What happened to the Blazers?
The start of the 2007-2008 NBA season saw a new up and coming team. (i.e. Oklahoma Thunder now) and suddenly, all their players reached their ceiling..
A 23 year old B-Roy and 22 year old LaMarcus Aldridge. This team already look very nice. Throw in some role players like Outlaw (23), Jarret Jack (24), and Martell Webster (21).
They had a prospect, a dominating force down low, decent offensive game and great defensive game. This team was suppose to stay together for years and be the best team after the Lakers-era. His name? Greg Oden (20)
They had a PG, SG, SF, PF, C. And they all seemed to be able to mesh together with their half court play. Then suddenly, LaMarcus didn't pan out, B-Roy hit his ceiling as a 20-5-4 guy. 2 small forwards in Webster and Outlaw that could really take that position and be very talented players. Throw in a young 24yr old PG and a 20yr old 1st overall pick. They had every position covered and they had a deep team.
Blake (27), Frye (24), Pryzbilla (28), Wafer (22), Webster (21)
They brought in more young talent, Bayless (20), Batum (20), Fernandez (23)
Now my simple question...
What the HELL happened? They all just stopped improving and they are happy with what they have. LaMarcus seemed to get lazy and doesn't have a good motor, Bayless was traded, Webster traded, Blake and Jack or gone. Fernandez is unhappy. And Roy, who was expected to do great last season after all the injuries, his stats actually went down!
Nate has turned them into an older team.
Their still very good but their not the young, exiting team they used to be.
Not having Oden makes it harder for me to watch them now.
This team used to be so exciting, now with Andre Miller and Brandon Roy, they play such a slow tempo, that it's boring. And it's not even Gregg Popovich/Spurs boring, that atleast has some artistic pleasure.. This tempo and play style is simply BORING.
I think you're overblowing the Blazers' demise lol.
This team has won 50 games the last two seasons in the West despite their injuries. IF they can get and stay healthy, this team will definitely get out of the first round.
And this team has never been that exciting. Nate McMillian runs a very slow tempo offense. I mean, they're the slowest team in the NBA. Literally.
They want to make it a half-court, grind it out game. That's Nate.
I think watching Brandon Roy hit buzzer beaters is exciting. Also they are playing the Clippers whats not exciting about watching Griffin and Jordan.
Yeah, I'm not saying this is a bad team, that's not at all what I'm saying but this team was suppose to be like what the Thunder are suppose to be. They were suppose to be the next Lakers but now I don't think so.
I actually like this line-up. Armon Johnson, Rudy Fernandez, Oberto, Matthews
I think they need to open it up more like they did two years go.
Steve Blake was a much better fit they need a spot up shooter at point.
They need to realive Aldridge will never be a good half court player.
But imo he would be the best fast break big man in the league, hes built perfectly for the fast break.
to be honest i think this team lack an identity.
The Thunder are seriously not all that different from the Blazers. One 50 win season and a first round playoff exit. The Thunder are just the league's hot team right now.
so this thread is about the Blazers not being excited to watch right? They were never exciting to watch to begin with. On paper they look fun to watch but in reality they're not. Plus injuries make it worse also. If you look at last season injuries for the Thunder you can see why they did so well compare to the Blazers.
Who cares? I personally enjoy watching a team actually set up the offense instead of constantly seeing lots of turnovers and fastbreaks. I do think that the Blazers need to run the ball more, though.
Oh cmon gregoden08!
Nobody wakes up in the morning and says "I'm going to go to the courts today, and play a slow tempo game"
Nobody day dreams about slow tempo games.. Everybody day dreams of fast breaks, transition 3's, and bodies on the floor.
I never said that...I said I prefer what Blazers do than say...The Golden State Warriors. I never dream about slow tempo games lol...wtf you talking about?
What about the spurs they never were exciting and won championships..they play a nice slow tempo that sets up offense and capatilize on it..and to say their players hit a ceiling is foolish if their in the mid 20's how can u say they hit a ceiling, unless you can predict the future
if oden n pryz could ever stay healthy they have the size and over all talent to compete wiht the lakers i love nates slow down grind it out offense roy and miller are both excellent half court guards true they could run more wiht roy and miller and l aldrdge but this slow down pace works they could really use a low post option on offense roy and miller are their best post up options really thought they should have traded rudy for a post up guy
