Sharp ShooterParticipantFirst of all, happy new year everyone!
Now back to the trade, Det sends Monroe and Stuckey for Tobias Harris and Affalo.
Det finally get some perimeter shooting and defense with Affalo. Affalo is a low matience player who is an upgrade over KCP (at this point at Sg) . However, I believe that in certain Spurts KCP and Affalo could be a dangerous defensive pair at sg and sf. Ultimately, Affalo brings sharp shooting, low maintanence, defense, and veteran leadership and playoff experience( along with josh smith). With Tobias harris he would bring three point shooting, size up front, versatility and rebounding as well. He would help at sf shooting and allow Smith to play Pf and stretch the floor for drummond. Tobias could be a steal for the pistons he remind me of danny granger/poor man carmelo anthony kind of player.
Orlando gets Monroe, another player that plays downlow with Nikola. Also, You can run your offense through him(high IQ) and allow Oladipo to play off ball, at times. Nikola and Monroe can be a good pair downlow. With Stuckey, right now you get another slasher and another nice mid range shooter. Also, Stuckey and Monroe brings them salary cap relief too at the end of the season. The Magic can dangle glen davis and Jameer Nelson for some picks or a servicable role player too.The Magic should tank and get a high pick because they aren’t going anywhere this season. So even if they get a high pick (1-6 range) they have nice building blocks. They can get either Embiid, Wiggins, Parker, Randle, Smart, Exum just to name a few who could potentially be avaiable. Plus they will have Olidipo, Vucevic, Monroe (if resigned) to build around plus cap space to sign a max. The magic could be a scary team next season or two.
It works out for both sides.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantBut if I’m Detroit I would want Harkless also.Monroe how is destined to be a soft max player this summer is to much of an asset to give up for two really good pieces, I would need either a pick or another promising young player in Nicholson or Harkless. I’m not saying Monroe deserves some sort of Carmelo package but I would want more. There is no reason to think he can’t eventually be as good as LaMarcus Aldridge.

FoxdashmanParticipantand I would be thrilled about this trade. I would also be okay with Harkless being thrown in, but would be a little more hesitant if Nicholson was the throw-in instead. Harkless is young, so this may not always be the case, but he is really frustrating. He is a non-entity on the court most of time and then he complained when his playing time was cut. He just looks like he isn’t trying or isn’t confident enough to understand when/how to assert himself. He has the physical tools to be a pretty solid player, though, and is really young.
This trade works for Orlando because it takes away our biggest "win-now" asset and gives us a really good starting frontcourt of the future. Vucevic has solid range, so spacing wouldn’t be an issue with he and Monroe and their skillsets differ, which should be them a dynamic tandem.
It works for Detroit, because they have terrible spacing and a lot of redundant skillsets. Afflalo and Harris could be key contributors to help them get into the playoffs and hopefully out of the first round. Afflalo and Harris are level-headed guys that will help out in the locker room and both are versatile players that can be contributors right away (especially Afflalo).
Overall, this is a really solid trade scenario and works well for both teams.

NeggedFolyfegood trade I would wait until next year and after the draft to see if I want to pull because this draft plays a big part of orlandos future and tobias harris was a steal, so I think they want to see what he can do in a whole season in a magic uni. He has been hurt so far this season and summer league.

Bmore_DCParticipantI dont really think Detroit gets fair value back in return. Monroe is one of the best big men in the NBA, you dont just trade him for two above average players. I agree with the guy who wanted Harkless too, honestly, id want Nicholson as well. Monroe is a beast!

HitsterParticipantDetroit would be laothe to give up Monroe especially as they don’t have a deep frontcourt behind him and Drummond but Affalo would be a perfect throw back to the blue collar Detroit Championship team and with Orlando owning various first rounders due then a deal could be worked out I feel.
Also with Monroe being a restricted FA this summer then Orlando could have to match a counter bid or even Monroe signs for a year to become an unrestricted FA in 2015.
When you see trade idea as a forum topic we usually read it with trepidation but Sharpshooter has put the basis of a fair and viable deal here.

TyroberParticipantActually been some solid trades posted as of late and this is another one. Detroit has to do something with Monroe and getting Affalo back seems like a nice fit. Monroe is gone is free agency if they don’t trade him so getting a very good starting 2 guard doesn’t seem like a bad deal.

torontoraptors10ParticipantWhy are the Pistons so interested in trading Monroe? Is it because he has the most value of all big men on your team or is it the face he isn’t that good? When I watch Pistons game, I think he is the best big man on the team. I would take him over Drummond.

Sharp ShooterParticipantRight now the Greg Monroe has the best trade value on the team. He is going to be a great center on the next team that he plays for. When you watch the pistons game, you see he’s almost dominant on offense when he wants to be. He does have a tendendacy to dispear in games though. However, what makes you want to pull your hair out as a pistons fan is watching him defensively. You feel like sometimes he doesn’t put the effort in because he has either drummond or smith to help, which ultimately result in Drummond getting in foul trouble early or taking smith out of his game. Whether its the pick n roll, helpside Defense, team defense, or post defense he hurts you. Only way he going to be effective is to have a defensive big playing next to him. In addition, to be honest I believe that that he won’t be returning as a pistons next season (he wants to go somewhere else), which is why the pistons management is willing to trade him while he’s playing with them now. Right now Monroe is the better player now, but in 2-3 years Drummond will be the better player, which why they should invest in drummond.

Bmore_DCParticipantWhy is everyone assuming Detroit can’t/won’t re-sign Monroe? Are they over the luxury tax or something? I’m not up to date with their cap situation, but from what I know, can’t Detroit pay him about 80 million more than anyone else?
If they can’t re-sign Monroe because of the Josh Smith or Brandon Jennings contracts, that GM should be fired now lol.

ahuang16ParticipantI think that Monroe is the most movable piece because this year Josh Smith has proved he is more natural at the power forward position but his contract renders him immovable. It appears, and rightly so, that Drummond is a very special player and a future top center in the league. While Monroe is a very efficient big man, his defense leaves a lot to be desired making him the movable piece. Combined with the fact that he is close to an 8 figure a year contract, he should be moved.
I don’t think cap space is an issue with the Stuckey and Villanueva expiring contracts.
