What's Wrong With The Grizzles?

It's well aware that heading into the 2009-2010 season, the Memphis Grizzles main focus is being more defensive oriented and being mor tough minded...Potentially adding Zach Randolph & Allen Iverson, isn't the way to go..Why bring in two players known for causing chemistry issues and hogging the ball, to a young team with players that still need to develop, such as Darrell Arthur, Marc Gasol, Mike Conley, and etc...Plus having those gunners on the team, is going to take away from the offensive growth of Rudy Gay and OJ Mayo...Dumb Dumb moves

grizz

just read today that they were dead last in attendance with 7,500 fans per game. That's less then some wnba teams get. They are in serious trouble and probably are focusing more on selling tickets then anything else. But you are right, Randolph and Iverson are not the way to go for a rebuilding team.

Wow.. only 7500 fans per

Wow.. only 7500 fans per game, that is awful. Iverson would help sell tickets. A one year deal for him isn't that bad. Trading for Randolph was really stupid tough. Well it looks like Memphis is going to have a lot of cash to spend next offseason. The problem is they often don't spend money even though they have it. Also most of the better free agent don't want to play for Memphis. The only way this team can continue proving is through the draft.

Randolph & Iverson

It could work but only in a economic stance. A.I. and Randolph can more than possibly put some fans in seats. But if you looking to continue to develop this team i think its the wrong way to go

Maybe its just me...

...but Allen Iverson being on the Grizzlies team wouldn't be the reason I would ever go watch them play. I think Gay and Mayo are more exciting players than Iverson.

Can anyone tell me how A.I. would attract more fans? To me, he just doesn't seem like the type of player that could help increase a team's attendance woes.

Even if for some reason A.I. (and Randolph) somehow increase the attendance, I would think the Grizzlies would continue to lose a great amount of games and thus the attendance goes back down. Once again, Iverson, IMO, does not have that star power anymore.

Iverson is a household name.

Iverson is a household name. No one else on Memphis is, that is why it would raise attendence.

Iverson

I love AI but he is not in any way what Memphis needs. Charolette and AI are a match made in heaven IMO.

People would actually buy

People would actually buy Grizzlies merchandise if Iverson was here.

Grizzlies out of NBA

Do you think if the Grizzlies continue to lose attendance, they could be removed from the NBA?

Grizzlies Relocate?

Do you think the Grizzlies might even relocate like the Sonics did to Oklahoma?

Well they have already

Well they have already relocated once, and they haven't been in Memphis for that long really. I think if they could ever put together a decent team Memphis would come out and support them.

I'm sure Seattle would love to steal them though

OJ Mayo

Will having these new players like Iverson and Randolph stunt Mayo's growth as a player, because I know that is why they traded Randolph away from the Clippers, so he wouldn't interfere with Blake's growth.

Iverson

Does Iverson still have a fan following? He seems to be over the hill and seems to be best at filling up the stat sheet on a losing team. I'm not even sure if he has much value merchandise wise, since his reputation seemed to have taken a big shot from his pistons stint.

thank you JCJ

That is exactly how I feel about Iverson. His stint in Detroit didn't help him at all and he is far past his days of being a go-to player on a solid team.

Like everyone else has been saying, Iverson will stunt the growth of the players around him, especially the ones who's minutes he will be taking. Grizz will continue to lose, then AI goes to the bench and will then start asking for a trade.

THEY LOST A LOT OF GAMES

THEY LOST A LOT OF GAMES LAST YEAR BECUZ THEY FELLED TO PLAY DEFENSE..I LOVE THE RANDOLPH MOVE.. THABEET IS VERY OVERRATED..DRAFTING YOUNG WHO REMINDS ME OF JAMES POSEY..AND CARROLL ENERGY IS WHUT THEY NEED..PLUS PLUS THEY TO ADD SOME OUTSIDE SHOOTERS..I EXPECT THEM TO BE A 7th or 8th seed...

draft

At least they had a pretty good draft, Sam Young and DeMarre Carroll are good young energy players to have coming off their bench, and Thabeet was worth the gamble i guess, they have Marc Gasol who if nothing else is 7' 280 and is a pretty good rebounder and should improve, and im not convinced Arthur will ever pan out, but Gasol could play some power forward if needed, they are a long way from the playoffs. David Lee, Drew Gooden, or Chris Wilcox would be good FA's for them to look into, they would fill the void at power forward and give them a little veteran leadership

so sad

It sucks because i love this team it has a pretty good solid nucleus of young players they just need like a super star to complete them. The team is pretty entertaining to watch with gay + mayo. The thing is this organization is not willing to spend money on a super star nor would any super star want to be a part of this organization. I guess in their eyes the best thing they can do is get the best available players no else really wants ala iverson/randolph. Its sad they couldnt make a stronger push for a solid PF like d.lee or millsap. Surrounding their stars mayo+gayo with strong role players like lee and millsap who wont take shots away from the two would of helped alot. They probably dont have a chance or wont even try in the 2010 free agency...I wish the best of luck to the Grizz they gonna need it =(.

grizzlies

First off I would like to say that where ever the attendance thing came from is wrong. We get at least 10,000 every game and I have never heard under that.

As for the team, nothing is done yet. AI hasn't signed and Randolph is still being worked out. For all I know Randolph might not come. Don't judge us until something is done and also I don't want Randolph but would be okay with AI.

period

Gasol - Thabeet
Randolph - arthur - carrol
Gay - warrick
Mayo - young
Conely - jaric

there's no reason to start thabeet over gasol. i trust gasol's experience and after the numbers he put up for a rookie...it would be a mistake to start thabeet over him. i say give thabeet 20 minutes a game.

some ya'll who want thabeet to start...just think about it...let's start an inexperience, turnover prone (limited offensive) defensive minded center OVER Gasol...who could avereage 14ppm along with 10rpg and 1+bpg? I'd like to be logical about things here....not fantasy league.

Warrik as a backup SF??? What are you talking about? Jaric as our backup PG again??? It should be this....

Thabeet-Gasol
Randolph-Arthur
Gay-Carroll
Mayo-Young
Conely-Williams

Thabeet should start just to balance things out but Gasol would be getting more of the minutes. PF is set. Gay starts and Carroll should be a very good backup. His defense is amazing and he can score. Mayo starts and Young be a good backup. Conely is the starter and get Marcus Williams to back him up.

so

as long as gasol gets more minutes than thabeet...then i'd be happy with it.

m. williams right? i was watchin him against okc yesterday.

and yes grizz32, warrick could do backup SF. at 6'9 and 220...that wouldn't be too hard for him. and trust me.. warricks a scorer and rebounder desperately needed off the bench.

Marcus Williams is

Marcus Williams is definitely better than Jaric.
Warrick can play SF easy if needed. I think the Grizzlies shouldn't even resign him though. They need to save their money for next seasons free agent market.
Arthur is better than Carroll. Carroll would struggle at SF, he needs to play PF.
Sam Young is not a SG, he needs to play SF.

The only thing the Grizzlies should get this offseason is a cheap bargain free agent backup SG.

sam young seems a bit undersized. but you make alot of interesting points and watch college ball more than i do, so i'll go with you about young.

the scary thing about letting warrick go..is he could go to a contender and do very good things. or he could go to a young rebuilding team, gain more minutes and turn out to develope real well.

if they do let warrick go...then they'll need a backup SG immediately with the slide of young to backup SF.

Young may be a little short

Young may be a little short for SF but he is very physcial & smart. He has a 6'11" wingspan so he can guard bigger forwards without much trouble.

I'm not sure how much Warrick is asking for. Anybody know? It seems the Grizzlies would be better off spending that money on a backup SG.

Even though I really like David Lee & Big Baby the Grizzlies have no reason to sign them now with the additions of Randolph & Carroll.

warrick

warrick could demand a mid level expection to the right team. a young rebuilding team with cap space.

If i knew i could get big baby...i'd use carrol as trade bait to any possible trading...

having randolph or big baby start would be cool to me either way.
