Was Pau Gasol wrong for saying Garnett maybe lost a step?

Why won't Garnett admit it, his teammates are saying the same thing but in nicer ways.

Isn't it funny how they had to come up with stupid excuses to why he missed two wide open dunks.

I actually watched the press

I actually watched the press conference on nbatv yesterday where pau said that. He in no way seemed like he was trying to take shots at KG. He said he isnt as quick and relies more on jumpers. But then added age does that to everyone and that KG plays as hard anyone and still brings it.

Then KG hearing his comments, not sure how it was repeated back to him, seemed to take it personal. He said "Im not worried about that stuff. And who is he?" I dont blame KG for taking it personal. Pau shouldnt have said anything. KG is under some criticism right now and the last thing any competitor wants to hear is his opponent saying he's lost a step.

So yes, I think Pau should have kept quiet on that, although i dont think he meant any harm.

It depends on how you

It depends on how you interpret it. Personally I don't think Pau was taking shots at Garnett, just saying what he observed on the court. Garnett has 15 years of NBA experience under his belt and is on the wrong side of 30, so he has obviously lost a step. Pau didn't need to say that.

I doubt Garnett can do

I doubt Garnett can do anything game 2 that he did not do game 1. It makes me laugh when someone says he woke this or that player up and I am like they are playing for a championship so if they are not pushing themselves to the max already than it is not happening. Garnett comments on other players all the time so I don't see why he should trip.

It may not have been the

It may not have been the smartest thing to say because you know the media was going to twist but Gasol said nothing wrong so at the same time why should he worry.

yea saying he inst as quick

yea saying he inst as quick and relies more on jumpers is a lot better than saying he has lost a step but its still a knock on garnett and you dont want to fire him up save it for after the series

Just look at his season's averages

For the season, KG averaged 14.3 pts. 7.3 rebs. 2.5 asts. 0.8 blks.

Someone should show KG these numbers and ask him why?

Remember, the guy used to average over 20 and 12.

I'd love to hear an NBA player say something honest for a change.

"I'm trying my best, but I'm just too old now."

Like Garnett is all the

Like Garnett is all the sudden going to average 30pts 20 rebounds after the comment. Its the truth he has lost a step everyone knows it. And pretty sure that people talk crap in series all the time(even though pau didnt) So who cares when he says it or why

the back story to all this is

the back story to all this is the continued trash talk by the lakers...this entire season i think they've felt a sense of entitlement to talk about players on other teams...i know phil jackson has been fined a few times, artest was talking about ariza a week or so ago, and now gasol taking shots at garnett? i've lost some respect for a team that i used to hate but at least had some respect for

I guess pau wasn't completely

I guess pau wasn't completely out of line for saying that but like KG said, who is Pau Gasol to him? I guarantee if pau wasn't on the lakers or still on memphis that he would never say anthing to kg about anything. Its just that pau feels he can talk now because he plays for the lakers. I guess it comes with the territory. I think this criticism is good for KG though. I fully expect him to put up though. He's obviously not what he was years ago, maybe not even what he was 2 years ago, but he has more fire than just about anyone (except maybe kobe) and i dont expect him to do anything less than produce. But still pau has done nothing to say anything about someone of KG's stature, a sureshot hall of famer when its all said and done. That's like if chris bosh were to call out tim duncan. He's a younger and probably more effective player than duncan but you can't question duncan's legacy or anything about him ESPECIALLY if you don't have a legacy yourself. (And sorry the one championship from last season doesn't qualify for legacy status)

Im not entirely sure, but

Im not entirely sure, but wasnt it KG that started the "soft" label on Gasol ? I think if I can remember in the 2008 Finals, KG said something in the media that implied Gasol as a "soft" player. Perhaps it stuck on Gasol's head and now trying to get some revenge.

I just wanna know how the

I just wanna know how the Lakers ended up w/ Gasol in the first place. I mean... how does an elite team pick up an elite player from a crap team? What did they give up for him?

I don't mind this at all from

I don't mind this at all from Pau Gasol. I mean KG talks so much trash on court when the mics are off him, so there is no reason to take this personally. I don't think Pau Gasol was taking shots at KG's legacy or anything like that. I mean Gasol was telling the TRUTH! That is the funny thing about it. How can you get mad about something like that? Gasol may not have the legacy that KG has, but it isn't about the past or anything like that. It's about NOW, and right now, KG isn't producing like he used to. Simple as that...

come on

the media twisted what pau said to make it look pretty bad. of course garnett is going to react like that. he knew he had a &$#%#&@! game. and he can step up his defense in game 2 . that is something he can do better

I love KG, but the dudes a punk. Pau wasn't out of line, and if the roles were reversed, then KG would have said the same thing about Pau. I think its pathetic, really. KG is a great player don't get me wrong, but he has lost a step and he can't come to realize it. Who is Pau? He's an elite player in the NBA who happens to have the SAME number of rings as KG, and is about to get another one. KG really isn't playing and producing like he used to.

KG is definitely not a punk.

KG is definitely not a punk. I guess that's your opinion but I don't know how you can question a HOFer who has been guaranteed that status fir years now. And there have been plenty of players that have had gasols numbers over a stretch of a few seasons. My point is that Garnett was outplayed in 1 game. People act like the lakers have some insane edge over Boston or something from one game. Gasol isn't as soft as 08 but he is definitely still soft. As the series progresses it will come to the surface

Umm

Gasol just stated the obvious. Don't act like none of you have seen Garnett miss some easy alley oops that Rondo has thrown him. He has been missing quite a few dunks for awhile and he's a 7 footer with long arms. Lost a step might be an understatement, though the guy can make up for it by playing smart, playing hard and unlike some guys that are all athleticism, Garnett has real skills. You can't be dominate forever though. Eventually your body wears down. I remember watching Hakeem fall apart the last year of his career in Toronto

Im a celtics fan

Pau said the truth and I have no problem with it. I hope KG and the C's use it as motivation this next game and split in LA. I hope KG can play about 33 or 34 minutes the rest of the serious. He cnat dominate like he use to but he still can hopefully get 17PPG and 8RPG. If he does that we have a chance. We need the whole team to make an effort to box out and rebound defensively.

I watched the press

I watched the press conference and Pau didn't mean any harm. He was actually talking about the difference between playing against KG when he came into the league compared to now. Like Llperez said above, Pau also talked about how eventually age does that to everyone.

The media twisted this. However... I hope it gets KG fired up. Based on the way he played in game one, he needs it.

Gasol's just being honest.

Gasol's just being honest. Everybody loses a step at Garnett's age, especially when they had to spend their prime years piggy-backing a team. Gasol will lose a step in a few years, too.

OJJ you mean having a team

OJJ you mean having a team piggyback you. Minny rode KG hard and I hope Lebron takes his advice and leaves now while he is young and can team up with some solid players and have a chance to win in a year or two.

ok....

i disagree with the comment about pau should have kept his mouth closed. 1st of all he was asked a question and he did exactly what he was supposed to. he answered it truthfully. he didnt knock kg in anyway in the press conference. i think when people hear the truth they honestlty don tkno how 2 take it. i heard rondos response as well and i kno the celtics kno ju slike kg knows he truly has lost a step. whether he wants 2 use that as motivation u kno thats cool and all but pau did jus wat he should have.
