Didnt really watch USC much last season...or at all really, but I see that Nikola Vucevic averaged a double double, shot 50%, put up a block and a half per game, only 20 years old and tested as the tallest player at the combine, and second heaviest...so hes got legit NBA size.
Like I said, never really watched this kid, but for him to be seen as a mid-second rounder seems strange, is he soft? is he slow? is he too unathletic? Whats the Knock on this kid?
Pac-10 was a very weak conference last year. Other then that Im not sure, I never watched him last year either. He is on my watch list as players who could sneak into the 1st.
I haven't seen him play a lot, but held his own against the Morris twins this year. He's got a jump hook and can step out and shoot a bit. With his measurements, I think he's a really intriguing prospect.
Most definitely foot speed. The guy struggles mightily when he has to pop out and play the pick and roll defensively. He will just struggle having to run up and down the court. He’s suited for a slow paced half court offense, still though you can’t hide his defensive deficiencies as every big man has to be able to play the pick and roll on defense. Still though he has solid skills and great size, he’ll be a role player in this league. In the VCU game he struggled to even stay involved because of the pace of the game. In the NBA with superior athletes this worries me.
Sounds like an old Ilgauskas...ewww.
He's not an athlete. That's the only problem I see. He will have trouble as a pick and roll defender and he will need help in those situations by playing with a team that plays some smart team D. Other than that he's a very solid talent. Has a post game, isn't a bad decision maker, and he can face-up. He'll be a good C, at least a serviceable backup from what I've seen. He's a very underrated prospect.
Half the teams in the league dont even car about defense so he should be fine.
i see some similarity to Andrea Bargnani
kobyz, you obviously have never seen him play...Bargnani is very smooth, awfully skilled and a great outside threat. vucevic can shoot the 3 ball on occasion but hes very rigid, stiff, and unathletic. His nba comparison: Primoz Brezec
I've said in a previous thread that I see a lil Nenad Kristic in him, prior to the injuries when he was a high level C with the Nets. Vucevic obviously has a long way to go to get there, but I feel he has that type of potential. Can play with his back to the basket, has a solid number of moves on the block, and can play in the pick and pop game. I said back in like Dec he should be a top 15-20 pick, when he wasn't even in the '11 mock and caught a lot of flack for that. Although, I probably was admittedly a lil too high on him at that point, I feel like in a league now where Centers almost aren't asked to do much of anything besides just be a big body out there, he can be someone who develops into a solid player.
How can you say pac-10 was a weak conference if you admit to never watching?
TaylorConrdin, I really love that comparison, very similar to Brezec. Brezec actually at one point looked like he was going to become a really good player in Charlotte. Great in the international game as well.
I've been saying he's one of the most underrated players from the entire draft. A 7 footer who has a very good post game and nice touch from mid range and even 3pt range. He is a good rebounder either.
He is going to be a 1st rounder, draftexpress already has him projected at the 21 pick
