Knicks receive- Jeremy Lin, Omer Asik, Donatas Motiejunas, Terrence Jones and 2 Future 1st Round Picks
Rockets receive- Carmelo Anthony
Knicks get a few young pieces to begin the rebuild and 2 picks to utilize
Rockets form the newest big 3 and go for it all
Knicks could then move Felton, Smith, Chandler, etc for more picks/players to start fresh
Rockets would have a nice starting 5 and could use the 2014 draft and a few free agents to add the needed depth for the team to be complete
Carmello Anthony has stated that he wishs to test the free agency after this season. Why would the Rockets trade a valuable trade chip (for another trade) in Asik, along with prospects like Motiejunas and Jones AND not 1 but 2 first round picks for what could end up being a 70 game loan?
That being said I'm not sure how keen the Knicks would be to move their star player who has pretty much single handedly kept the team competitive at times. Even if the management weren't against the idea I'm not quite sure Dolan would like his team to sink back into mediocrity with Anthony gone.
Also, trade idea, not ideas. You only proposed one trade.
I think Melo has learnt from his past trade. He could of left Denver as a FA but they did a sign and trade and Denver got quite a number of decent pieces from the trade made with the Knicks.
If Melo signs as a FA then his new team will not need to lose any players in a trade to get him.
what team would he sign with that has 2 all stars already in place
Houston is the place if he wants it all
He wants to contend for titles, playing with Harden, Howard, Parsons would give him that
obviously they would want some kind of guarantee but that team would win 50 games and at least get out the 1st round and have room to improve with the MLE, a 1st Rounder and vet minimum contracts
On top of that he could take the "pay-cut" to open up space for others and still get more than he would in New York as well as not have the media crying about every missed shot
Melo would get everything he wants, a shot to win titles, his money, less pressure and the help he needs
also, sorry for the typos, I mean typo
if Houston doesn't re-sign him they'd have cap space to build around Harden and Howard
Houston makes sense for Melo as he is getting older and knows that he needs to win a title to help cement his place in history.
I am not sure the about the dollars, maybe Houston would have to trade a player or two to get under budget. Clippers or Warriors maybe. I don't think the Bulls could afford him. Deng is a FA but they have alot of money tied up in Rose, Boozer and Noah. Popp only wants team players so i just can't imagine the spurs wanting melo.
The Rockets don't need another star to compete. We need a legit power forward and some veteran leadership. Carmelo Anthony is neither of those.
We don't need a ball-dominant team-killer. Harden, Howard, Lin, and Parsons provide enough offense for us to survive. Plus, trading away D-Mo, T-Jones, and Asik trades away any chance we'll ever have at having depth down-low.
The Rockets need to try to trade Asik for a starting PF and sign a veteran wing-defender in the off-season. The last thing we need is to trade away all of our assets for a ball-dominant scorer that plays zero defense or team basketball.
Carmelo has adapted his game to winning using all 5 men on the court
Have you watched him this year, he's was once holding the ball for 8,9,10 seconds, he's now down to 4-5 seconds and looking to attack and create
A big 3 of Harden-Anthony-Howard all guys who compliment each other is too intriguing to just pass up especially when you fill the other holes with relative ease
Melo plays team D and team ball you dont watch him I'm pretty sure or you're just going off of the old narrative about him, the man has changed his game for the better
If the Rockets want another superstar then then there is no way they get to keep Parsons as well. Lin and Asik can fetch them a good starting PF, but to get another superstar Parsons has got to be involved. I think if Houston could trade for a solid PF then they would be better off keeping their depth than trading it all for Melo.
