Warriors offered D. Lee for Bargnani

http://www.raptorscage.ca/why-the-toronto-raptors-rejected-david-lee-fro...

Apparently Warriors made an offer for Bargnani that would've sent David Lee in Canada. While the trade might look as a steal for Toronto if one just looks at their 2012-2013 stats, Raptors didn't accept that one. Obviously they don't want Lee's contract, that would give them no cap space for the next seasons, and NY gave them some 1st round picks that might turn out to be a great added value. But all in all how good would've been a Lowry-Derozan-Gay-Lee-Valanciunas lineup? With Ross, Kleiza, Fields and A. Johnson coming out of the bench they look like a playoff team in the Eastern Conference. I don't have a clear idea on their decision, just curious to know what do Raptors fan think about it.

I am not a raptors fan but

I am not a raptors fan but that lineup looks solid enough for a playoff spot. I am not sure about tanking or whatever but they have a semi decent team as it is they might be able to challenge for a playoff spot.

Lee is $44 mill over the next 3 years. Sure its not a great contract but its not like its an Amare or Joe Johnson type deal

as a warriors fan, i would

as a warriors fan, i would like to express my dissapointment on hearing about this and how relieved i am that it dint happen. we spent so many years trying to put a consistently good team to make the play-offs and compete. last thing i would want is try to take away from the chemistry they built this past season and try to build it again next year.

I don't like that deal for

I don't like that deal for either team. Toronto could have been better, but they would have had a fairly low ceiling. They would have likely just been a one-and-done team in the playoffs for a couple years. Golden State would have insane shooting, but I don't love the idea of Bargnani playing big minutes on a playoff team. Bargnani is more of a tease as a player than anything else.

Not sure why T.O. is trying

Not sure why T.O. is trying to get all this cap space for 2014. Who is really going to go to T.O?? Who has been the biggest FA to ever sign in T.O?? I understand there is a bunch of Canadian players now in the L but none of them except Nash will be a FA in 2014 and he's going to be old and burnt out. They better hope they tank and the NBA give them the first pick.

Nice piece, but...

I'll take the future cap flex, and the draft picks on this one. Lee's contract would not give them much room to improve later on.

Camby and Richardson likely won't even play in TO. I see Novak being flipped by the dealine at the latest - maybe even before the season for more smaller pieces (including a pick or two.)

I think for the Warriors it

I think for the Warriors it could've been a high risk/high reward move. Not necessarily a bad one. With Lee they're a solid team, but they're not likely to improve much and they probably think that they're at their best with just one big man playing in the paint (Bogut) and an athletic combo forward or a stretch 4, considering that Lee is also a very bad defender. Lee is probably at his peak so if they want to trade him they have to do it now and Bargnani, among those who have the skills that Warriors are looking for, is probably the one with the highest ceiling.

There are clearly lots of risks: Bargnani never looked like a hard worker in his career, is coming from his worst season, is a bad defender, can't grab more than 5-6 rebound per 36 minutes even playing with 8 years old kids and Bogut has to stay healthy in order to have things working. I think Bargnani if given a chance on a decent team is going to be better than last year, he had some injuries and his 2011-2012 season was very good, he probably needs to change team and could've made Warriors offense almost unstoppable. But again, even if everything turns out right, they're giving up one of the league's best rebounders for a very poor one and that might be too much for them.

I understand why the Raptors rejected, while they could've been decent for a couple of years their ceiling would've been somehow limited. But at the same time, they might be too good, or not bad enough for tanking, unless they trade Gay or/and someone else. And if they end up like winning 30-35 games and having a lottery pick in the 7-11 range is that really going to give them much upside?

david lee stay where you at

I think maybe we have gotten rapped up in this living in the moment thing. Everyone who says trade lee and his contract is too much. Do you guys understand they would not have made the playoffs without him. He did get hurt and they still beat the nuggets. but it is the nuggets post players are faried who only has a jump hook he shoots maybe 3 times a game. and koufos and McGee who they really do not throw the ball into. They survived without lee because the nuggets never utilized their big men, also I know you all remember the san Antonio series once the warriors jumpers stopped falling they nothing else to turn to would have helped with a healthy lee. do not like all the trading in the nba THESE DAYS. especially just too tank for pontial in the next after next draft. Isnt it obvious too you guys that the level of basketball talent not athletically gifted is dropping year by year? Golden state keep lee, Andrei might be at the knicks but do not offer him any more. You might not make the playoffs you know how those legs of curry and bogut can wobble very easily

Knicks will trade Bargs to

Knicks will trade Bargs to get Lee back, straight up, right now. Lee is literally twice the rebounder Bargs is.
