What is your best pick YOU ever "made" as a wannabe GM?

What is the best pick you knew would pan out that lasted until the 2nd round? What player were you screaming at the television for your team to get only to see them draft some bum who lasted 2 years before being shipped off for a conditional 2nd round pick, only to see the guy you wanted go on to make an All-Star team or 10?

I am not talking about a Pistons fan screaming for Melo or D Wade over Darko , I mean more of a late 1st or 2nd rounder who you just couldn't believe was still there, only to see your team pass on him.

I have a couple.

1. Michael Finley - Went to a high school 10 minutes from where I am sitting right now, and was drafted after the Bulls by the Phoenix Suns. Had 2 other members of his High School team drafted that year as well.

2. Carlos Boozer - Never understood why he wasn't rated higher, especially since the Bulls took so many other members of the late 90's - early 2000's Duke players like Brand, Jay Williams, Deng, and Duhon.. Especially when the Bulls were picking PF's for years before and after (like Lonny Baxter?!?)

3. Michael Redd - Watched him and Scoonie Penn light up the Big 10, couldn't understand why he, who was a great scorer, wasn't more highly coveted.

Monta Ellis - I have a lot of

Monta Ellis - I have a lot of family in Jackson, so I knew about this guy well before he came out in 05. I knew he'd be a prolific scorer even at this level.

Amir Johnson - he justt dominated LA City Section basketball for 2 years in a row. I knew he probably wasn't 1st round worthy, but I felt he'd carve out a nitche in the league & have a solid career once he got some playing time.

What was that all about? Maybe j_smoove isn't a poor kid at all. Maybe he eats brand name cereal, loads of bacon, and hates anything with buttermilk as the main ingredient.

I watched Monta Ellis in the

I watched Monta Ellis in the Nike Hoops Summit. He played well. Not sure why he fell.

Years ago I followed Nicky V at Cincy and knew he could play. I was surprised when Nick Van Exel fell into the second round, but he really had a great run in the league. First, with those highly entertaining Lake Show teams and then with the Mavs.

I wonder if there will be any 2nd round steals this year.

Rashard Lewis. Incredibly

Rashard Lewis. Incredibly skilled and talented big man, I rememeber him waiting in the Green Room for what seemed like an extremely long time. I thought he should have been drafted between picks 12-15 and he ended up falling into the second round.

I must admit, laughed at McHale about Mayo for Love!

Should probably he another topic all together. Which draft trade were you most wrong about. Mayo for Love? I know most Mavs fans would admit Tractor Traylor for Dirk they were wrong about. I was wrong in that I agreed with the Bulls on the Aldridge for Tyrus Thomas and Viktor Kryhapa. I thought, "Hey, we wanted Thomas anyway, plus we got another 1st round pick from a year or 2 ago AND we get to pay him a good chunk of change less on his contract!"

Of course, if the pick the Bulls got from Charlotte ends up being Top 5 in 2016 it might have been a GREAT trade on draft day!

I knew Mario Chalmers, and

I knew Mario Chalmers, and Luc Richard Mbah Moute would be steals.

I also knew Dwayne Wade would be a beast watching him at Marquette, and would be a beast.

I wouldve taken him over Darko.

I know Darko had tons of potentiol, and had a few good good games but he just wasnt that good at that point, give me a college player who dominated, and who you know his skills will translate in Dwayne Wade.

In the last draft, there were

In the last draft, there were three guys who I couldn't believe lasted as long as they did: Marshon Brooks, Jordan Hamilton, and Shelvin Mack. I thought all three should've been late lottery picks. The jury is still out on Hamilton and Mack but Brooks I nailed (as many of us did).

I was positive Jordan Crawford would be extremely productive as a scorer and couldn't believe some of the talentless bums who went before him that I sincerely doubt will amount to anything: Xavier Henry, Ed Davis, Elliot Williams, Dominique Jones, Quincy Pondexter...unbelievable.

When the Cavaliers took JJ Hickson in '08, I really wanted Serge Ibaka, DeAndre Jordan, or even Darrell Arthur or Donte Green. I hated Hickson's game and still do, but was probably wrong including Green in that group.

When Darius Miles went No. 3 overall, I laughed uncontrollably at the Clippers and guaranteed that Mike Miller would be a terrific NBA player, or at least way better than Miles.

I was admittedly happy when the Cavaliers selected DaJuan Wagner with the No. 6 pick in 2002 over Caron Butler and Amare. I really thought Wagner was going to be an explosive scorer, and I still think he would've been if it wasn't for injuries.

I have about 5 Players that i

I have about 5 Players that i was surprise went Late...

1.Carlos Boozer-I thought this guy would be a top 10 pick..But scouts felt he wasnt athletic enuff to guard anyone....And too short to play power forward..And Duke big men expect Elton Brand, never became nba all stars..So alot played into him not going 1st round...

2.Micheal Finley-I was suprise he lasted until the late1st round....I expected him to go lottery..He had length, athletic, nice wingspan, good ball handler...

3.Brad Miller-I thought he could be another Bill Laimbeer..He had a nice outside touch,he was tough and despite having a slender frame he wasnt afraid of contact.....

4.Jerome Jordan-Felt he should've been a late 1st round pick..I think he has a bright future..

5.Roy Hibbert-Yes he was still, but he blocks shots, could score inside and his size was a huge obstacle for teams to overcome..

Dejuan Blair for sure. Spurs

Dejuan Blair for sure. Spurs finally picked him and he has been great so far. Why not take a chance on the guy in the 2nd round? If he gets hurt you cut your losses and go, but if we stays healthy then its a steal.

I know Taylor

Josh Smith should have been the 6th pick for the hawks not Josh Childress.... and @ Costy LOL yea they drafted that steroid guy. Doesn't he remind u of a big ol Lou Diamond Phillips? Anywas on though. I thought anyone who drafted Ty Lawson would be a bargain. I'm a big North Carolina fan and followed Ty Lawson out of that High School Class of 2006. So Iknew how good he could be. He was a great leader, was really fast, sick handles, and a great playmaker. Yea he was injured a lot. Especially his sophmore year in college. And I knew that scouts would hang it ove rhis head but I knew if he got over it. That he'd be a great point guard for someone and it turned out to be the Nuggets.

I was high on Dajuan Wagner too...

...but he has had more than just injuries. He has a colostomy bag now, I think. That sucks for him, he even tried to come back after that with the Grizz but couldn't make it. He would have been a good 2nd scorer with LeBron in Cleveland. 100 point H.S. Game ain't too shabby.

Kevin Martin, Monta Ellis,

Kevin Martin, Monta Ellis, Tayshaun Prince, Serge Ibaka, Andrew Bynum, CJ Miles.

But to be fair I've definitely missed my fair share. After all, I was damn sure Rashad McCants was the second coming of Latrell Sprewell and that Ricky Sanchez actually had NBA potential.
