I had an idea for Lin and where he is next year, a backup guard on Mid-Level money for a contender, but then I thought maybe he would be someone to work with a lottery-pick point guard.  Lin could be Mudiay’s mentor.  Lin has been there and done that, being the media focus and under plenty of pressure, so having him around a new point guard drafted in the lottery could be beneficial for them.

The last draft also has young point guards who could use a veteran, with the Celtics, Jazz and Magic using high picks on point guards.

Back to the contender idea, the Warriors will need to spend money this offseason and if they can add Lin it could make their strong bench even stronger.  Financially, Lin would do plenty ofr the Warriors so even with some luxury tax added he would not be a bad player to get.  Barbosa is a free agent, Livingston has a history of injuries, Holiday is a good player too, but they could find a spot for Lin.

Thunder, Grizzlies, if they don’t bring back their backup point guards maybe Lin would be good for them too.  Houston need point guard help, would Lin be signed by the Rockets a third time?  The Bulls, Rose and Hinrich do miss a lot of games and Lin could be useful.

It doesn’t look like the Lakers will keep him around,

I’d like to see Lin join the Twolves. This may be fan based, but I think Rubio and Lin would be a great on the same team. Lin could come in for the 2nd unit and run the 2nd unit great, it’s something the Wolves are missing for sure is a PG for their bench to run that unit. I believe PG’s are quarterbacks of teams and Wolves seem to only have one and that’s Rubio right now, and he could really use Lin for when he needs a breath or just some help in general. Plus I think their personalities as point guards would mesh great.

Mudiay won’t need a mentor. This is a player coming out of a professional league who has a strong feel for the game and the PG role. The only thing Mudiay will need is playing time, he will find his way in the league no problem with games under his belt. That’s all he needs.

As for Lin, who knows! He probably needs a team with a strong identity where he can be a solid role player.

i think his contract is going to go way down to the $3M/year range.  i’d think that there a few contenders that would look for backup pg with his experience.  pelicans, thunder and bulls would seem to be in the market.  pelicans need a backup to the point that tyreke evans is now playing pg (which actually seems like a better fit for him than sg/sf).  thunder are likely to move jackson.  bulls love scoring pgs off the bench.

I predict he’ll be playing in China or somewhere else out of the league within 2 years. He had an amazing run a few yrs ago and it propelled him to a pretty decent career for someone who was undrafted and almost completely off the radar. The problem is that he has been completely figured out by NBA defenses now and hasn’t adapted his game. He does some things very well, but overall his game is too predictable and his confidence has taken a huge hit. He still makes fundamental mistakes regularly like jumping in the air to pass and failing to read the defense correctly on a 3-1 break that are completely unacceptable for a veteran NBA pg. He definitely won’t be back with LA. He might be able to squeeze out one or two more yrs with another team on a vet min salary but my guess is that his NBA days are numbered, especially with the overall talent at the pg position in the league nowadays.
