Teague to Pacers, George Hill to Utah

Reported during Cavs Parade. I’m sure there’s more to come

The 12th pick only Nets you George Hill now a days?  Holy cow.  George Hill was traded for what,. The 14th pick whole he was in his prime lol.  Utah gets pillaged here IMO.

I think it means the draft is not able to give the Jazz a player that they would want or give significant minutes.

Also the fact that they are not directly getting Teague is probably because of returning Dante Exum, who they think will end up starting again when healthy, and Hill’s versatility is perfect as he is able to play the 2 (and Rodney Hood can play the 3). That gives them a decent perimeter rotation.

I just don’t see Hill moving the needle much.  Hope I am wrong, but in three years that 12th pick will almost certainly be better than Hill.  I like it for Indiana and Atlanta though.

"Almost certainly"?? Can we really say that a late lotto pick in any draft will ‘almost certainly’ be better than a starting caliber guard who plays both ends?

I know everyone loves the mystery of draft picks, and of course there’s chance that pick turns out to be a home run, but that chance is historically very small. The Jazz are obviously looking to get into the playoffs, and are taking the sure thing.

think utah is getting a good deal, george hill for the 12th pick, im kind of surprised that atlanta was okay with that since they were asking for nerlens noel in the deadline. teague to the pacers though does help them speed up the tempo, i wonder though if theyll keep montay or try to move him for an outside sniper

Its interesting that they gave up their starting point guard for a pick. I always have Boston in the back of my mind. I wonder if they are gonna try to package Horford and picks to Boston if Horford agrees to resign, and then use the 3 pick on their favourite rookie

Reaching for Malachi or Murray ?

Maybe for a better bigmen since they’re thin and could be thinner.

I like Teague to the Pacers I think he will be a good fit there. Hill to Utah for the 12th pick? He’s a 30 year old PG on a deal that expires after this season. I don’t like this trade for Utah

Trade is OK for the Jazz only if Hayward stays and they’re in PO contention mode.

A player fitting to their mold, 3 and D, off guard, length.

If hawyard is traded, stupid move IMO.

This draft is so impossible to predict, nobody knows which prospects are rated highest, nobody knows which team picks at which spot lol. 3rd, 4th, 5th picks all being shopped, 12th just traded.

You gotta figure that Utah also gets the 20th pick from Indy in this trade otherwise Hill for a lotto pick seems a bit steep.

That would ease my mind as a Utah fan.  Just don’t see the straight-up being a great deal.

Jazz seem to have a real ability to get value in the later first round, (See Hood, Gobert) so having the 20th pick would turn things from bad to great move.

Great deal for the Pacers. Getting Jeff Teague for George Hill is a significant upgrade. I don’t get the deal for Utah if they only get George Hill in return for the #12 pick. I feel like they could’ve gotten more for the pick.

Seems like they like long, defensive players. A defensive point guard tandem of Exum and Hill could be tough, but I think Teague is the better player overall

I hope Indiana makes more moves in terms of getting a big SG as Teague and Ellis scares me defensively against other back-courts. Ellis is the ideal 6th man and could play 28-30mpg off the bench.

What I like the most about this is that Indiana does not need to spend money on Conley and have maintained their cap space to get Mahinmi back along with a couple of younger pieces.

I really hope they throw some cash at Evan Fournier!!!

“Sources tell ESPN’s Marc Stein that the Hawks plan to shop the No. 12 as well as the 21st overall pick in Thursday night’s draft, in hopes of creating further financial flexibility that would allow them to re-sign big man Al Horford and swingman Kent Bazemore.”

That speaks well of this draft.

As the starting PG IMO. Hill is a good PG if you have a SG/SF who you run the offense through, Hayward is OK at that but not so great that you don’t need a legit PG on the floor.

George Hill will be the 6th man and with a winning background in Utah, he will be able to show some of the younger guys what works and keep them calm in crunch time.
Hill hit quite a few game winners in Indiana and/or was untrusted with the ball in the clutch pre-Ellis.

With there being talk Utah have turned down top 5 pick for Teague then I feel that Atlanta haven’t got a great return for Teague, The Pacers have upgraded their PG from Hill to Teague effectively. Looks like their GM Kevin Pritchard has pulled off one of his great draft time steals. Remember when he got LMA for Tyrus Thomas and a Euro guy a decade ago.

The Hawks are now in an interesting situation, could they be getting strong vibes that Horford won’t resign so they are amassing some decent picks to restock the roster around Shroeder and Millsap. They will also have a huge wedge of cap space which their front office has the potential to use wisely.

nothing is official yet, but you are right does’nt look like it. So Either ATL just clearing cap space and will move the newly aqd pick as well, or they are blowing it up. I am leaning towards the latter as thier best move as I doubt Horford returns even with the space. Still can’t wrap my head around why utah would do this despite Hill not needing the ball to be effective and might be a good fit next to Haywood, but apparenlty Haywood is being shopped so that does’nt add up at all. maybe utah will waive Hill trade Haywood to twolves like another poster proposed getting the 5th pick where they take Dunn / Heild /Murray / Brown etc.

The Pacers are the only ones that really get anything out of this deal that you can place a bet on being smart.

George Hill will be a very good role player for Utah. They need a veteran guard like him who has playoff experience. He’s a combo guard who shoots the corner three well, can handle the ball and defends two positions really well. He’s a great guy too, both on and off of the court.

He’ll probably re-sign with Utah too. He has a great relationship with Gordon Hayward and Quin Snyder. According to his agent, Utah was a team he’d have been interested in once he became a free-agent next summer anyway.

I think it’s an upgrade for the Pacers offensively. The Pacers wanted a faster and more aggressive playmaking point guard and they got him in Jeff Teague. The city is hyped he’s coming home. He does a lot in the city. The Pacers are clearly excited to have him and are reported to already be trying to work out an extension. I agree with Festar35 though that the Pacers need to acquire a bigger two guard who can defend and shoot, because a starting backcourt of Teague and Monta Ellis is just too small defensively.

I like the deal for the Hawks. Teague was unhappy and had damaged his trade value by announcing on Twitter he played all season with a partial patellar tendon tear. Getting the 12th pick for him is solid.
