I’m not to terribly high on either of these players, but of the two who in my opinion have similar skill sets, size and charachter issues will amount to the better NBA player. Both would have gone pro after high school if that were still an option, but does Orton become the better player after his one year at UK or does Tyler after going overseas. I just wanted to see what some of you guys opinions were on these two players, and which one will be better in the long run as well as immediate impact in the NBA.

Tyler is too unknown for me to even comment, but Orton I think will be a bum, he’ll look like less of a bum cause he was taking real late in the first as opposed to lottery to mid first round. I’m not even talking about his summer league performance which was awful, In all his workouts trainers threw this guy and entry pass he would blatantly travel and go on to dunk it like nothing was wrong. I do not expect this guy to be much more than an 10th-12th man down the road with extended stints in the D league, i guess i’m hatin a little bit and hope he proves me wrong, but as of right now I see him as someone who missed out on a great opportunity to improve over a 3-4 year career at Kentucky.

I think orton if he can get his mind right he has a chance Tyler didnt get much playing time in Isreal, but maybe the practices helped his game…in japan i dont see his bad attitude being as much of a problem, but at the same time the competition level is awful

by the way i dont know if this has been posted since its pretty old..but Orton was saying he wished he had gone to kansas

    http://kansascity.sbnation.com/2010/6/23/1533655/daniel-orton-kansas-kentucky-nba-draft-first-round

where he would have been in the same limited playing time position right?

I think he is bigger than Orton, and I am pretty sure he is better than Orton as well. I would maybe not be as quick to judge people as quickly as many have judged Daniel Orton after an underwhelming single year at Kentucky and a poor Summer League, but I also do not think he was close to as highly rated out of high school as Jeremy Tyler. Jeremy Tyler is more athletic and just longer than Daniel Orton, to me I think their is very little doubt he is the better pro prospect. I think Daniel Orton benefited from playing on a stacked front court at Kentucky and he is seen as potential with a huge frame and his ability to rebound and be a potentially strong defender. Also, the Magic drafted him knowing he will pretty much be a back-up center. Seeing that he was the 28th pick, that is not a terrible thing to gamble on, and since he is seen as someone with potential, than I would say they probably either will take a pay-off or just deal him. Pretty low risk. Jeremy Tyler had well publicized issues in Israel, but the kid is really big, like, I am talking DeMarcus Cousins type wingspan. He will have to work on conditioning, and does not have the low post skill set of Cousins, but he definitely has a lot of potential, and I would not be surprised at all if he were a mid first round pick based off of that. For Tyler, it is not only about showing he can compete at the professional level, but I think a lot of it will be attitude and the mental aspect. He seemed to blame a lot on other people, and I do not really think that impressed anyone. If he takes things on himself and just practices and plays hard, than I think it will be hard for many teams to pass him up. If he were ranked in his high school class this year, I am guessing he would still have to be top 5-10, and he definitely would have to be top 5 in por potential. Reaching that potential is where the mental aspect comes in, and that would be a strong reason to maybe think twice about picking him. But, to me, I would say Jeremy Tyler will be a better pro than Daniel Orton.

I remember KU was in the mix for Lance Stephenson, Xavier Henry, and Dan Orton. I think he would have played a little more, than at UK, but not a whole lot, maybe put up 6 and 5 in 15 min. He still would have complained and left after the first year. Hindsight is 20/20, but I don’t think it would have made that big of differance.

I never saw anything in Daniel Orton at Kentucky, considering all the “hype” he was getting, you think I would have seen some glimpses of his potential. I saw nothing. And his Summer League is a minor outlook. I was never high on him before the SL anyways, so that just solidified my thoughts of him. He could always turn it around, I just don’t see it…

Thank you my man. I would love to write articles and contribute to a site. I e-mailed Aran on a couple of different occasions, not asking for a job but for feedback, and unfortunately never heard back, though I am not at all mad at him. For now, I just like looking in and writing, as well as maybe coming up with the occasional idea that keeps people thinking. But, if I ever do start a blog, I no doubt appreciate feedback, in agreement or otherwise.

how can anyne say they have seen orton have the potential to be a good rebounder?..he asnt one at kentucky and in hs he was the biggest thing on the floor by far. i doubt think he was ranked nearly as high as tyler either(tyler of course dropped when he decided to go overseas but before that was a top 5 player). the only truthful thing anyone can say about orton is that hes big….thats pretty much it. and you cant say much more about tyler since he’s unproven
