OhCanada-ParticipantThe Spurs will be retiring Timmy D’s #21 sometime this year I just heard while watching the Spurs/Celtics game. They also said Popovich wants him back because the defensive sets and rotations are not the same. Duncan is usually at the practice facility but he acts as a player not as a coach.
Whats the chances they retire his number then he comes back and plays in the playoffs with his number retired. Has this ever happened?

ChewyParticipantretired before of after his Wizard days? I could see this possibly applying to him.

RUDEBOY_Participantmagic returned to play in 96 after having his jersey retired in 92..but i dont know if there’s ever been a player returning to play after having his jersey retired and returning in the playoffs the same season..its an interesting topic to look up..

HitsterParticipantI wonder if Duncan would want or need to comeback with Pau and LMA as the Spurs frontcourt starters would Tim want to be a bench rotation player and to put either of them to the bench for a 40 year old returning would be a huge call.
But Duncan returning and taking the Spurs on a great play off run is a story to be written.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantJordan came back after having his jersey retired in 1995 and magic did it for a short time in 1996.
I doubt Duncan would want to comeback at this point, but then again it’s pretty much impossible to get a read on what Duncan is thinking. If he really misses the game that much, he might consider it. I’m not sure if it would put them any closer to a championship though.

MatosParticipantThat would be an awesome story. Even in a limited role I think he could help the team. Off his knowledge of the system alone he is a great add

WetalkinboutpracticeParticipantA great dad*
Considering he’s old enough to have fathered more than a few current Spurs.
