A few things.
I don't mean to unnecesarily predicate on one particular player but Derrick Favors coming into his own (an on going process) is simply the best under covered story this year.
He IS Dwight Howard 2. something. He forces teams to play differently and hey thats what is most important to winning after all.

2.Learn to play smart. CHECK
3.Learn to make the opponent adjust to your play. (Or dominating) CHECK
He is obviously younger than Dwight but he is now almost on an identical trajectory as fas as career numerical paths go.
He has made the line up of Harris/Hayward/MillsapJefferson/Favors into one of the best defensive units in the entire league.
He is now taking starting caliber players completely out of their game. Did you see how he physically and mentally took Marcin Gortat (A player I really like and in fact thought was the missing piece to the Williams/Boozer squads) out of the game. He couldn't do anything about it either and he knew it. Not many players in this league have that affect.
Crazy to think that after all th speculation amongst the league and fans about who may leave during the off season the Jazz may hove found a real source of optimism. Harris/Hayward/Millsap/Jefferson/Favors with Kanter and Burks and maybe a GSW lotto pick off the bench. That is a killer line up. With the young players getting better this team is turning into something different.
And now to my thread point/question.
How will the series play out?
I cannot say enough for my respect for the Spurs franchise. They are the model. Maybe they got two of the greatest players ever(Duncan & Robinson) but hey they evaluated them just as they did Manu, TP, and Kawhi. Pop is the real star though. Best coach.
But they are old and thin up front. Tony parker will indeed get his, but Devin Harris hasn't exactly been slumping. Manu vs. G-Time/Burks is going to be in the favor of the Italian. Still I see this being extremely competive.
Thoughts bball fans?
i think utah can definitely make spurs life miserable and take them to 6, maybe 7. the huge X factor is wether or not devil harris shows up. in the month of april so far he's been playing good, doubling his 3s attempting 6 per game at a 42% clip. if he goes in the playoffs and manages to get 17 and 5 (like in april) the whole team will play better because he stretches the floor and gets others involved.
Is from argentina. Not from Italy although he played there. I think the spurs win but this is the begining of a great thing in Utah. I sincerly hope they go best avilable with that gs pick and dont reach for a point guard. Also Dragic would be a great add if they can. Utah has youth and two solid trade pieces in harris and jefferson for the future. Its an exciting time to be a jazz fan
now that i know how to post videos, i will surpass Mcdunkin!!!!!!!!!!!!
splitter still remembers that dunk
If Favors turns into Howard 2.0 I will go crazy. I'm watching Turner night in and night out, not getting along with the dam Coach and not progressing. Then I look at Monroe, Cousins (now), and Favors and I see the opposite. Unreal.
Favors reminds me a lot of tyson chandler. Anyone else dig?
I don't know how you can compare him to Dwight. Favors is a 4 while Dwight is a 5.
I don't think Favors is Dwight 2.0. Dwight is bigger, and obviously had more potential when he came into the league. Think about it, Dwight came into the league right out of highschool, and correct me if I'm wrong but he was dominant on the defensive side since his rookie year! Then he kept working on his offensive game and became dominant on that side too! But Favors is different. For one he's smaller (only 6'10) like I mentioned before, and he came into the L after his freshman year at college, but was not dominant right away like Dwight was. (not even on the defensive side) It took him 2 full years to become dominant on defense. His offense isn't bad but its not as good as his defense. So I'd say he's more Al Horford 2.0 not Dwight 2.0
Still he is dominant and will cause problems for the Spurs. The Spurs have never really had much of a problem with the Jazz in the past, but this is a different Jazz team than from the Stockton and Malone days or Dwill and Boozer days so I'd say Spurs win in 6 or 7 games.
Favors is not as explosive and nibble as Dwight, he doesn't have the spring or the defensive insticts the Dwight had at that age. I'm a Favors fan but Underkanters comparison to Horford more than to Dwight. Spurs will win in 5, Jazz guard play just isn't consistant enough though the Jazz front court controls the paint and gets at it on the glass they should win at least 1, maybe 2 games.
Sorry dude but Horford's not a good comp at all. Favors is much more athletic. Yes, Favors is shorter than Howard, but can he put up Howard like numbers in 35-40 min/night? I say yes. I say DEFINITELY yes. He will be an all-star and in the top 5 in rebounds, and blocks and get 18 night in the next two years. Write it down.
Favors and Howard are almost exacltly the same size, look up their NBA draft combine numbers. A quicker look would be to log onto utahjazz.com and click on LockedonJazz by David Locke. He has those comparative numbers in an article about Favors in todays postings. Favors may end up better than Howard, he has a better offensive game. Time will tell but he's looking better all the time.
i don't know if he will be better than howard but... dwight is 6'10
Agreed, I swear people make Dwight larger every year. He is between 6'10-6'11.
Favors has better people around him for his development than Dwight did at 20.
I see a top ten player in the league.
yea he's 6'10-6'11
He may have better people around him but remembers at about the same age Howard was averaging 15, and 12.
Favors is showing flashes but he hasnt averaged 10 points a game in any month yet this season, Howard doesnt have great post moves but Favors doesnt have the sheer athletacism and strength to dominate like Dwight does.
I understand hes showing flashes but so did Jerome James and that got him a huge contract, Heck Olawakandis rooki year he put up numbers similiar to Favors now.
He has plenty of potentiol but lets not crown him yet.
Ok I was wrong. Just checked draftexpress(I know I had to use a different site than this one because this site does not list measurements that far back), Dwight and Favors are both 6'10 and both have freakishly big wingspans (7'3, Favors and 7'4.5 Dwight) so Favors has about a 2 inch smaller wingspan but that's not gonna make that big of a difference. I could have sworn Dwight was 7'0. I guess this is why Dwight and Durant look the same height standing right next to each other.
I still don't see the comparison between Dwight and Favors. That to me is just a pipedream. Yes, he will be an allstar, but right now its just too early to be comparing him to a future HOF. Maybe he's more like a taller Elton Brand (back in his Bulls and Clipper days)
