The Kings guard suffered a sprained ankle on the tuesday..That had him sit out the rest of the week..Evans feels he won't be invited back for the August 10-16 training camp in New York...And The World Championship in Turkey..
Evans havent practice with the team and feel it would not be fair for those that did practice..I'll just go home get some rest and get ready for the start of the regular season..USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo pretty much agreed, saying it'll be hard for him to make the team if he havent practice..But you never know becuz we havent made any final decisions about who is on the team....
He honestly was never a good fit for the team anyway....
yeah, i think he was invited more for long term purposes in future years, cant see how he ouwld have fit in on this team. What time is the game on tonight?
Well would he not be a better fit than Rondo? I mean they already have Rose/Westbrook/Billups at PG... At SG they have Gordon and Mayo--And Evans as an overall talent may be better than them (even though they shoot better) and he can play 3 positions.
I'm not really following it too much so I could be wrong on who they have. But either way, go rest up Reke the Kings don't need you hurt.
Yeah im a kings fan and i kind of saw that happening with many similar guys in derrick rose and russell westbrook etc (guards that get to the rim) If he played point then he couldve worked out but coach k was saying he would have guys play out of position and tyreke's jumper isnt solid enough to play off the ball quite yet. I still believe he will improve his jumper this season to a somewhat consistent 15-20 footer. It'll be to the point where he'll be an even more effective driver because people will begin to step out to respect him more than last year
two edges i would give rondo over evans is defense and the fact he is a naturall pass first pg. Those two things might get him a spot. But evans is more of a slasher who needs to dribble the rock and penetrate and thats not really what this team needs this right now.
Evans would have been a top choice for me for Team USA. Obviously last year he can play with anyone, fourth rookie to average 20-5-5, but he would have been great for Team USA because of his bruising style of play. You never know when international play is going to get very physical, and Evans is a truck. I could even see Rondo getting a bit flustered if he has a Vujacic-type player (who's actually skilled) riding him the whole game. Evans is going to be a major part of USA basketball, maybe even the face of it with KD and co. in the future.
TEAM USA Basketball game will be on ESPN 2...AT 9 CENTRAL..
Rondo might not make the team, but if he does he's a much better playmaker and defender. The team doesn't need a guy that absolutely needs the ball to be effective like Evans.
Evans can play SG at this level, but I think they'd much rather just add Curry, who can play both guard spots too. Evans is a good player, but in FIBA basketball he's not a very good fit really.
"I could even see Rondo getting a bit flustered if he has a Vujacic-type player (who's actually skilled) riding him the whole game."
Lol, really? You could see Rondo getting flustered by that? By a "Vujacic-type player"?
As a fan of Evans I would have really liked to see him compete on the team, but to tell you the truth, neither him nor Rondo are really a great fit yet to play in that type of environment. Tyreke could get to that point but he first needs to improve his decision making (which should come with more experience) and his outside shooting. I think if he had those it would be hard to deny him a spot.
My prediction-White team wins--Too much backcourt talent
if they were playing for real and not just scrimmage, def white. They have the 2 best players Durant and Curry
My question is how did they decide to put certain players in which group?
Whut are they lookin for?
I don't think u guys watch reke at all sayn he can't play d...Uh didn't u see him stop agent zero and won the game he picked his pocket clean... Rondo lets people go by him so he can hook them for the steal that's not playn d and he gets beat by random pgs or atleast lets them penetrate the ball...
Who said he can't play D? He's a solid defender, but better than Rondo? Nope....
He's not an awful defender but he needs improvement. Also moments don't make a good defender. Good defenders stay at the same level throughout a game, not just at big moments, not just when things are going for them on the offensive end. Also stopping Gilbert in one of his few games is not something to brag about. BTW Gilbert did have 33 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists with Reke guarding him most of the game, so I wouldn't brag about Reke "shutting him down." Granted his big strip won them the game, but again isolated moments don't make a good defender. He reached on that Arenas play for the game, Arenas just as likely could have blown by him the other way while he was reaching. I won't call it luck but I wouldn't use that as an example of him being a good defender. He's got the tools to be a good defender but he's not there right now.
For the Kings fans, it's actually a blessing in disguise.
Quite a lot of players had injuries or bad season after playing in the world games. It usually take months for the players to get back to 100% after not resting in the summer, so for Tyreke Evans to miss team USA, it's not a bad thing for the Kings.
Also, the team has a lot of depth in guards, Rondo, Rose, Westbrook, Curry, Billups, etc. His game does not really fit for the international game (which require a lot of shooting) as there is not defensive 3-sec in international game, so it will significantly decrease Evans' efficiently because he's best at slashing.
He should better rest and develop his game (improve his shooting) and prepare for the NBA season than playing for team USA (which doesn't really need him).
I dont get how people say evans' game doesnt translate to FIBA basketball. Rondo shot 62 percent from the free throw line last season while shooting 21 percent from three. How does that translate to FIBA basketball?
^^ What's that have to do with Reke though? Pretty much everyone is in agreement that neither are great fits for the FIBA style.
There was just some debate going on whether or not people would rather have rondo or reke on the team. Threw in my 2 cents.
The FIBA style is different than NBA style basketball. FIBA use international/Euro rules or whatever. You can't throw in a bunch of dribble drive players and expect to be effective. Especially in the half court in FIBA, you HAVE to have reliable shooters on the floor. Yeah, we got away with it in the Olympics, but we were just that much better than everyone else and that is how we did it. We killed teams on the fast break, but we did have trouble in half court against the 2-3 zone. Granted, not too much trouble to stop us from blowing teams out but trouble, nonetheless. Evans wouldn't be a good player in FIBA at all, and especially against the zone that international teams use against us. At best, Evans would be a good player to exploit some mismatches by coming off the bench, but he is not the ideal perimeter player against a zone defense IMO.
