I don’t know if this kind of topic has been posted before and if it has, my bad. But I was wondering which NBA player (past or present) do you identify yourself with the most? I don’t how many of you read SLAM magazine but they have this one section where they compare a NBA player to a rapper and that’s what gave me the idea for this thread. It’s actually an interesting question that I’m sure a few of you have asked yourself before. Which NBA player do you think that you are similar to? And why?

This has been posted on here before, but it was way before your time and it’s all good brother.  If I had to pick mine, it would be a combination between two players.  I tend to play PF/C for my High School, and I play a unique style for a big man.

My offensive play style is similar to that of a combination of Jeff Green and Andrea Bargnani.  I have the athleticism of Barg, and I shoot similar shots, popping threes as a big man, and tend to put up decent numbers whenever I play.  On the other hand, I play more like Jeff Green.  I can hit jump shots, but I execute better when driving to the basket and drawing fouls, and/or attempting to finish layups.  My offensive side of the ball is still being developed, as I’m trying to create my own post game.  My outside game is good, but in the past I have been too jump-shot freindly, and I really need to get the ball inside more, which is what I have been working on.  Finally, my passing abilities.  Some may call me biased but my passing ability is some of the best of any big man I have seen.  I can zip the ball through small holes, and feed the ball to anyone I can see, which typically is the entire offensive side of the floor.

My defensive side of the ball is stellar, and I see myself as a Kendrick Perkins type of defender.  I can stick with you even though I’m big-boddied, and I block a ton of shots.  The only thing I do better as a High School player than Perk does in the NBA is steal the basketball.  My freshman season I averaged 2.3 steals per game as a starting center.  I also averaged 2.5 blocks per game.

So all in all, I have various play styles on offense, but I’m more of a threat on defense.  I still need to develope and exucute an effective post game, but as soon as I can solidify that then I will be good on the offensive side of the ball.  My defense is solid as I play better in a Zone defense than I do Man-To-Man.

I like to view myself as a Rasho Nesterovic type, minus a foot in height. Play solid defense that doesn’t wow anybody, I’d rather alter 9 out of 10 shots than block 1 out of 10. I’m not fleet of foot but I still get up and down fairly good. My offensive game was a lil better than Rasho’s but I can nail that elbow jumper just like him. I got some high and low post moves (from watching bosh). My shot also looks like Bargnani’s, except I got no range, but motion and style are the same. You can probably tell I watched a lot of Raptor games when I was playing ball lol.

I got Bargnani’s defense, Ben Wallace’s offense, and neither of those guys’ height.

Nice responses from everyone. I guess I should put mine as well. I’d say I’m Kendrick Perkins from last year in a point guard’s body. The reason for Perkins is I used to play pretty tough defense, I could hit a shot once in a while, and I have a similar demeanor. The reason why I say last year is because I’m out of shape just like Perkins was last year.

Conditioning wise, I’m worse than Rasheed, in his Boston days, lol

Other than that, I’m a cross between Kendrick Perkins, Pau Gasol, and Andrea Bargnani.

On d, and inside, (I’m a big) I am tough and strong, and even though I can’t outjump you, I will get a body on you and outrebound you. I’ll make you wish you didn’t drive down the lane. On offense, I can be Andrea, in the sense that I can hit het open jumper, and shoot threes. Recently, I’ve been working on a low post game, rather than just taking turnaround jumpshots, I feel like I have an array of low post hooks and back down moves much like Gasol. And emotionaly, I can be like KG somtimes, lol.

Steve Blake, decent PG who’s not going to turn the ball open but will hit the open shot and play hard on both ends of the floor.

Metta World Peace, a 5’6" version though, i love to defend and shoot questionable threes, though some does not go in, i love the physicallity while defending, it gets to the nerves of my opponent and ends up into a brawl

hmm tough. for some reason it depends on the competition i play. there are 3 different types of competiton i play against. the old men at the ymca, the guys that go to my school, and the hood.

when i play with the guys at the YMCA im like: john wall. i can turn it on whenever i want. my jumpshot is ok. not the best. my speed kills them but also kills me when im out of control.

when i play at my school: austin rivers w/ less ball hog. like i try and show off, doing cool crossovers and what not, making awesome shots… (and i kinda shoot like him in general) but then again my jumpshot is still not good lol

when i play in the hood: i play like a very passive jimmer fredette, i shoot bombs cause i cant get by my defenders, and then normlly whenever im at the 3 i just pass… so i cant quite think of a play besides jimmer cause he shoots bombs of a 3… ha thats my worst comparison

I’ll say Tony Allen. I’m the guy that would do little of everything. Score some points, rebound, steals, assist, hustle, and perimeter defense. Can’t dunk though.

I am not really sure on mine. Anyone help me out?

    Offense:

+ Good Shooter with range, can hit 30 footers often

+ Great Pumpfake that gets people into the air (Relies on it to much though)

+ Decent passer and has nice court awareness

+ Very quick and can get to the rim

    – Struggles to finish at the rim

    – Can not create my own shot against any decent defender (If you dont fall for my pump i am screwed)

    – Does not have a quick release jumper

    Defense:

+ Very quick guard with fantastic lateral quickness (Outhustles everyone)

+ Great timing on defense with passing lanes and on-ball steals

+ Great tenacity. You have to work hard to put up points on me, I will never give up.

    – Height and small frame. Short and skinny, can be outmuscled

I would say i am kinda like Eddie House on offense and Rondo on D

I’ll go with Chauncey Billups in Baron Davis’ body.

I play like Wade offensively and Scottie Pippen on D. I’m at my best though in a Pippen role overall though. I used to get Caron Butler occasionally when I first started playing, but I’d say then I was more llike Marion since I lacked shot creating ability. Since then I’ve developed my handle and driving/midrange shooting/postplay to a point I’m more comparable to Pippen. I’ve grown up next to an older brother whop patterns his game more in the Kobe/MJ mold, so naturally I’ve devloped like him but more to an all around style of play, just the way Pippen did with MJ.

I’d say my basketball career mirrors T-Mac’s.  When I was younger, I used to be a great player but I broke my foot and got out of shape.  Now I’m playing decent again and playing PG, while doing a little of everything.

A 5’6" Jeremy Lin- awkward jumpers, explosive speed, the ability to create shots for other

I also play a lot of post for my high school team, so I play post like an unhealthy Bynum; I can rebound like him as well

Probably ’bout as quick as Ty Lawson; and the jumping ability of Lebron

I played a lot like Theo Ratliff in high school, an undersized post who blocked a ton of shots, had a nice 15 footer, but not a top 3 offensive option.

Now, since I’ve kept playing, have a much more refined post game and I’m stronger.  I guess I kind of play like a more athletic Tim Duncan.  I love shooting hooks and banks down on the blocks and can shoot consistantly out to 18 feet or so.

I’m a thinner Chuck Hayes. Play very pesky defense and am capable of guarding about anybody that isn’t really quick. I’m not really much of an offensive force but I’ll hit a 15 footer if you don’t guard it. I like to set others up for shots and concentrate most of my ability on D. I don’t have nearly the incredible work ethic he does however.
