Utah Jazz Manager Dennis Lindsey Was In Athens To See Giannis Adetokoubo
Lindsey attended the game in Athens between the junior teams of Filathlitkos and Panathinaikos. Several NBA scouts were also there.
It is said that the Utah manager and NBA scouts were very impressed by the 18 year old Adetokoubo. It is also said that they were also interested in the 7 foot 17 year old Greek center Georgios Diamantakos, who also was playing, and caught their notice.
It is also said that the NBA people were extremely impressed with the 16 year old Greek player Vasileios Charalampopoulos, that also played in the game, and that he is now going to be closely monitored by the NBA teams that were represented there.
For the sake of announcers everywhere I sincerely hope these guys don't make the NBA.
I'm already looking forward to getting to hear Adam Silver trying to pronounce these names at the draft, even if it may not be for another 4 years.
These names are not really that hard to pronounce.
Giannis Adetokoubo pronunciation = Yawnis Ahdaytokubo
Georgios Diamantakos pronunciation = Yorgos Diamontacos
Vasileios Charalampopoulos pronunciation = Basilis Hairalabopullus
It's really not that hard to pronounce these. As far as Greek games are concerned, some are much harder to pronounce than these.
Diamond Tacos. I dont care who he is, what position he plays, how bad he is, I WANT HIM ON MY TEAM.
adetokoubo is the guy being compared to Batum when he was comming over right? from what i read about him, he's very raw but has extremely intriguing physical prospects. thats where the comparison could lay in, not the skills but the potential due to physical attributes. not really his athletic gifts, but rather his length, coordination, frame, hands and mobility. he also seems like a very raw prospect at this point.
if i were a gm, i would definitely use a mid-to-late 1st round pick on him so that i can stash him away in europe where he doesnt seem to mind while he gets better and improves. i think the fact that he doesnt mind going that route is a big upside to his draft stock. in a weak draft as this, why not give a guaranteed contract on a boom or bust prospect who doesnt mind improving without having to pay him with the rookie scale. this way, if he develops and comes over in a few years, he'll be a bargain.
No. Adetokoubo is not "extremely raw". Where did you read that? He's already quite a bit more skilled than Batum is and he's only 18.
There is nothing "raw" at all about Adetokoubo. He needs a little work on his jump shots mechanics but that is it. He's probably one of the most skilled players in the entire draft.
in the site thats not allowed to be mentioned here. they have a good article on him and honest to say, extremely non bias. they site all his positives as well as his negatives. he's a prospect for the nba, not a player. he can be good for the league, but not currently.
and he hasnt played against top level talent for most of his life which contributes to a lack of experience on the court and his decision making is affected by it. he's a good passer and tries to get his teammates involved but sometimes thats not the best option to take. his defensive potential is off the roof but currently is being relied on his length and not being displayed against top talent again. he has good instincts on blocking shots and going for the rebound, but doesnt have the fundamentals to do it yet. meaning, you put a body on him and i dont think he'll be able to grab as much rebounds due to not having the strength to battle against being boxed out. he's a good ball handler but dominantly goes to his right.
like a said, he's raw. he's got the tools to excel in the next level, but far from a prodigy who is beyond his years. he's only 18 and can become a very good player if he's able to put it all together.
He's not "raw".
that the best you got? no bias opinion to back up your claim? come on man, i know youre more entertaining than that. lets it hear it. lets hear the rebutle you got. you know youre just dying to make one of your long ass posts claiming racisim as the main reason people have a different perception as yours without actually getting into a legit debate on a prospect, sticking on basketball related criteria.
now, here i am, acknowledging Adetokoubo as a legit prospect and 1st round pick in this years draft. saying he's still raw for the NBA and citing my reasons for saying so, but you come back and say he aint and leave it at that?
