The Mavs have now lost 6 on the bounce and despite Dirk being back are showing similar form to Cleveland and New Jersey and not that of a play off team let alone a real contender. With a pro-active owner like Mark Cuban who does like to give his Head Coaches time and a good GM in Donnie Nelso, I wondered how people saw the Mavericks trying to stop the slide.

Apart from Dirk with his no trade clause and both Marion and Haywood on long term deals, I would figure that the rest of the roster is tradeable. A lot of contracts expire this year and next year Jason Terry is only guaranteed $5 millon of $11.437 mllion and Jason Kidd expires as well. The Mavs will not really have cap room to sign a major FA this summer and to save this season they need to move now. Both Butler and Chandler have big expiring deals and whilst Dallas may be loathe to move Chandler then needs may suffice and they may be able to get him back in FA like they resigned Diop in 2008 after the Kidd trade.

They have been linked to the likes of Iggy and with Charlotte looking to reportedly shed salaries then they may look at the likes of Crash Wallace for example. Jason Kidd is nearly 38 and has lost a yard or two and with Dirk’s championship window closing then they may even look at dealing Kidd for a younger PG. It may be far fetched but getting Devin Harris back could make sense, the Nets are rebuilding and Kidd who expires a year before Harris would be a perfect guy to mentor any young PG they may draft and the Nets save a year on Harris’s salary. With Cleveland going nowhere any moves for Jamieson could be successful and the Mavs may get a sweetner for taking extra salary on.

Jason Kidd has 2 years on his deal, and he’s the centrepiece alongside Nowitzki, he’s going nowhere, they can’t win anything without him.

Tyson Chandler is the anchor of the defense and couldn’t move him.

Jason Terry is very loyal, can’t see him being moved but it’s possible.

Stephen Jackson makes more sense for Dallas then Gerald Wallace, they need someone who can create their own shot, and Jackson does this very well, but apparently Melo is interested in Dallas, which would be interesting. Igoudala has been the most thrown out name though, but Philly expects to much back for him. I don’t think Jamison would even be considered.

    Does DeShawn Stevenson stay?

He has been play alright in the games I have seen him play in.

Jason Kidd’s contract expires at the end of 2011-12 season so next season he wll be an expiring contract in effect. I’m a huge Kidd fan but just wonder whether Dallas can risk another year as they are with everyone ageing as the window is closing. Dirk will be 33 years old this summer and he cannot be expected to carry the team forever and it’s logical that his scoring may start to drop off a bit in due course.

OJ Mayo would be bad as he would be in the same situation as Memphis, plus he can’t play the SF position.

Stephen Jackson would be a great pickup for Dallas.  I’m not a big salary buff, so I don’t know what they could do to land him without moving too many key pieces.  I’ve seen Tayshaun Prince’s name mentioned, but he doesn’t provide the scoring ability that Jackson does.  Prince’s presence would be about the same as Marion’s.

I’m sure the Mavs would like for Roddy B to return soon to see what kind of spark he can add, but like you all have mentioned SF is definitely the position that needs help. Any time you are giving Brian Cardinal 15-20 minutes a game on a regular basis, I think that is a sign that you need another SF.  I would be a little surprised if the Mavericks don’t make a move before the deadline.

@memphis tyga Stevenson has played well this season and has found his shot after struggling last year, but he is far from untradeable

As a nets fan i would keep Harris over Kidd, I think Harris is worth more maybe Kidd plus another young player. I rather see Harris in a deal for Melo or some other star player

I don’t think the Nets and Mavs are talking about a Harris for Kidd deal.  The reports have been that after Harris goes to Denver, which remains to be seen, then the Nuggets may ship Harris to either Dallas or Portland.
