates, Butler has been accused of tearing the Chemistry apart, Dividing the Locker room down the middle & Publicly criticizing younger teammates – even though he’s approaching 30, Butler does not seem to have learned any lessons

Rajon Rondo openly confronted Butler in Chicago for failing to show Leadership & guide / teach young teammates rather than throw them under the Bus —- Rondo can be controversial but no one has ever accussed him of failing to be a good teammate – a Leader & being All about the Team

The wolves can send Butler anywhere they want.  The difference in a 4 or 5 year contract is about 5o million dollars.  He won’t leave and sign just a 4 year contract because he’ll be 34 years old and he will no longer be a franchise type player . That being said, the Wolves are in a much better bargaining position than is being reported.

I’d figure the T-Wolves would want to move him East so out of his three prefered options – Nets and Knicks would make sense. I just don’t see the Nets doing anything with their own first rounder next year and they might want to keep Jarrett Allen. Whether they would put Russell into play and would T-Wolves be interested I don’t know. They do have some nice expiring deal which could be used in the trade.

Knicks could offer Frank N who Thibs may like and Kanter has a nice expiring deal or add Noah for Dieng and throw in a future NY first rounder.

Philly have a great young core and might like Butler but would his attitude be a negative for Elton Brand and would he risk this deal so early in his tenure. If they could keep Fultz and Saric then maybe give it a whirl with a deal built around Covington, Smith and future pick or stashed assets.

Miami could appeal to Butler but do they have assets to offer.

Boston I don’t think gets involved, Bucks likewise. Pacers have assets but would Pritchard risk a guy like Butler on his roster?

There are rumours that Kemba wants to extend at Charlotte – might MJ allow his team to make a splash?

Toronto would make sense and it could be lowish risk plus teaming up with Kawhi could appeal to Butler.

Detroit have a powerhouse frontcourt so might they swing for the fences but they traded their pick this year and may not want to give another pick away.

My darkhorse is Dallas. I’m not sure if they’d want to do it after already having their media day, but a Harrison Barnes and Dwight Powell for Jimmy Butler and Gorgui Dieng. It’d give them a chance to take the focus off the whole business side scandal and Cuban. They’d get a true star, he’s close with Deandre and Wes, and he’s from Texas. I think they’d have a good chance to convince him to stay. He’d have 2 young running mates in DSJ and Luka that are only gonna get better but Jimmy would still be the guy for now.

Would Dallas give up Barnes I wonder but he is a Thibs type player and Dieng and Jordan are a good frontcourt plus Dallas want to minimize the value of the pick they could send to Hawks so I could see them doing the deal for this reason.

Rick Carlisle is a top level coach and had that hot headed Pacers team so would know how to handle a guy like Butler. Who they would play at SG and SF out of Butler and Doncic could be interesting.
