cg085hParticipantwhy isn’t Tyler Ennis a 2014 prospect he puts good numbers. Personally i like him better than Andrew Harrison and i think his overall game is more NBA read than Harrison.

dcaseParticipantI hope Ennis keeps flying under the radar. That way he doesn’t make a bad decision to enter the 2014 draft. The longer he stays in college the better for Syracuse basketball!

Moon RiverParticipantAmen dcase. He is a good prospect but he is not a one and done guy. Especially in the 2014 draft class. He better stay healthy too because the Orange have zero depth at the point.

dcaseParticipantTo be honest they don’t have much depth at either guard spot. After Ennis and Cooney there is only Gbinije. I know they have Ron Patterson, but he isn’t likely to contribute this year. On the other hand they are stacked along the front line (Fair, Grant, Christmas, Coleman, Keita)…..shoot Tyler Roberson doesn’t even get off the bench. I am looking forward to watching this team get bettter and better as the year goes on. If Ennis and Cooney can keep up their play, the Cuse can make some serious noise in the tournament.

Moon RiverParticipantYou are 100% correct. Over in Maui they had Gbinije play a little point and he clearly was not comfortable doing that. If anything Fair might be their next best ball handler. If they can keep the backcourt healthy, they will be a tough out in the tourney and that is all you can ask for.

machu46ParticipantFair is not a good ball-handler at all. He loses the ball pretty much anytime he takes more than 3 dribbles. Gbinije has been a little shaky with it too, but he, Cooney, and probably the freshman guards (Patterson and Johnson) are better ball-handlers than CJ.

machu46ParticipantNot all that surprising to me that he isn’t being talked about as a 2014 prospect. I think he’ll be at Syracuse at least 3 years, if not all 4. He’s playing extremely well for a college player, but I think he’s more in the mold of a Scottie Reynolds (meaning that he’s just a good college player) than he is a MCW (Solid college player, but great NBA prospect).
Ennis is listed at 6’2", but he seems smaller than that to me just from seeing him around campus and stuff. And I don’t think he has NBA athleticism at all. I think his 35% from 2 point range kinda shows that. He’s going to have a very hard time scoring inside in the NBA because he really struggles vertically. I think he’ll have to get a lot quicker, and become more aggressive if he wants to be a 1st round pick someday. I’m also hoping that he’ll get out and run the fast break more as the season goes on. Right now, he’s been really hesitant/it seems like everyone is able to catch up to him before he can capitalize on fast break opportunities.
We’ll see. Regardless, as a Cuse fan, it’s exciting to see how much he’s already improved just from the first couple of games where he looked pretty disappointing IMO. He’s playing great basketball right now.
I think Trevor Cooney could end up getting a shot at least in the Summer League by the time he’s done here too. He’s an incredible shooter, and he works so hard on the defensive end.

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantAgreed, i think he is a 2 year player though. Hes one of the best Pure PG in the country. Hes a natural leader, love his game

machu46ParticipantHe’s definitely not one of those vocal/rah-rah kinda leaders (I think Cooney has surprisingly become that guy for SU this year), but I think Ennis is one of those guys where he can be a great leader because he always looks like he’s calm, cool, and collected. I think it works well for teammates to see their PG looking like he’s not worried or not too hyped up at all. More of a leader by example type.
It would be really nice if DaJuan Coleman could step it up and claim that center spot as his own. He’s the only big guy that can catch the basketball. I’d really like to see them be able to run the pick-and-roll.

Darth DivacParticipantI like him a lot. He just has a really nice all-around game. Not the biggest guard, but has that Devin Harris/Ty Lawson speed to him.

machu46ParticipantWhat? I’m a Syracuse fan, but Harris and Lawson especially are two of the fastest players in the NBA. Ennis isn’t fast even relative to his teammates. Syracuse is usually one of the best fast break teams in the country, and this year, it’s non-existant because he just doesn’t get down the court fast enough/is hesitant in the open court. There’s a lot to like about Ennis, especially considering he’s a freshman, but speed is not one of those things.

Chill_dude03ParticipantI’ve always liked Tyler Ennis game. Every since he was a junior in high school. He’s not the quickest or most athletic player but he gets to where he wants to be on the floor. He can spread the ball around, plays solid defense, can drive to the basket at will, very high basketball IQ. I just think he needs to work on his jumper a little more. He knows how to manage a game. Similar to the way Tyus Jones manages a game.

machu46ParticipantDefinitely this. Though I wish he’d play a little harder on the defensive end. Maybe it’s because he’s next to Cooney, who has one of the best motors I’ve seen from a Syracuse player in awhile, but it seems like Ennis closes out pretty slow on shooters and gets beaten off the dribble pretty often. He does have an awesome knack for being able to poke the ball loose though.
And I think his jumper is fine. What he needs to work on on the offensive end is just being more aggressive. I love that he gets everyone involved, but he passes up a lot of driving lanes and open shots in the process, and I think if he made defenses pay a little more whenever they give him an opening, it would take our offense to the next level.

Striver347ParticipantNice prospect. Perfect Euro PG, not so sure how he’ll fare against NBA caliber guards although his skill is undeniable. Reminds me a lot of Cory Joseph of San Antonio.
