    • Sacromento Kings – I know that this team is the joke of the NBA (other than the 76ers) because of their offseason moves and acquisitions. But I really believe they have a pretty underrated offseason and they made moves that will have them in contention for the eight seed in the western conference. In free agency/draft they got Rajon Rondo, Marco Belineli, Caron Butler, Willie Cauley-Stein, Seth Curry, and Kosta Koufos. If this was any other team we will say that they had a great offseason. Rajon Rondo is not washed as many want to believe. Yes, he had a horrible stint with Dallas, but everyone knew when the trade went down that he wasn’t a great fit with Monta Ellis and the Dallas system. Belineli is a great shooter, Caron Butler is a good veteran, Willie Cauley-Stein is a great defensive prospect, Kosta Koufos is a great back big, and George Karl is one of the better coaches in the history of the NBA.A starting lineup of Rajon Rondo, Darren Collison, Caron Butler, Rudy Gay, and DeMarcus Cousins looks like a good starting lineup
    • Washington Wizards – I believe most people overrate the lost of Paul Pierce and what he ment to the Wizards. Don’t get me wrong he was great down the stretch in the playoffs and a key reason the beat the Raptors and was in the series vs the Hawks. But, most people don’t know that Paul Pierce wasn’t good in about 70% of the Wizards regular season games that a lot of Wizards fans wanted to bench him in the favor of Otto Porter Jr.. Last season the Wizards weakness was their lack of wing depth and the lack of three point shooting. The Wizards addressed those issues in than some. They added Gary Neal, Alan Anderson, and Jared Dudley who are great three point shooters ( and they selected Kelly Oubre in the draft ). Their playoffs success came from the use of the stretch 4 than Paul Pierce. John Wall played better with the stretch 4 as well as Bradley Beal, Otto Porter, and Marcin Gortat. The Wizards addressed their issues by adding 3 pointers on the wing (Neal and Anderson) and a pretty good stretch 4 (Jared Dudley). A lot of  people have them barely making the playoffs but I see them competing for the number 2 seed and that they won’t be worse than the 4th seed in the eastern conference

New York gets mixed feelings about their off-season, but I’m one who believes they did a great job. They did not hit the home run, instead they added valuable cheap pieces to their roster.

Robin Lopez: He may have cost 1-2 million too much but it’s still a great signing. Efficient inside player who protects the paint. Does not need the ball in his hands and he has good IQ. He is also a great locker room guy whom Melo will love.

Aron Afflalo: SOLID. All I can say. Can post up, hit threes and facilitate. Also, at this age, he is now a solid veteran that could do no harm to a team, and he cost 8 million!! 7 million less than Demarre Carroll! Steal.

Kyle O’Quinn: Now this guy is a true steal/diamond in the rough. For 4 million, you get a Center who could pass the rock with the best of them, as well as hit jumpers and block shots. He will fit in great in the triangle and he might get the starting nod alongside RoLo while they bring in Kristaps slowly.

Derrick Williams: I know I know, a lot of people have given up on this guy. But he’s still a good NBA player nonetheless. For 5 million, you get an athletic combo forward off the bench who could also hit threes and create off the dribble. With the Kings, when given playing time, he contributes and does not dissapoint. I don’t know but before they traded for Gay, Williams played awesome and looked like the 2nd pick everybody was raving about. Could backup Melo or start at the 4.

Jerian Grant: They traded all 3 no D wing Tim Hardaway Jr. for this kid? Steal!! Jerian Grant will be perfect for their offense because he is a gritty floor general in the truest form, much like Calderon but with the defense. He’s a point guard who would not mind givinig the ball in the high post to Melo/any other big to set up the offense. He also could be effective off the ball. Perfect point guard for the Knicks.

Kristaps Porzingis: This guy is the future of the Knicks. Everything within the organization will depend on his development, since Melo is not getting any younger. Also, when was the last time the Knicks had a potential face of the franchise that they DRAFTED? It feels so much better to root for an athlete your team drafted and groomed since their rookie seasons. It gives fans a sense of personalization. Free agents are nice, but sometimes, you gotta have those draft picks.

Agreed Lopez was kinda a stretch but other than that they don’t really have bad contracts. I also think Derrick Williams didn’t land on the right teams to showcase his talents, I like him in the triangle. It’s going to be interesting what happens, I would not rule out if Melo’s supporting cast does well, Phil will ship them for another star just like the Knicks did in 2011.

I think one silent winner is definitely Indiana despite losing west and Hibbert. They get a huge scoring punch in the starting lineup with Ellis joining PG on the wing. Get wing and big depth with adding Budinger and Hill. Christmas and Joe Young are ready to play now and they are still relatively young for NBA players. And Turner at the worst might be just be a big who can stretch the floor and block shots, at best he can be a big time rookie and make steady improvements to be a NBA all-star by his 3rd year. No matter what I see Vogel able to make him fill a void and maybe a lot more than that. I also like Glenn Robinson III, get him for relatively nothing and he might end up being a surprise and help this team for years to come. This team will make the playoffs and they got a high ceiling for not just this coming year but years to come.

It went largely unnoticed how well the FO rallied down the stretch. Enough to, at the very least, contend for an 8, 7 or (maybe even) 6 seed.

Meanwhile, the offseason successes of Sacramento and Washington are still TBD, IMO.

They overpaid for DeMarre Carroll and Cory Joseph, but they provide the defense and grit that Toronto needed around it’s core and are great team players. Louis Will and Vasquez both needed the ball too much which meant Toronto had too many players trying to eat up possessions and any offensive advantage was negated by a defense which ranked 25th. It was a mess in the playoffs. I think losing them will give Valanciunas an opportunity to make a jump to 15-10-2.

They lost Amir Johnson (a "good" player that somehow isn’t that good at anything) and replaced him with Luis Scola, and Biyombo. James Johnson who was very effective and is a versatile defender will also pick up some of the minutes and Patrick Patterson is still there as a good stretch 4.

I like the starting lineup of Lowry, Derozen, Carroll, (one of their PF’s), and Valanciunas, with Terrence Ross, Other PF’s, Cory Joseph, Biyombo off the bench. The team has more versatility than it had last year. They have some young players of interest too.

They won 49 and 48 games the past two years, I think they can win 50 this year and will be more of a matchup that people don’t want to face. I see top-12 offense and defense potential. Somehow they’ve been a team predicted to fall in the standings. (American bias? lol)

Most people predict a slip up due to the fact that Toronto hasn’t proved anything and the eastern conference has gotten better.

I think Wesley Johnson is a very underrated signing by the Clippers. Sure he’s a bust, but I think he can replace Barnes and be better than him as a defender who can make an open three. He will also be very good for them as a lob target in transition.

Unless, of course, the Clippers start Paul Pierce, which I think they shouldn’t.

Johnson is one of those guys that’s just extremely frustrating to watch. He has the physical tools to be a great defender, but he’s just not. His ball-handling and decision making is horrific and he isn’t really a consistent shooter. I agree that they got him for a bargain, as he can do some useful things on the court, but I’m not sure he is an upgrade over Barnes.

He looks like he can defend so people think he can actually defend.  He’s shown he cannot defend and won’t start to defend.  As a matter of fact he hasn’t shown anything where we can call him a serviceable player.

Could that be because he has always been on terrible teams? I honestly haven’t seen enough of him to be sure, I may be wrong.

When the Lakers got him, I thought they might be getting a steal and he could blossom under d’antoni but he didnt. Hes one of those guys that has all the physical tools, but just lacks the basketball iq. When you watch him play its easy to see why he has bounced around so much.
