EndlessknightParticipantI keep seeing reports that the Lakers want to trade Clarkson but never hear what they expect in return. I realize they would like to dump salary thus ideally want only picks in return but can Clarkson command a 1st on the open market?

festar35ParticipantIt’ll be expiring contract(s) and maybe 2nd rounder(s) for him. This is not a reflection of his talent, but more so that teams know LA is simply trying to clear cap space so will try but him at a low price.
I think his best role is as a 6th man, he could a contender now and he is young enough to grow with a team who need a 6th man. Teams that make sense are Washington, OKC and NOLA. The things is none of which have the desired expiring contracts or cap space to absorb his contract.
Washington has Jason Smith and Jodie Meeks making $9mil combined, but both with player options. They could simply acquire them and not play them hoping they opt-out as not sure how much they are guaranteed.
Wizards get a legit 6th man scorer who can play with both Wall & Beal, potentially on occasions both of them.

treytalkssports.comParticipantHonestly, not much. He is a high usage, low-to-medium efficiency scorer. He can’t play off ball well. He can’t spot up well. He can’t play defense. In fact, he might be a bottom 20 defensive player in the NBA.
On that contract, he probably is a negative. You could argue Illyasova and Bellinelli are both more valuable players than Clarkson because of the way the NBA market values shooting. On top of that, expiring contracts are rare and therefore more valuable this year than most years.
If the Lakers want to get out of Clarkson’ contract, they’d have to include Randle or Nance just to start the conversations, and there might be seconds going to the other team as well.

Ahkasi ClayParticipantOk contract for a decent starter. Not good for a bench player on one of the worst teams in the league. Like Deng. You might have to give up a asset just to get rid youself of his contract (ok player.)

Andv1 WaitingParticipantTeams that could make a move for Clarkson to get you a pick:
Portland: Al Farq aminu and Noah vonleah + their own protected pick for Clarkson.
Cleveland:Derrick rose,Cedrick Cede,Channing and own their pick for Clarkson.
Bucks Delly + a protected pick from the bucks for Clarkson you save 2 mill per year, get a solid vet pg and get a pick..
But overall Clarkson is a hard one to fully commit to moving if he can actually buy into his role he could be a nice 6th man type player but the problem is he thinks he is a starter which on a contender I honestly don’t know if he is…Teams he could work on if you did it without going for a pick also though:
Knicks,Detroit,Pacers,Orlando,Clippers(without beverley that is) and maybe Toronto as he could spell Lowry possbly..I would maybe add OKC to but I don’t if I would want to ruin the chemistry they are finally starting to get…

kobyzParticipantHe is the ultimate six man, I compare him to Jamal Crawford with better shot selection…

Dr.RedParticipantA package of Clarkson and Randle could net a nice player, imo. Clarkson by himself, not so much. He has shown himself to be fairly inconsistent and inefficient. He has his moments, that is for sure, and I like him as a player, overall. But his contract for what he brings, I’d have to ask for some assets in return for taking on that contract.
