Vasquez was traded to the Hornets for Pondexter..
Decent trade for both teams.
Vasquez is a nice PG nest to Gordon.
Thank God! The BBall God that is. My boi Selby will be "Walkin in Memphis"
Jarrett Jack is the starter for now, but I wouldn't be surprised if Vasquez is starting by mid-season given that he is a much better passer......
I hope Jarrett Jack gets out of New Orleans, dude has been bounced around the league WAY too much for being such a pro on and off the court.
Wow just looked him up he is only 28 I didn't even know that, he could really help a contender one of the most underrated players in the league.
I think that this is sort of an odd deal. I thought that Vasquez was a great revelation for them last season, and that he would be part of their plans going foward. It's either they wanted to clear spot in the backcourt, or needed some more frontcourt help with Darrel Arthur out, and even though Pondexter isn't a big, he us a nice option at the three spot, where they only have Gay I believe.
Hearing that Pargo is the reason for the trade.. He has shown them he is better behind Conley than Vasquez is.. The Grizz also really liked Pondexters performance against them in their pre-season game.
I know a lot of you are favoring this deal on the Hornets behalf, but I think this is a plus plus for Memphis. This acquisition is not a drop off at all for Memphis, although they are losing a key guy in Vasquez.
Me personally I would rather have a 3-4 man being in the situation the Grizz are in with Arthur out for the season. Selby may never be a "pure PG", but he is that M-80(explosive) we all love to toy with. A vast majority of you guys on the forum dislike(d) him, but I feel as though he will only go up from this day forth. Selby has no pressure on him at all, to make repetitive mistakes by being timid of not getting in the rotation. This can only make him a better more mature player at this level.
Josh Selby is going to be chained to the bench man. Vazquez is gone, but Selby isn't going to factor much at all in terms of getting any minutes left behind.
So Pargo sucks up all the air time?
Between Conley, Pargo at PG; and Allen, Henry, Young and Mayo at SG he will be chained to the bench or in the DLeague
And what was Selby's contract inked for?
I'm surprise he didnt veto this trade.
I love when teams try to mask their bad first round draft picks by trading them away quickly.
Merry Christmas everyone!!
You guys must've not been watching Vasquez play much last season..He dribbles the ball too long and is a poor shooter ..He's a borderline nba player ,but he's competitive and sees the floor well...If he wasnt 6'6,i dont think he would've gotten drafted...There are 1000's of players with skills similar to his bouncing around the D-League...
I'm surprise Memphis bought in another swingman/shooting guard when this team already have Tony Allen,Mayo,Xavier Henry and Sam Young..I thought they'll be looking for a backup center or someone better then Cummingham..Becuz after ZBo & Gasol they dont have any other quality big men ..But Poindexter did play well against them in the 2 preseason games they played against New Orleans...
Beg to differ Aran, Vasquez came up big several times in the playoffs for Memphis and ran the offense better than a lot of people thought he could. He was a better first round pick than you give him credit for and outplayed at least a couple of the players selected before him.
But really, merry Christmas to everyone.
you just don't know how good Pargo become while being in europ, he's a stud!
Pargo the new age Baron Davis 6'2" 219?
I really do hope Vasquez flourishes in NOLA, I really never thought he would go Round 1 so I hope he only goes up from this trade to possibly become a full time starter.
