Why is it that players coming out of UCLA never have NBA ready bodies. Maybe Westbrook but he has added muscle since his UCLA days. Josh Smith, Kyle Anderson, Drew Gordon, Bazz Muhammad, Jordan Adams, Kevin Love. Even Lavine is a toothpick. Every year they play with high end draft prospects and those prospects are out of shape by NBA standards.

Drew Gordon played his last two years at New Mexico.  Josh Smith is now at Georgetown.  Everybody else on the list played at UCLA for either one or two years.  It’s hard for somebody in their early twenties to be ready physically for the NBA.

Yea it’s call the no boys allowed league for a reason. I think while most kids come into the league and have to physical mature I think they have to emotionally and psychologically mature too. I think that makes a huge difference

Well, Randle, Gordon, Exum, James Young, Andrew Wiggins, etc etc etc have NBA ready bodies. Of course they might bulk up some, but I agree with OhCanada

Randle, Gordon, and smart have nba ready bodies but I don’t think wiggins, exum, or James young do. Wiggins is barely 200 lbs at SG/SF, I might give you exum but that’s because he is probably going to guarding a lot of 1’s but bigger and stronger 2’s can post him up.  James young needs to add more muscle because he isn’t that quick so he needs to add strength to body defenders more

i think the real question some may have for ucla is that every year the program seems to go under the radar in college ball but then come draft time, there always seems to be guys cmoing out of westwood that are high draft prospects that people didnt pay attention to in college. jrue holiday, lavine, westbrook, love are some of the more obvious examples of guys that didnt get the same level of attention in college that they are as draft prospects.

I know their strength and conditioning program has had a high turnover over the last 5 years. Once Howland was let go the basketball strength and conditioning coach, whom had only been there for two years, was let go as well, but he’s working for the Clippers now. The UCLA S&C program does not seem a very strong one considering the money and history.
