What do you guys think about this trade idea?
I just want to make one thing clear... I'm NOT trying to make a ridiculous trade thread. I just want to get some ideas involving trades for Josh Smith and I'm not trying to say I want this trade to happen or this trade is going to happen, just want to add some discussion thoughts.
What do you guys think about this trade?
Why would this trade happen? I think Josh Smith's time in Atlanta is over due and I think he needs a change of scenery. Calderon would benefit the Hawks because they get a solid backup PG and an expiring contract that the Hawks can use in FA this year. Bargnani can play C and Horford can play the PF position. Horford being a strong rebounder can cover up Bargnani's rebounding weaknesses. Bargnani can focus on scoring and doing what he does. Ed Davis would be the key to the trade, this guy is a decent big man. He has a good game close to the basket and can hit the jump shot. Watching numerous Raptors game, I can see that he is a good finisher as well and can explode very quickly underneath the basket.
What does this mean for the Raptors? Let's face it... Our lottery pick is protected and OKC gets out pick from 4-14. Meaning we have to make the play offs or seriously tank. The Raptors as usual are caught in the middle and we're trying fight for a playoff spot without the right piece. And this is where Josh Smith comes into the picture. Maybe Josh Smith is that veteran presence the Raptors need. A multi-faceted PF who can also play SF. He gets a fresh start and will have an important role with the Raptors. What would Devin Harris do for the Raptors? A solid back up PG for the Raptors and an expiring contract the Raptors can use in FA.
Raptors give up too much....Davis is becoming a force and Calderon>Harris
You really think so? I love Calderon, but he is a liability on defense. Jrue Holiday destroyed us last night. Yeah Davis' is becoming a factor but I feel like his game needs to be refined more.
Raptors would jump at that deal. Anything reasonable to rid themselves of Bargnani. Davis does look good, but again, they would jump at this deal. They'll then prob try to move Smith to LA for Gasol since both teams has been enamored with both forwards. Ridding themselves of Bargnani's contract would be extremely difficult. Only way I see this happening is if they land a top 3 pick, where Thunder won't receive it, and package that pick along with Bargnani.
Atlanta however would not do this. Ferry didn't work wonders to rid himself of the second worst contract in the league (Joe Johnson) to turn around and bring in the worst contract in the league (Bargnani). Atlanta would move Smith for a legit starting center, which Bargnani is not, a starting pg if better than Teague, or high picks. If not, they should hold onto Smith. Best case, he does attract Howard and Paul to Atlanta, or they let him walk for the cap space.
But they get an expiring 10 million contract with Calderon and a stud in Davis
I wouldn't put that much value on Calderon's contract since both Smith and Harris contracts also expires. They will actually take a loss on cap space by adding Bargnani. And I liked Ed Davis coming out, but I wouldn't call him a stud. And if he did come I don't see how he mashes with Hartford,. Davis requires pt now so he shouldn't come off the bench. I just don't think this deal is worth it to Atlanta.
Harris had 1 good game last night. His prime is in CIncinnati and he's in Milwaukee, heading west. (aka, he's past it). The Raptors aren't gonna give up both Davis and Bargnanin for one sort-of big man who is very inconsistent. I know they have Valanciunas to play Center, but they don't have much else at Center. Raptors wouldn't do this, and I'm not sure the Hawls woould, either.
The Hawks want a legitimate 7 footer that can play center for josh
Gasol for Smith straight up? Whats holding this trade back?
The 19 million Gasol gets next year and a first round pick or two the Laker's don't have. Plus the 6 million more Gasol makes this year than Smith makes.
The Raptor's would have to give up Ross or Derozan in a trade for Smith. Toronto would have to be committed to giving Smith the max also because he could leave for nothing in the summer.
Who will take these 3 years 33MD of bargnani, that's a legit MI-5 man...
Who wants to be a lotto team forever if he's a starter, who wants an offensive 6th men in double digit MD til 2015.
Maybe sarver could be thrilled....
