What the worst draft day trades of all time?
I say it when the Hornets traded Kobe Bryant to the Lakers for Vlade Divac .
the one i always remember was when the nuggs traded mcdyess to ny for camby, mark jackson and the sixth pick (nene). mcdyess went on to blow out his knee and only play 18 games for the knicks. camby went on to be defensive player of the year and nene is still a quality player.
its not the worst but remeber Gay for Battier, think about how good the Rockets could be
robert "tractor" taylor for dirk, hands down the worst trade ever.
He should have been # 1 that year...does anyone have that years draft list and prospect big board...one of the die hards gotta get on that...picture Kobe with that Hornets team that came after that trade...Baron/E.Jones/DC/PJ/R.Davis/E.Robinson/Wesley/Mashburn/ they were exiting and young Baron and young Kobe would have been sick...also the Sixers had to have had a top 10 pick that year...why they would not have sold their soul for a shot at Kobe baffles me to this day...for years I resented Kobe...I'm older and now resent the Sixers...SMH
I was SO pissed when the Wolves traded Brandon Roy for Randy Foye...
Kobe slid because his agent made it clear that it was Lakers and only the Lakers. So the draft pick than was essentially for a Lakers veteran and they preferred having Vlade over Peja, Nash and O'Neil.
trading kobe was maybe the worst because of the player he became but i think dirk for "the tractor" was also a monumental failure!!!
can´t bellive which players were taken ahead of kobe... look at pics 7-12 hahahaha!
It is not the worst but Tyrus Thomas for Aldridge still angers me as a Bulls fan.
thatguy--i would've agreed back then, but battier is way better for the way the rockets play than gay would've been...taking the best defender off of a defensive minded team and replacing him with a guy who turned out to be a pretty mediocre defender wouldn't have gone well
if the bucks didn't trade dirk for traylor, they would've just drafted traylor and let dirk fall to philly...instead they made the trade and got an extra player...
Dirk for Traylor
Gay isn't a hall of fame player and Battier isn't a bum either not as lopsided as you think.
How about Branden Wright for Jason Richardson. I know he didnt do much with the cats but he is doing great with the Suns
As a Blazers fan love being on the winning end of the Foye/Roy, and Thomas/Aldridge trades...
but for recent trades I have to go with Ray allen and Big Baby for Szczerbiak, Delonte West and Jeff Green. Boston gets a title, and Seattle eventually dumps West and Szcerbiak for Donyell Marshall, Ira Newble, and Adrian Griffin...leading to a series of seasons so bad that they move the team...now come on.
that jeff green trade also made it possible for them to land kevin durant. he also is a solid number 3 on a playoff team that should be considered a contender at the start of next season.
What was John Paxson thinking? I knew it from the start that LaMarcus was the NEED for the Bulls yet they traded him for Tyrus Thomas and Viktor Khryapa who is nothing more than a 12th Man on the roster in my eyes... I could've forgiven them because Tyrus has unbelievable potential and I gave the kid a chance but the way I look at it now, the Bulls made a mistake... They needed a big man with good offensive skills but they went for potential with a freakish athleticism... Why I thought Aldridge was the better fit? It's because they traded Eddy Curry who did a decent job when he was playing for the Bulls. I thought that Aldridge could replace Curry's role... Imagine a twin tower combo of Chandler and Aldridge... That would have been sweet... Well, the result is Aldridge averaged more points than Thomas and Khryapa can combine...
Aldridge --- 17.8 ppg 7.6 rpg
Thomas --- 6.8 ppg 4.6 rpg and Khryapa --- 3.6 ppg and 2.2 rpg
Aldridge produced more than what Thomas and Khryapa can combine for...
robert "tractor" taylor for dirk was as bad or even worse than Kobe IMHO
I mean we didn't just get Dirk but we added Nash too through this trade
how do you figure nash was added in that trade? He had nothng to do with that trade. But clearly thw worst in modern times are kobe for divac and dirk for traylor. Scotti Pippen for Olden Poynice was a big draft day trade as well.
"However, Pitino's plan was foiled by Nelson, whose team had the sixth pick. Nelson worked out draft day deals with the Milwaukee Bucks and the Phoenix Suns: the Mavericks wanted Nowitzki and Suns reserve point guard Steve Nash; the Bucks desired muscular forward Robert Traylor, who was projected to be drafted before Nowitzki; and the Suns had set their sights on forward Pat Garrity, who was projected as a low first round pick. In the draft, the Mavericks drafted Traylor with their sixth pick, and the Bucks selected Nowitzki with their ninth and Garrity with their nineteenth pick. The Mavericks then traded Traylor to the Bucks for Nowitzki and Garrity, and they in return traded the latter to Phoenix for Nash."
I wasn't following the draft at that time but I am just trusting Wikipedia(and the fact that if you looked at youtube both was presented at the same time support that)
nash was dealt to dallas for 4 players, one of them being pat gerrity who was invloved in the dallas/milwaukee deal. Nash was not directly aquired in that deal. There was just a small throw in part that came from the dirk/traylor deal that was later included in the nash to dallas deal.
Definitely the Kobe deal, but no one knew he was going to be "kobe" and not just Kobe Bryant.
