OneAndDoneParticipantWhile i am not a regular poster on this site, i frequent it almost every night to see everyones opinions on the current topics on NCAA and NBA basketball. I am a huge Kentucky fan and love to hear opinions on the Wildcats especially. Willy Cauley-Stein has been loved and hated at different times on this site, and recently has been loved. This kid has improved each year he has played in Lexington and is really putting it together this year. My post is not regarding his honest to God potential in the league, it is more in reference to his importance to Kentucky basketball. It is on record as to John Calipari saying he absolutely didnt think WCS was coming back to school, but in fact did just that. To me this is a kid that understands that a championship atmostphere can not simply be achieved by a stacked group of freshman coming in and dominating, but in fact a great balance of young talent and upperclassmen leadership. Cauley-Stein has played with a few lottery picks and himself last year could have potentially been one, but in my opinion he understands that because John Calipari took a chance on a long freakishly athletic wide receiver to play center for him, that he should play the all important role that Darius Miller played for the 2012 team and lead the youngsters to what they are capable of. He has a chance to go down in history as one of the most important Wildcats to ever play in the sense that he passed up riches as a teen to help this program that took a chance on him get to the final four multiple times. He is a great kid, and i wish nothing but success for him…

theballerwayParticipantHe will surely be a top ten pick (currently 11th in mock) His maturity is now a selling point as well as his athletic skills. Theres also still so much room for him to improve, he’s obviously receptive to teaching simply based on his improvemnt thus far

OhCanada-ParticipantHe’s still a below average offensive player and leaves a lot to be desired from that end of the floor. Although I’ve seen him help close games by making so many plays in a handful of different defensive scenerios. His defensive versatility is mindboggling.
Bigs that can guard traditional bigs can rarely gaurd face up bigs or stretch bigs do to what is usually a fine line between bulk and quickness yet he can gaurd any big. While gaurding that big he is an excellent help defender and likely the top transition defender on open breaks in the country which is huge on the NBA level. His length can be used to make the opponents primary ballhandler uncomfortable in half court sets if need be as well.
I’m not that sure how his game will translate in the NBA although teams must be very interested in such a defensively sound prospect with great size, length and athletisism.

juves4783Participantreminds me of a mentally stable javele mcgee. that’s not an insult too. i think when his head is screwed on correctly, mcgee is pretty good. unfortunately, that is rare by his tweets.

Chilbert arenasParticipantTyson Chandler comes to mind. But in all reality he’s moved up draft boards by coming back to school, showing he’s matured on the court and in the lockeroom. As good of a story this is, it is somewhat dampered by the poythress injury which will encourage kids to leave earlier.

TheLastWordParticipantChandler is a good prediction. Knicks will likely have him on their radar.

MopgrassParticipantIt’s a reminder that very underdeveloped centers are best served by staying a few more years in college. There are so many skilled players in pros, it seems like there’s less time to develop a big man these days. NBA teams end up sending them to DLeague and forgeting they have talent or sending them to Euroleagues where they don’t gain weight.
Good move WCS.

OhCanada-ParticipantValanciunas gained 40-50 pounds in Europe before being drafted.

GoJOSH HUESTISParticipantA more versatile Kenyon Martin. I didn’t use tyson because WCS can not only guard bigs he can guard a SF without needing help. Hell he guards guards and you don’t have to help him. What he did to that providence SF/SG was amazing. What he did to Norman Powell today was amazing as well. Yes his offense is raw but so is/was Faried and tyson and many other bigs. The scary thing is he has a lot of room to still grow. He’s easily a top 10 pick and has enough offense to give you a good 10ppg in the first two years then go from there

Grizzard25ParticipantNoah works very hard and with limited moves has become a difficult match up for opposing teams. They both have soft hands and both played with another center on the floor(Horford) …Noah has much better foot work, but I dont see any resemblance to K Marts game. Naismith and Wooden award winners get a little more cred…not to mention tallying 3.5 blocks a game.
Weak drafts like this years group will benefit Willie but he is the fourth or fifth best big….0- Posted on: Sun, 12/21/2014 - 4:07am #959578
Lotto StudParticipantDespite K-Mart being 6’9" which is why most will not agree, I’m assuming the reference is coming from having similar motors.
