What do you think is more important?

Imagine it´s draftnight 2012 and you´re the gm of the Boston Celtics. You need a power forward and you can choose between Perry Jones and Jared Sullinger. Who do you draft?

And: What is more important - athleticism and potential (Jones) or skills (Sullinger)?

I would take Jared. He can rebound which will always translate and he has a very polished offensive game. Yes perry jones is an athletic freak and has a ton of potential, but how many guys with a ton of "potential" have actually panned out?

Celtics are looking to win

Celtics are looking to win now and don't have time to wait for PJ3 to develop. Sullinger can step in on day one and be effective as a bench player.

^^^ Gotta go with get buckets here

I like both as prospects and potential steals late in the draft, but Big Baby barely made it out of having to play next to KG mentally staple. PJ3 wasnt ready for that enviroment and expectations. Sullinger is savy, a good passer and Doc seems to utilize these smaller wider PF's really well like Big Baby and now Bass and Sullinger. Knowing Terry, Pierce and Sullinger could be guarding the most athletically gifted positions at any point at the same time is worriesome tough. PJ3 fell in exactly the right spot and so did Sullinger. PJ3 getting to enjoy wins, development and a great group of guys with Lamb and Reggie Jackson under the radar is a great situation.

What if Evans went to the Thunder ahead of Harden, their roles and how we percieve their personalities might have flipped also?

I no longer hate guys for ducking certain terribly run teams in the draft or turning down more money to go somewhere else, because it could change everything.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guys with a ton of potential and/or athleticism who dropped in drafts since 2005 and actually panned out (or appear to have panned out very early in their careers):

2005 - Monta Ellis, Lou Williams, Amir Williams

2006 - Rajon Rondo, Shannon Brown, Ryan Hollins (for a late second rounder becoming a quality rotation player is panning out)

2007 - Wilson Chandler, Josh McRoberts

2008 - Serge Ibaka, Nic Batum, DeAndre Jordan, Darrell Arthur

2009 - Taj Gibson, Chase Budinger

2010 - Eric Bledsoe, Avery Bradley, Kevin Seraphin

2011 - Iman Shumpert, Donatas Motiejunas, Marshon Brooks

People tend to remember the guys that don't pan out but the truth is that taking a later first rounder or second rounder on a high potential/high athleticism player actually works out decently often. Those guys would have been major risks if taken in the top 10, but considering where they were taken ended up being a steal for almost all of their teams. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Jones joined them. He might never be a star in the NBA but I think he could become a solid starter in the league.
