Not everyone who is, or becomes a fan of basketball appreciates the underdog or superstar player that has gradually built his following. I for one, used to be one of those type of people to let the superstar be free from my hold on them as I’ve watched them reach their level of success. It’s as if I only supported the underrated guy, just off the strength of him not having a core following but as soon as he receives the recognition he worked hard for, I would release him into the wild like an animal that has been caged in a zoo, then it would be the next man up.

Now that I realize their windows have been closing quicker than ever to last longer than expected, I’m starting to hold on to these superstar players a little more than in my past to appreciate their legacy before they call it quits.

Are there any members on the boards that have placed themselves in a similar situation while supporting players from the ground up?

I started a KEVIN DURANT IS THE SUPER FREAK Facebook page before his rookie season started.

Did you distance yourself from your initial support?

Only thing I can remember is I called Paul George a future star/superstar after his rookie season due to his skillset on here about 5 years ago and I got negged pretty rough for it, if that’s what you mean by your post.

But did you distance yourself once he started to create a crazy buzz for himself?

I think it depends on the superstar. Personally, I like my superstars humble, which pretty much means there’s very few I stick with. Shaq, LeBron, Kobe – all too arrogant for my liking. Grant Hill was the last "superstar" I stuck with throughout. Hopefully Simmons doesn’t get too big a head or I’ll ditch him too lol.
