So I came across a link to this article at work today, thought it was a pretty interesting idea.

    http://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/where-ben-simmons-and-brandon-ingram-rank-vs-recent-top-nba-draft-prospects/

Then I got to thinking, I kind of want to make my own. So here is challenge to everyone, make your own list based off of the rules of the article. Basically rank your top 20 prospects over the last 11 drafts. Feel free to include explinations or not, hoping this should be a good topic for debate! I’ll be adding my own list to this thread shortly

Based on the prospect they were on draft night?  Makes a big difference when including Oden, and people like Curry, and PG weren’t as highly thought of predraft

Yes, this only looks at the prospects before they were drafted, otherwise it would just basically be a list saying, Hey, lets just rank the top 20 players in the NBA from the last 11 drafts

Greg Oden- Was supposed to be the next great big man. Myself being a huge Texas and KD fan, I still would’ve taken Oden 1st in that draft and any since.

Kevin Durant- Born scorer, size/shooting/handle combination he was basically a guaranteed perrenial all-star.

Derrick Rose- I saw him play one HS game his senior year. Came to school the next day & told all my friends “he’ll be the best PG in the league within 5 years” Only took him 3 to win MVP. Shame the injuries derailed his trajectory.

Anthony Davis- Won it all his freshmen year. Outstanding defensive instincts, reminded me of a young KG.

Blake Griffin- Freak athlete who played all out whenever he was on the floor. Showed flashes of being a good passer/playmaker for others.

John Wall- Still the fastest player I’ve ever seen live. Elite finisher in the open court who also can set people up with the best of them. On the brink of averaging 20 & 10 as I expected he eventually would.

Andrew Wiggins- Another freak athlete. 20 ppg scorer with ease. Improving handle and jumper, sky is the limit for him.

DeMarcus Cousins- Monster in the post offensively, beast on the glass, skilled passer. Only question was his temper.

LaMarcus Aldridge- Faceup 4 with great touch and solid footwork in the post. Had future 20 point scorer written all over him. Has only gotten more unguardable as he’s added strength over the years

Joel Embiid- Late bloomer who started to look like a future two-way force at the C spot. Still hasn’t played an NBA game.

Karl Anthony Towns- Overall skills were hidden thanks to the Kentucky platoon. Killed it in pre-draft workouts and outplayed his entire rookie class by a pretty wide margin.

Ben Simmons- While lots of people seem to be down on him, I still see a special talent who is going to be great in this league. Great playmaker from the forward spots, will create matchup problems from day 1.

Michael Beasley- Outdid all of KD’s already crazy freshmen #’s. Never learned the team game or how to rotate defensively, but the guy can get buckets and offensive boards

James Harden- Had an old man’s game coming out of college but a prototypical 2 guard skill set. Helped OKC take the league by storm, but had superstar ambitions that didn’t align with the team’s vision. Now arguably the best scorer in the league for Houston.

Jahlil Okafor- Came into the league with an advanced post game not seen at such a young age since Al Jefferson. Might have a similar career path as it’ll be hard to win big with him as a first option.

Jabari Parker- Polished offensive game from the midrange and in. Only question are his body and position long-term.

Kyrie Irving- Barely played in College, but the scoring instincts were evident. Finishes well at the rim, elite handle and shot creating ability.

OJ Mayo- Was touted as the next Kobe by some, but he peaked early (was older than his HS class) I’m not surprised his pro career turned out the way it has. He was above average to good at a lot offensively, but not great at anything and didn’t have the speed or explosiveness to be a great at his position in the league.

Kevin Love- One of the smartest players I’ve seen for a college freshmen in this era. Could rebound, pass, and get deep post position. Lost weight and added a 3pt shot once he got to the league and became a great offensive player as a result.

Brandon Roy- Complete combo guard who played at his own pace and was always in control. Great in P&R, iso, and playing off the ball. Fell to 7 in his draft because of questions about his knees which ended up cutting his career short.

I dont wanna sound homo, but I been following Simmons on IG and he already looks like hes shed some fat and added some muscle. Saw some shooting drills…smoother action but still bad form and late release.

And I been keeping up with Ingram and he looks like hes mostly been working on skills because his build hasnt changed much. Plus since hes been in Makers training camp (who actually lost weight), im starting to think that crew hasnt been hitting the weights at all.
