What will it take to Keep DWill in Bkly

2011/2012 Season. They have to win now without mortgaging the next few years. What moves can they make to compete this year(6-8th seed) & sign DWill+ a SuperStar next summer.

I don't think the Nets have

I don't think the Nets have to win this year to keep DWill. I think the Bird Exception will allow them to offer DWill a lot more than any other teams. The Brooklyn Arena is already looking nice and it is going to be a hot place to play, I think. The Arena should pull in lots of money for the team, so it should be well funded assuming the Russian owner is inclined to do so, and he certainly seems to be. DWill should be a draw for another Star as well.

I think what they need to do is not over pay for their next star. If Howard decides he wants to play in New York and if the Knicks can't afford him, then the Nets can just wait for him to be a free agent and then offer him a max contract. If that doesn't work out, Nets can be patient for a year or two as DWill is still in his prime and should have several years left to make a run.

Key issue is to avoid another signing like Outlaw. That was just terrible. They shouldn't overspend on anyone this offseason. The nets are going to be playing in Newark for one more year and they aren't going to sell any tickets anyway, even if they are decent. It is a short season and they should just write this one off as far as action on the court.

DWill wants 2 Win Now

Bkly Understands this situation, try to placate your Star while saving $$ for 12. So with that being said here are the moves that will get DWill to the Playoffs this year

A veteran SF that will not break the bank (TPrince,CButler for 2yr 7mill?)

Veteran PF/C. Chandler & Nene would be terrible playing next to BLO This is tricky because the Nets have a PF/C who can give you 18-20ppg but cannot rebound or block shots. So how do you succeed with BLO as the 2nd option, i think the Nets became a better team when Mr.Kardashian turned into a rebounding monster. Therefore i would try to sign a rebounding 4 that can score also. The 1st option is to give DWest a 3-4yr 11-12mill deal(only do this if you know DHow will not be traded) 2nd option sign Josh McRoberts the Former High School player of the Year. He could give them the energy @the 4 spot. While preserving Cap space.

Next order of Business is to Keep Outlaw until the Summer & then Amnesty him to free up cap space this summer.

DWill

SG Tons of options here Veteran FA i.e(JRich or JCrawford)/ RFA(Front load AAffalo for 10mill) amensty casulties (Rip)

or just stand pat with Morrow & the Next Kobe(Marshon Brooks)

SF TPrince or CButler/with DJames coming off the bencg

PF. DWest

C Lopez

Bench=Sign a few inexpensive players to give you some depth

This may be a competitive team that will fight for the playoffs?

jj agreed

I would def go after DWest( if healthy) , putting Brook at the 4 would be a complete disaster. I would also consider going after Richard Jefferson because they need a 3 man who can get his own shot.
