ucla vs arizona, battle for first in pac 10 tommorow

ill bump this thread tommorow during the game to make comments. Arizona (23-5) is coming off thjeir first loss in 8 games and will look to bounce back at UCLA (20-8). The bruins are playing well winning 7 of their last 8 with one loos on the road in ot. The top 2 NBA prospects in tyler honeycutt and derrick williams going at it. Should be a good game.

Arizona won the first meeting and you know Derrick Williams is gonna be hungry comnig off his worst game of the season vs USC. But i think the bruins at home take it with a size advantage up front and being a better defensive team.

22-21 ucla 12 minutes in. The

22-21 ucla 12 minutes in. The pace is in arizona's favor though. Its a back and forth scoring game with sub par defense on display and that is defenitely arizonas preferred style and ucla is the more likely to go cold team who would prefer an ugly game.

Tyler honeycutt has been very aggressive. He already has 8 shots up and only one of those from 3. He has really fallen in love with the 3 pointer recently and right now he is putting his head down and attacking the rim.

36-28 ucla arizona is just

36-28 ucla

arizona is just not a good defensive team and its been that way all season. They can run and score with anyone, but i think both ucla and washington will have more success in the ncaa tournament.

derrick williams is doing his thing though. 13 points. Nailed a contested 3 on one possesion and then comes right back and makes a crossover move and hits a tough left handed double clutch shot in the paint on the next play. NBA ready offensive player.

40-30 ucla at the half reeves

40-30 ucla at the half

reeves nelson is having his way with 16 and 10 already. I wouldnt say hes beating dwill becasue most the baskets are off dribble penetration and nelson is just filling the open spot and getting baskets while williams is out of position.

yeah, when i do these threads

yeah, when i do these threads i do them for my own personal amusement, if someone reads them good but i dont worry if im having a one on one convo, lol.

Honeycutt has 11 points and is lloking good but right now the bruins are dominating the paint with nelson and josh smith punking dwill and the zona bigs so honeycutt is chilling at the moment. 51-30 ucla is pulling away and making it look easy.

The Pac-10 still sucks this

The Pac-10 still sucks this year.

SDSU in the Mountain West and Arizona in the Pac-10 are the two most overrated squads in college hoops this year.

They both haven't beaten anyone. At least UCLA beat BYU and St. John's.

I know that Arizona beat UCLA and UDub but whatever those aren't great teams.

I don't think UCLA is that good but I at least give them props for beating BYU and the Johnnies.

arizona is overrated, no

arizona is overrated, no question. UCLA is more then just 2 solid wins though, They are a legit team and can hang with anyone, and you can call that me being a homer if you want, but they have improved very much since the begining of the year. 18 wins in their last 21 games and now blowing arizona out. Washington is also very good and to me they are still the best team in the pac 10, they just have some head scratching losses. USC and washington state are both solid teams just havent done enough to get in the tournament but could still possibly win the pac 10 tournament to get in.

I would take the pac 10 over the mountain west though just like last year when the mountain west was supposed to be better but the pac 10's 2 invites in the torunament got more wins then the mountain west's 4 invites did andthat included washginton smacking new mexico around in the second round.

final score: ucla 71 arizona

final score: ucla 71 arizona 49

reeves nelson was the star of the show with 27 points and 16 rebounds

also good to see john woodens grandson score his first ever ucla points in the final minute, the crowd went crazy for that.

derrick williams was great in the opening 10-15 minutes but then went completely awol and was ineffective at both ends the court.

tyler honeycutt was solid playing within the flow of the offense after an aggressive start, finished with 15 points 5 boards 3 assists and 3 blocks.

Josh smith continues to be the big difference maker. WHen he gets touches against smaler teams he is a major game changer.17 points tonight and led the team with 4 assists drawing double teams and passing out of it.

UCLA

I agree. The Bruins have proved that they can hang with any team. They played very well against Kansas, only to lose on an unfortunate call. They played Villanova close until Nova pulled away at the end. The main issue with the Bruins is consistency. I feel like the biggest gauge of how well UCLA plays is Josh Smith. When he is able to stay on the floor and be a low-post threat, UCLA generally play very well. I'm excited to see how well we play in the tournament. The Bruins could easily be upset in the first round or make a solid run.
