Where is the best fit for Carmelo?

Wassup guys. I'm new to the site, or at least the forum part. I read everybody's posts and I couldn't help it anymore. I had to start posting. Anyways, forget about me, let's talk about Melo.

I know you're all just as tired as I am about this Melo talk, but its the biggest thing going on in the leauge right now. And besides, we're all curious. This could change how things play out in the playoffs for many years to come depending on the team he goes to.

Where do you think is the best fit for Melo? Concerning his style of play, talents, attitude, etc. and why? & I'm talking about the listed teams that he could be traded to or signed to...includes the Knicks, Mavs, Lakers, Rockets, Nets & anyone else I missed.

I think he should stay

I think his best fit is with the Nuggets. I say that and I am a Bulls and Laker fan (both of whom have been brought up in Melo talks). I don't like him on the Bulls as I think their priority should be SG. He would be a decent fit in NYC and LA, but I think the best spot for him is where he is at.

The Best Fit is the Lakers.

The Best Fit is the Lakers.

The most likely fit is the Knicks. The Knicks are probably giving up Mozgov, Chandler, Felton and a 1st rounder. That's actually a steal when you look at it like this:

The Knicks are gonna have Douglas, Fields, Melo, Amare, Turiaf. They are gonna bring in Earl Barron after this deal is done, Mason moves up and gets the backup PG time or they find another PG in FA who can run ( any NBDL ideas?) and they STILL have a 1st round pick in the 2011 draft. So whatever they misplace, they can readd. Imagine the Knicks getting someone like Kemba Waker or Jordan Williams or Malcolm Lee or LaceDarius Dunn next season and throw them next to Melo, Amare and a 2nd season Fields....could make noise.

@knicksboy

If the Knicks are thinking long term and thinking they can land Chris Paul or Deron Williams, then yeah it definitely is a steal....... I think that is one of the things they are thinking about with their offer(s) and what kind of marquee free agents they can get in the future.

i feel that if the knicks can

i feel that if the knicks can keep gallo and still acquire melo it would definately have to be the knicks... they way that offense would run double teams would be commanded in so many positions that the knicks shooters would have a field day..

Dallas

In Dallas, Melo would automatically find himself in a top five market on a legitimate championship contender and with a 3 year $65M extension in his pocket. He gets four shots at a title playing with two future HOFers and the best bench in the league until he's 30. At this point he should be in his prime looking for another huge contract, but this time he'll actually be a free agent with the ability to choose where he goes and not worry about losing ~$30M.

It would take a real miracle for Dallas to pull off the deal with their cap issues and lack of assets, but you gotta think if any owner has the juice to get it done it's Cubes. They would have to find one or two playoff teams looking to address a specific roster need and are willing to toss Denver their late 1st to do it.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=4j4v7h6

This could work, with Denver getting 3-4 late 1sts, a starter with an expiring deal and two soph point guards (assets) to sit beside the better one they already have. Atlanta gets the quality backup pg they were looking for in Duhon and give up a 1st + Teague, who isn't working out anyways, to get him. Orlando gets a legit backup center for a 1st and two players who haven't seen the floor since they got Arenas. Dallas gets Carmelo, nuff said.

As far as New York is concerned it seems to be what Carmelo wants but I don't necessarily think it's what's best for him. Obviously the idea of moving him and his wife back to their native NYC is the best fit for his personal life, but ideally he should be making a basketball decision here instead of one predicated on his social life. If he wants to treat this as a personal decision and make his priorities his family then that's honorable, but he should be compensated for a personal decision and not a business decision by taking less money and signing as a free agent. Also with Melo seeking that $65M max contract they would have no shot at signing CP3 in 2012. I never really understood how people thought they could afford him in a post lockout CBA with Melo and Amare taking the max deals that Miami's big 3 had to turn down.

If Melo lands in New York,

If Melo lands in New York, New Jesey, or Houston, those teams still have no chance of winning a championship. It may look nice on paper if he goes to the Knicks or Nets but realisticly they arent ready for winning. If he goes to the Mavs,or Lakers even thou I feel the Lakers rumours were false and just bait to make New York up the ante then he has a chance of a legitimate title run. Dallas has been waiting for this type of legitimate finsher at the wing. Cuban has been talking about beng mixed up in "renting" Carmelo then later enticing him into staying in Dallas. I think the only way he goes to Dallas is if noone else gives a real good offer, Denver should trade him though.

Maybe not the bestt fit for

Maybe not the bestt fit for Melo, but outside of the places he is considering the Bucks would be pretty good in my opinion. Jennings is more playmaker than scorer, despite the 55-point game, but he has to score for the Bucks to be competitive. Melo and Jennings would benefit from this arrangement, and Bogut is that big bruising C that would serve Melo well too. I can see those guys taking a run up the standings in a hurry if he signed as a free agent.

Alas it's not to be, but I can't help but feel he'd be a good fit with the Bucks.

Never thought of that but yah

Never thought of that but yah that would be a great fit. You would even have Gooden in the high post, could trade Sanders, CDR, Maggette, Draft Picks or something, and ,aybe still have Salmons off the bench. Even as a rental that wouldnt be bad.

If the Knicks can hold out

If the Knicks can hold out then wait until the summer and add Melo to the existing roster, draft a young piece, maybe add one more veteran FA and they would have serious depth. One of Chandler, Fields or Gallinari just drops to the bench and becomes 6th man and plays around Melo. If they end up at over .500 this season then adding Melo should make them a legit 50 win team.
